An Address To The People

Kolyat stands in the square a rather large crowd flocks before him as he begins to speak his words sonorous, elegant, full of confidence, worth and above all else, passion and authority.

Mali! You stand before me now as Malinor, a nation of united elves, Aheral, Ker, Ame. Though it has not escaped my ears the whisperings, shouts or the declarations, the demands for separation. ‘Why ?’ Some may ask.

’Why ?’ is simple brothers and sisters. The answer, selfishness. There are those would would fracture a nation, of brothers and sister for what ? Their own interests of power ? Or perhaps a Mali’aheral hurt your feelings ? Or a Mali’ker give you a threatening look ?  Are we not -ALL- mali ?

Look upon yourselves brothers and sisters. Would Malin be proud to see his children act as Valah, or Botuan ? Squabbling endlessly as do children over sweets. Never an end to the complaints. When one withstanding is not within arms reach, what is done ? You create one!

Kolyat Pauses for a moment looking over the crowd

We are as one Malinor! A state, who has relieved itself of the need to engage in violence. A state focus on the preservation and progression of life and the quality thereof. Where else would Mali go ? Oren ? or perhaps The War Uzg ? yes, tell the Urukan of your desires to study, to uncover history. Or perhaps you desire another place entirely ? Who would lead these places ? Who would simply follow blindly for the reasons I have already stated ? And to what end ? Our numbers are too few to separate any how have the incapacity to see this are blind, or simply fools.

Separation would make us far more vulnerable than we already are. Any who wish for separation desire the weakening, endangering, and destruction of Malinor and it’s populace -you- !, . Should you desire to murder your brothers, sisters, cousins, simply assist this movement towards separation. For separation means, above all else, destruction.

So allow me to ask you this; Who amongst you are Mali ? Who amongst you know that to succeed in such a venture, to meet your requests, to restore Malinor to that which it once was. We require  you, the populous of this princedom to do so.

For this there can be no question , no confusion, no rumors. If anyone has questions regarding to this state, it’s government, policy or intent voice them now, for all to hear.

Orym grins as Kolyat speaks, and he awaits for others to respond. He doesn't make a comment, yet.

Xexus Nightheart rolls his eyes. He begins to mutter to himself.

"It is the High Elf ruling the council, that indirectly causes this separation. Rather hypocritical if you ask me, a High Elf trying to tell us not to be separated. Bah. Khel would have been a MUCH better high prince."

Xexus sighs and walks away.

Kalenz looks to Kolyat and tilts his head, a frown slowly but surely develops. In four even strides he makes his way to Kolyat. He twitches once before he speaks.

"Unity. It is a word rife with connotations of idealism, yet in truth it is a word riddled with a path to destroy it. Each conflict had here fueled by in-cohesive ideals and beliefs may be avoided by simple separation. We need not, and can not conflict with one another if we do not see one another on a regular basis. To be separate does not mean to be weak either. Consider an ant hill, each ant is weak alone but when they come together to smite one who steps on their nest they are a mighty force indeed. It is that force which we may be, to unite in battle in times of need and return to our oeman and cihian when we are not needed.

Furthermore, this unity erodes culture of the mali'ame, mali'aheral and mali'ker. Each forcing their ideals on another. Not only does it fuel this conflict but it destroys centuries of beliefs created by ancestors. No longer do I wish Oren do breath down upon me for the actions of mali'ker who wish to resist the White Rose, no longer do I wish to hear mali'ame egalitarian prattle and I am sure when I state that neither mali'ame nor mali'ker wishes for me to detail the root of their inferiority anymore. It is unity which causes the conflicts of one race to spread the threat of doom to all the other mali.

Maybe Malin woudl not be proud of separation. But Larileh'lomanin would never approve of the blessed few letting their culture be eroded by egalitarianism. To stay is to watch each culture lose what makes them unique  for a mali'aheral to support this unity is to wish is back into the days of when we were blind to the world and before the brilliance of Haelun'or.

Iyathe'ante ito elhaelun'or. Last thought to the motherland. Let us not forget it."

Ebs, always graceful and passionate, steps foward to ask one of the first questions.

"As much as I would like to believe we are strong together, I think there is overwhelming evidence of fractures within Malinor. The stress of living on this mountain, so close to eachother, after decades apart, has caused conflict. The Mali are fatigued from seeds of living in fear for their lives, fear brought by enemies abroad. What is your plan for solving our problems, more than just the single issue of unity, but of the trials we face ahead with the other soveriegn states of Elysion, of which, it seems, we are the weakest militarily? How will it come to pass that we no longer are forced into agreements with other nations because we cannot possible defend ourselves? Granted, you have passion and zeal, but do you have the knowledge, or the experience, to forge a new, stronger, path for Malinor? I, as one Mali, feel lost in this world. Elysion is not our home, nor will it ever be. For those of us who remember the serene forests of Laurelin, we are filled with despair at where we are today. This citadel of stone and ice is not the solution, it is part of the problem. While I am dedicated to trying to make life in our current location better, I often question whether other Mali are dedicated, or only wish to make things better for themselves. So, then, my final question. You tell us to unite, and to be strong, but, your council is not united, it is fragmented, and to some, quite weak. For the Mali to be united, so to must the Council, and, I must ask, how do you intend to lead us in the coming years, decades, and centuries? The perils we face may seem insurmountable, but they are not so, and I do believe one day their will be a prosperous Malinor, freed from fear and tyranny, one that all Mali can be proud of."

Emberhard who was seated some ways away, not watching anyone who was talking, but looking away in puzzlement as he listens.

"I may have a solution."  he yells as he stands, not looking to the crowed until after he is fully upright. He glances at them for a few seconds before pressing through them. He makes his way towards Kolyat as he begins to explain, once again not exactly speaking directly to the crowed.

"Many of you may know...I was somewhat late arriving to this Island..." He reaches Kolyat before turning and offering a brief smile as he finally begins to address the people directly.

"Less of you will know that's 'cause I was on my own ship! Scouting out territories fer us...." Emberhard begins to pace

"Now...until I had to come back due to the 'good fun' with Oren...I had made landfall...Now!" He says offering a calming hand to them.

"I did not get ter take  good look around, but it was somthing." he stops pacing, once again looking at all of them.

"I have to agree that this placement is...problematic. So! Given that I came back for the Oren situation, and that is now over, I will once again make sail. In search of eh... 'bluer horizons' so to speak...." He says smiling to them.

Lucion grunts as he listens quietly to the expressions of the populace commenting on the High Prince's speech. He nods with a smile, hearing his fellow high elves debate the high elven prince--questioning, criticising, and offering alternatives. Most commendable for the higher mali.

He places his hand on his chin, he nods slowly, continuing to listen, but remaining silent. At least, for now.

Titania listens to Kolyat amongst the crowd, slowly a soft smile creeps to her lips, nodding to herself occasionally. Soon, this smile disappears upon hearing the counter arguments.  She mutters to herself softly, "Is unity that undesirable of a concept...? Has everyone lost their sense of tolerance for one another..?" She turns to Emberhard, who she stands next to. She remains silent for a few moments after he has finished his speech, leaning in to mutter something to him quietly.

Azel looks around the large group, hearing his Elders speaking out and others around him murmur and mutter their agreements or disagreements before he himself steps forward to speak. "I know I am young. I know I myself am no Prince or Princess of Malinor, but the goal of unity cannot be achieved by a High Prince shouting it to the square and then returning behind his walls. If we are to be unified, we all must understand one another's culture, even if it means moving in to the districts of the Mali'ame or Mali'ker, or even the Mali'aheral districts. It is not a matter of whether or not we want to do it, or can we do it, but we have to do it. Whether some wish to or not if we do not stand together then we will fall apart, so to say." He returns to his place in the crowd before walking off to lean against the wall alone.

Khel comes to the side of Koylat, he is much shorter than his high elven brother yet he is by far more intimidating. He stands tall with his broad shoulders giving him a tenacious appearance. His purple cloak sways with the mountain winds behind him.

Small flakes of snow begin to fall as Khel speaks

To seperate, means a fate much more than death. Unification is our only chance for survival. We will become one or die upon this frozen peak. However, we are not the ones who will make this change. We can only do so much.

Khel points out to the crowd

You're the ones who have to unify, this speech means nothing if you do not adhear to it.  Do not blame the council, for in actuality we have little control. Blame selfish pride is what is to blame.

Khel walks away going to do mysterious dark elf things

Azel steps forward once more. "You all tell us to get together but the Council is to blame and I am not afraid to say this aloud. By allowing the Mali'aheral their own walls to hide and cower behind was the first mistake! But then the Mali'ker distract received gates to set them away from their brethren! This was all allowed by the council and the council must be the ones to fix it." He pauses, taking a deep breath before continuing. "I know many of my brother and sister Mali in this square will come together whether the council asks it or not, but many others will not because of the selfishness and pride that was left to multiply and grow within our people. As I said, I may be young, but even I can see that! I have been saying this long enough, but only now do others listen. If we all had decided to do this when we first got on this gods forsaken mountain, then we would most likely not be in this position. We may actually be able to stand against those that threaten us! Stomping out all that makes us Mali for the sake of Oren and the Orcs is not how we stay strong. We show that we are weak as a people, and this is due to being three separate people within the home of one! The council must take responsibility or step down, for our High Prince has done little and even Khel, who has been praised for his past actions every Elven day has done little to nothing but allow us to be stomped on by the other inhabitants of this island! Either the council takes responsibility or give up its power to those more deserving, those who will make change!" Azel steps down, happy he got out his two sense once more.

*Iatrilemar steps forward, a gleam catching his eye as he moves his bangs across his face. A slight smirk slides across his face*

Let me say that the Mali'Aheral have the wall because the other races feel the need to snoop their noises in our research. Those walls keepsake our homes and our children. How could one ask us to remove such a needed defense?

We have unified and we socialize with the other Mali, why would they need us to lower ourselves more? Why do they ask us to squabble at their feet?

I tell you that if it were not for those walls the research being conducted within would be in the hands of unfortunately dark soul. We are the guardians of our own wisdom. Do not judge the precautions we take to protect it.

*He looks around, biting his lip, feeling very unsure of himself. Iatrilemar steps back and smiles at the council members. His shy and slightly boyish disposition might be noticed from everyone present*

Lucion gestures slightly to Iatrilimar, and shakes his head with a soft grunt.

"Actually, the walls were originally created to end the ceaseless rampaging of violent fauna upon our district."

He pulls his arms behind his back, and his typical cold gaze lands on Azel, studying him for a brief moment before continuing.

"Presumption is far simpler than gathering facts, after all. None-the-less, the wall has had the wondrous side-effect of mostly keeping out argumentative and stubborn belligerents who think themselves philosophers, and constantly "preach" their mundane and illogical moralities to us. I believe the gate was built to hinder this more. A more accurate statement, therefore, would be that we built our gate to "hide and cower behind.""

Looking to the sky, Lucion places a finger to his his in mock thought, chortling to himself as he does so.

"A most interesting use of wording you made, might I add-- "Hide and cower behind." That implies that the mali'aheral are afraid of something. Perhaps it is the numerous aggressive vagabonds that attacked valah and nearly caused our people's destruction? Perhaps it is the lich that unabashedly lives and socializes among the mali, despite it being a physical expression of corruption and evil? Perhaps it is the half-breeds that infect and sully the elven bloodlines with their taint, cursing the rare mali children to be further hindered in their long--or in some cases rather short lives.

And yet you blame us for Malinor's issues regarding division on the fact we wished to have a wall to keep out the ceaseless dangers that being a part of this dead concept brings?"
