LEFTENBÜRG IS LOOKING FOR CITIZENS.

The Leftebürgian people began with Adalbert Kö***, an extravagant trader and bürger. He led some fellow Hansetian colonists left Aegis, following it’s destruction. On a small ship called The Hildebert, the colonists suffered a long and hard journey, faced with storms that came from Aegis, storms never seen by mankind before. They ran out of fresh food in the first week, having to survive on pest-ridden hard tack. After many a day, the colonists made it to the new land. They veered off course many a mile and found themselves lost in the far north. They created a small town of Königsville.

Adalbert was a corrupt man, barely keeping watch over his town, he chose to use the bribes from the merchants for cheap trading permits on his personal mansion. One month afterwards, Adalbert died with no legitimate heir, they decided that the town council should elect a bürgermeister of Königsville. So the new bürgermeister was chosen, the head of the council. His name was Heinrich von Wüllersleben, he ruled wisely, he endorsed merchant guilds and in return they gave him guards for the town. This caused low taxes and a strong trade, the town of Königsville was prospering. Heinrich realized that the town should not be named after the corrupt man that is not Adalbert but instead name it something more creative. Next day, he passed the reform for the name of town, changing it to Leftenbürg. The vote was barely passed as the grand bürgers were mainly concerned on preserving the status quo. The town prospered much and opened its ports to the other human traders.

Heinrich eventually succumbed to the plague from some human leather merchants, unfortunately the doctors had never seen anything like this so they couldn’t stop the spread. Soon many of the inhabitants died of the horrid plague as it swept through the land. There was about 5 bürgermeisters picked in just those short years. Civil war came as the grandson of the illegitimate son of Adalbert Kö***, Gerhard von Kerpen and his small militia, declared war against Leftenbürg. Gerhard wanted to create Leftenbürg as a barony, such as his great grandfather had. Merchant guilds and their private navies and militaries had to choose sides, many choosing to side with bürgermeister to preserve their trading rights. After a long two year war, dubbed by historians as the Coin War, due to the fact that most of it was fought by mercenaries and merchant’s private militias.

After a while, the town grew and grew, a couple new bürgermeisters were chosen, some good, some bad. Leftenbürg seemed like a paradise, but this wouldn’t last. The destruction of Asulon was imminent. The town was completely caught in surprise by this and tried to flee, many were left behind. Some survivors were the remnants of the great Wüllersleben family, they fled on different merchant ships. The family was lost, many died on the way to the new land of Elysium. The ones that did survive were spread across the whole island, unable to find each other. Günther von Wüllersleben, able to survive as a petty merchant, traveling across Elysium, searching for family members. Upon the discovery of Kalos, Günther took the mighty human ship to Oren. When he had found Oren he immediately had the undying dream of recreating the Grand Stadtgemeinde of Leftenbürg.

Old Grand Stadtgemeine of Leftenbürg

Leftenbürgian Stradtrat (Means City Council)

Grand Bürgermeister: The city is headed by the Grand Bürgermeister. His job is to manage the city in all capacity. He is elected by the cabinet which also vote for different laws concerning, taxes, trade and religious affairs. The cabinet can decide to vote for something, if they do so, then the Bürgermeister has complete final say. If the bürgermeister wishes to implement a reform, then it must be passed by the cabinet. The vote can never be denied, if the cabinet does not pass it then it will lie in consideration until the Grand Bürgermeister takes it off the board of consideration.

Großkanzler: This means Grand Chancellor in Hanseatic and heads the cabinet. He is also the head of foreign diplomacy and if needed to be sent to a foreign nation then the Großkanzler will be sent as the head of the diplomatic envoy. If talks need to be discussed with the Grand Bürgermeister himself, then they must come to the city of Leftenbürg to talk to him personally to avoid any assassination attempts. Nonetheless two Grand Bürgermeisters were assassinated within the Großkanzler's presence.

Schatzmeister: This means treasurer in Hanseatic and is a senior office within the cabinet. He is the head of the Grand Bürgermeister's finances which means that this position works closely with the Grand Bürgermeister. The holder of this position would also be the head of tax collection throughout the city. If one fails to pay their taxes then they are evicted from their land. Many a time, some corrupt Grand Bürgermeisters used nepotism as a way of getting a Schatzmeister as the Schatzmeister works very closely with the Grand Bürgermeister. Once in the history of this position, it was held in commission to avoid corruption but soon this was abolished voted to be abolished by a Hansetian Grand Bürgermeister in favor that there should be one man to hold the entire office.

Großadmiral: This means Grand Admiral in Leftenbürgian. This is the 4th most senior position in the cabinet. This position has a considerable amount of prestige as it is nearly the head of defense for the entire city. This position is tasked with the city's navy which is the main blockade stopping it from an amphibious assault should an invasion occur. The navy also led merchant ships safely into the port, they also kept the surrounding seas free from pirates.

Wachtmeister: This means Head of the Watch in Hanseatic and is the 5th most and 1st least senior position within the cabinet. The holder of this position's duty is to keep crime out of the alleyways of Leftenbürg. This position did not exist until the 4th Grand Bürgermeister, Karl von Orslen who needed someone to manage the military and town watch. As the Leftenbürg never attacked any nations in favor of a peaceful approach, the watch became Leftenbürg's military, majority of the watch are bürgers that must serve for a period of time.

Architecture of Leftenbürg

The architecture of Leftenbürg consists of the extravagance of the Orenian architects but with the large amounts of stone used in Hansetian building, creating a unique style of looming stone cathedrals and large palaces belonging to the Stadtrat members. The Leftenbürg Dom was the most famous of these Cathedrals and loomed far over all beings. These were works of stone, crafted by a million men. The Leftenbürg Dom was the main grounds of the celebration of Yule.

Celebrations of Leftenbürg

The celebration of Yule has shrouded beginnings, but the Leftenburgian people celebrate this yearly. This occurs in the middle of winter when old man Jólnir would bring food to all in the darkest days of winter, as the Leftenbürgian people went through harsh winters, they needed a time of joy. After a long day of prayer and choir, the Leftenbürgian people would head to their homes to have a large feast in celebration.

Also another celebration included the Leftenbürgian Neujahr. It represents the bloom of the new year, as the flowers on the borders of the city begin to bloom. It is a wonderful time, celebrated with many white flowers and incredible feats, such as swallowing fire, and taming bats. There were also circuses with wolves able to jump through burning rings. It was always a merry time of year for the people of Leftenbürg. The Grand Bürgermeister planned the ceremony himself, as tradition.
