Elysion - Elysium

Elysium is part of the afterlife that the ancient greeks believed in. It was reserved for the heroes and those chosen by the Gods. They lived out a happy afterlife and were treated like kings as well.

Elysium as snazzy said was a part of the Greek afterlife, and the fact it's almost the name of another server doesn't really Change anything since both that one and the other probably took it from Greek Mythology and not each other.

Though I think that an rp server of our type could have been a bit more creative with the name.

Nevertheless, I hope 2.5 shall turn out to be an enjoyable venture.

I can let it slide providing it is a temp map after all. Regardless of inspiration/copying/influence I think two servers with a similar world name is bad for both of us. I do hope 3.0 has a something drastically different. I am curious though as to who suggested the name initially. This could be a huge coincidence or something a little more dark.

It's a metaphor for our passage into the new land. Our characters have been chosen by the Gods/Goddess/Flying Spaghetti Monster to go into the new land which is meant to be fertile and full of good stuff and all that jazz.

Nothing sinister is going on. It's a convenient name for what's happening in this event and 2.5

This isn't really a temp map, it's a transitional map. All roleplay here is going to be remembered, and all roleplay here is current roleplay, not predating anything.

We did not make up orcs, elves, dwarves nor humans, we did not make up the name Iblees as it is the devil in Arabic, we did not even make up the name Aegis or Asulon as they are both greek words. We use greek words for the names of our maps, we always have, so this is no different. This name has NO connection to the server Alec is a part of, this was chosen because I wanted a name that was a paradise, and Elysium fits that perfectly as it is greek.

Now seriously, do you want us to hold off on releasing this another week just so we can pick another name? Stop nitpicking over the little details, we have worked tirelessly to get this map out and we're not going to let a few people discontent with the name prevent us from pleasing the majority with a map they have long awaited.

I wouldn't consider it nitpicking. Neuronic brings up a very valid point, as do I. Having a server almost sharing a world name with another is bad in many ways. Neither of us are suggesting you change it though. We are in no place to do so. However, I feel there is no need to make a mountain out of a mound. It doesn't take a week to change a name. It would be no different than fixing a grammatical mistake. Nobody is doubting the work you and your colleagues have put in either. So please, do not let our discontent get in the way of the awaited event.

I feel you may have misunderstood me. We do not wish for you to change it. Nor are we in a place to demand it. It's just bad practice to have two servers with similar world names. That is the only point I wish to raise. It is not just "another location" though, it is another roleplay server that shares a common likeness. What you do about that is your business not mine. I should mention that I am the Owner of that server and I show little discontent. I am sure it is nothing but coincidence, we just wished to bring it to your attention.

Just ask America, they 'stole' lots of names from British towns such as York when they settled in the USA and just added 'new' onto them. You don't see us whining about it. If the server has a problem which I doubt they will, they have no ground to stand on. Onto another matter though, i'm so excited for 2.5 i'm just counting down the minutes. :blush:
