The North Beckons

Deafening, screeching roars can be heard from the skies. A dark, massive shadow passes over the lands. The winged beasts have awakened...

An old man begins to speak.

"In the distant past, drakes have been known to instill fear into mortal beings. Past events have revealed that the malevolent, corrupted drake is a well-known foe to all living things. A monstrosity consumed by hatred, it exists solely to bring turmoil to all that breath. While this age-old antagonist ravaged our lands on past inhabited landmasses, a new foe has awakened. The dragon, or lesser dragon if you prefer, has risen from the depths of its icy caverns. These creatures have inhabited this land long before we arrived on Anthos. For those uninformed, the dragon is a natural predator -- a carnivore. A drake, on the other hand, is a mockery to nature itself. It is a twisted, defiled form of the dragon brought into existence through the corruption of a daemon. While some believe that a dragon is weaker than a drake, they are wrong. As a result of the corruption, a drake looses much of its physical strength and hardiness, but bears breath of defilement much fouler than that of a dragon. A drake's flame breath possesses dark purple tendrils of flame that rot away one's skin and sanity within mere moments, while a dragon's breath of fire is searing hot, and will burn the skin from your bones without hesitation.

You may ask "how do I know this?" A great being has given me true vision -- genuine perception. I was once but a dull man, but now I am abundant with knowledge. While a common halfling may simply watch the daily labor of a small village, a giant can observe the land from a bird's-eye view. Mere man is limited in his understanding, but a god bears infinite knowledge. This is the change that has transpired in my mentality."

The old man's ramblings are cut short, as his attention is turned to The North.

"I must leave. But before I go, I was instructed by the Great Being to read this scroll before all that would dare listen."

He unravels the roll of writing, clearing his throat before proceeding with the announcement.

The old man's gaze fades off into the distance.

"Strange, and here I thought he was referring to dragons..."

Epic! This sounds really interesting.... Though, a great wall of ice? Really? Keeping it original here I guess...

Jonathan Black listens as the man gives his monologue, genuinely interested.

The North... He had always had a dread about the North. Whether it was the mysteriously impenetrable ice wall, or perhaps the fact that he could see skulls and an abandoned city beyond it when he took the time to sail around it, he always knew there was something terribly wrong about that place. Evil had a tendency to hide in the most remote corners of the known world, and this area was no exception, it seemed. He had once told a friend that the ice wall was not to keep anything out in particular; it was to keep something in. It appeared that he was right after all.

But then he smiled. Whatever -was- truly in the North, it had no idea what was coming.

It would find out soon enough.

((I can't wait. Here we go.))

Turning to look to the north, Silent grasps the hilt of his sword

"So this land too has a dark force that we must fight... And as the scroll reads, if we do not stand together, we have no hope of survival.

It is times like this that remind me of Aegis, and our battles with the Undead... Once again the races must stand together and fight as one."

Turns to the group of people gathered around the old man, and then speaks with a strong voice, "We should send a group of our most skilled warriors up to this 'Wall of Ice' and keep a watchfull eye, as to give warning when the darkness breaks through, and hold them at bay for a short time."

Raising his sword, Silent shouts into the crowd, "We will not lose our new homes and lives so quickly, and never without a fight! So who will do this!?"

Jonathan rolls his eyes and sighs. "There's already a group doing that which will do it very well; calm yourself." He says rather flatly.

((Well I had no idea. Maybe if I had the time to walk all the way up north to that area?))

((It's an IC response to an IC question is all. North is sealed up totally at the moment, but there's a group pretty close to it.))

Polgrath stirs in his bed, dreams of cold and darkness troubling him into wakefulness. Long have we summered in peace, but now I fear... winter is coming.

Azel Bloodseeker stands off to the side, leaning against a tree with crossed arms, his ears cocked to the two speaking. He notes the wall, which he himself already explored and listens intently to the man speaking of the force in the north. His scouting in the Teutonic Orders base is fresh in his mind, and it takes all he has not to fall down and laugh at such a weak claim. His lavenders eyes study each and every face nearby, careful of all around him.

"It seems the Ranger travels again..."

Azel steps up to the group, looking to the two speaking.

"Making obvious claims and speaking against one another won't change a thing. With such a strong enemy on the wake, our people must rally together as stated, which is easier said than done. I myself will soon be heading up to the North to learn of this threat. Until then, I hope all here are ready and available to return to our people and speak of this new threat."

The man looks up at the elf and laughs a bit. "Come back when your nation is capable of assembling an army. Stay in your forest and let Oren handle this... No offense, but I think your intervention would only make the situation worse."

Campari watches the man and his speech, and dread fills him. All these years of peace... He had hoped for something more in life, before some impending doom came to destroy it all. If the races remained firm in their division, then all would be lost. A selfish thought considering his young age came to him, and the dread was replaced with guilt. He, as an individual, mattered little against the Northern foes. At the moment, Campari decided, he would help in whatever way he could against the North. He would die, if he must, if only to save his friends and allies.

Now is the time to be brave.
