[Disclaimer: The Adunia are a human subrace with part wood elven blood, first formed by Axlrose4078 and myself in late January 2012. Though the raw idea of the Adunia was created by Axlrose, all of the lore was created and written by myself. The exception to this is the religion lore, which is entirely by IlumTarus]

History

[For reference: Elendil Family Tree, Old Adunian Thread]

The Mixing of Blood

In the years when Aegis was still young and it’s races newly born, two tribes arose in the Northern mountains of the continent. The first tribe was comprised completely of humans and led by a man named Harren, the son of Horen himself. The second tribe were wood elves, led by a dark haired woman named Sarai whose roots were never unveiled. Inevitably, the two tribes clashed. A short but bloody war began between the groups, and soon the mountains were littered in bodies. Not wanting to lose any more of their people, Harren and Sarai met and organized what would now be called a treaty between the two tribes, but Harren wanted more than simply peace. As part of the agreement, Sarai was forced to marry Harren and hence join their tribes. Though Sarai despised Harren at first, she eventually grew to love him and respect him as her husband. The people saw the close bond the pair had formed, and soon began to mix blood themselves. The mixed blood of these early humans and elves created a legacy that would continue on for many ages, and hence created the Adunian race.

The Harrenite Age - The First Era

Harrenites was the name given to the mixed tribe of elves, humans and their Adunian descendants. They traveled the mountainous territory that both tribes had previously contested for, crushing other groups with an iron fist and making it known that they ruled the area. The tribe dwelled in small stone huts and makeshift hide tents. They wore fur garments to keep themselves warm in the harsh environment, but had not discovered any other type of clothing. The only weapons and tools they had were made of stone, bone, and wood. There was little organisation amongst the tribe, the only established posts being the Chieftain and the Elders of other families whom he looked to for advice. Harren ruled for most of this era, but when he passed away his son Baren took the reins and continued his father’s legacy.

The Idunian Age - The Second Era

When Baren’s life was taken in a battle with another tribe, his son Olrandir took his father’s post as Chieftain. Whilst Baren was set on continuing his father’s way of life, Olrandir wanted to find out what the world had to offer. He led his tribe, whose numbers had now risen beyond anything that should be called a tribe, and to the Eastern coast of Northern Aegis. There he set his tribe about building a city of stone, and though it took half his lifetime to do, it was complete in time for him to rule it. Olrandir named his city Idunia and had his people settle within it. Whilst he had been building the city, advancements had been made in both clothing and weaponry, the Adunians now having the knowledge to sufficiently use iron and wear woven cloth materials. A most prominent fashion of the time was kilt. Olrandir invited pure-blooded humans of other tribes to come dwell in his city, and soon he became known as the King of Idunia. The original families of his father’s Harrenite tribe became known as Clans, lead by a single Chieftain, and were all given high positions within the city. Olrandir also made the first steps towards having a sustainable system of society, introducing a Council of Thanes, system of Earls and writing an official set of laws for the city. Another of King Olrandir’s achievements was implementing an official Clan Militia military system for times of war and conflict. King Olrandir had made many advancements in his long life, and made sure he left behind a grand legacy when he passed away. Sadly, Olrandir’s son Arendil could not live up to his father’s expectations. Arendil’s rein did much to empower the original clans whilst oppressing the pure-blooded humans of the city. An uprising came about in the later half of his life, and a man named Owen Godwinson took the throne after slaying Arendil, banishing the Adunians from Idunia. A small group of Adunians who had turned on Arendil were allowed to stay in the city, these would later become known as the Rhodirs.

(Notes on hierarchy: The King of Idunia was the paramount figure in the Idunian Age. He was advised by his Council of Thanes, who were given positions such as High Steward, High Treasurer and High Marshal. The Council of Thanes was headed by a High Thane, who was the official second-in-command of the Adunia. The Earls were those who the King granted land for farms or villages outside to city)

The First Ildonian Age - The Third Era

After leaving Idunia, the Adunian Clans were lead by Arendil’s heir, Elendil, to the far North of the Aegisian continent. There, the people spent several months building wooden boats from trees they harvested in the forest. Eventually, the Adunians had three ships which they hastily boarded and set sail to the North. After weeks of sailing, land was spotted in the distance. Before them the Adunians found a large land mass which Elendil would name the Adunian Isle. The people left their boats and headed inland. For several days they trekked across a many miles of wide, open plains, scattered with the occasional hill, mountain or clump of trees. After just over a week the Adunian people came to a large forest that took up the entire Northern third of the isle. Elendil took his people and ventured into it until they came to a hilly region of the forest. From there, Elendil decides that this would be the location of the new Adunian settlement, and hence the clansmen began to construct the legendary city of Ildon. It took less time to build Ildon than it had for it’s predecessor Idunia, as Ildon’s architecture consisted almost entirely of wood which was easily obtained from the surrounding forest. Ildon was also originally built with intentions of housing less people than Idunia had. The town, which would grew into a city as the population rose, was situated in a cleared area of the forest around a large hill. Atop said hill sat a large, wooden and stone keep that doubled as the Elendil Clan Hall and Adunian palace. Around the keep the town was built, shops, homes, farmland and everything else that the Adunians would need. The walls were made of wood and regularly expanded as more room for the Adunian people was needed. Elendil claimed the the entire Adunian Isle for his people, naming the land the Province of Al’Ildic. Many changes came about in the First Ildonian Age, Clan Chieftains became Clan Elders, the Adunian King became the Adunian Lord, and the old military system of having clan militia was replaced with the Adunian Rangers. The Adunian Rangers were founded by Elendil’s eldest son Cirimas and resided in a fort built into the base of the mountain upon which the Adunian Palace stood. This keep was called Fort Arendor and would house the Adunian military for many years to come. Other changes included advancements in clothing, and the newfound knowledge of forging with steel. The Adunians stopped wearing the ancient furs, kilts, and mangled pieces of iron armour that their kin of ages past used and began to wear coats, cloaks, tabards, gowns, and various other items of clothing that are still used throughout the land today. With their knowledge of steel, the Adunians also came to be able to forge better weapons and armour, though unlike their ancestors from the Idunian and Harrenite ages the Adunians of the First Ildonian Age had grown accustomed to not wearing armour. The Adunians preferred to be quick on their feet, and had hence stopped using the weapons of their ancestors such as claymores, battle axes and mace, and so replaced them with longswords, broad swords, short swords, daggers and longbows. As the population of the Adunia grew in the Province of Al’Ildic, the Adunian Lords began to select new Earls and grant land to certain clans. The poorest of clans moved to the coast of the Adunian Isle to live in their own settlements, the richer ones were given an Earldom out in the forest or in the plains beyond, whilst the wealthiest of the clans stayed in the city and had members on the Council of Thanes. The Lords of the Third Era were Elendil, Braen, Dranan and Rymeul.

The Second Ildonian Age - The Fourth Era

The Third Era began with Adunian Lord Rymeul Elendil leading a party of men to the Southern coast of the Adunian Isle. Upon reaching the sea they had crossed from Aegis (Which had been named the Adunian Sea by Braen) the men borrowed boats from the fishing settlement of Clan Nalyn and crossed the sea back to Aegis. There they discovered a new nation had arisen since their departure, the grand Kingdom of Oren. Rymeul went to the King of Oren and organised for trade between their nations, though at the time the Adunians still spoke the forgotten tongue instead of the common one. This language barriers made it take several days for both parties to come up with terms they could both agree on and understand. Part of the agreement was for the King of Oren to supply Rymeul with several men to return to the Adunian Isle for several years, in order to teach the Adunian to speak common for trade. The King kept to his word on this and sent men back across the Adunian Sea with Rymeul’s party, and within the five years in which the men stayed most of the Adunians could speak fluent common. Soon enough, trade flourished between Oren and Al’Ildic due to their ability to now communicate with each other. Over the years, people slowly began to stop speaking the forgotten tongue, and soon enough it was unused throughout the Adunian Isle. Time passed and those who had used the forgotten tongue passed with it. Soon enough, no one who had spoken it still lived, and as no one had ever bothered to write it down, it earned itself the title ‘The Forgotten Tongue’. One of the Fourth Era’s most significant changes was to do with it’s military. As the population of Al’Ildic grew the Adunian Rangers became too small a force to keep the entire Adunian Isle in order. Lord Bethrol made the decision to replace the rangers with the Adunian Regiment, a fully functioning army with hundreds and hundreds of men ready to serve their people. Although, after Bethrol died and his son Rydel took the crown, the Great War of Al’Ildic began. The war raged on for several long years between the Adunian Regiment and Icarien Delmar’s rebels. Icarien’s war tactics were vicious as he held no regard for the lives of the people. By the end of the war, half the population of the Adunian Isle had been wiped out. The war was ended when Thorenir Elendil the First reformed the Adunian Rangers as the Adunian Regiment’s elite, special forces squad. Thorenir’s squad, which included his nephew Halboron Elendil, raided Icarien’s base of operations and assassinated him. From there, Rydel decided that with the once again diminished population the Regiment was no longer needed, re-implementing the Rangers with his brother Thorenir at their helm. Several decades later, Rydel’s heir Aren was in the third year of his compulsory four in the Adunian Rangers so that he could assume his father’s position as the Adunian Lord. Aren’s older brother Halboron, the Adunian Ranger Captain of the time, sent Aren and a small scouting party to the Southern coast of the Adunian Isle, as he had failed to hear news from certain settlements in almost a week. Aren’s scouting party discovered that a band of orcish raiders had sailed up from the continent and raided three small settlements. After a day of tracking, the rangers eventually caught up with the orcs and ambushed them. During the fighting, Aren came face-to-face with the leader of the band and ended up having his head caved in by the beast’s foot. Though the rest of the scouting party were able to overcome the orcs, the young Adunian heir was still lost. The position of heir fell to Aren’s infant son Artorus, meaning that the aged Lord Rydel had to cling to his position as Lord of the Adunia for another two decades. But before this time was over, the Undead invasion of Aegis began. The Undead began their invasion from the North, slowly making their way South and taking each and every last settlement with them. As the Province of Al’Idic was even further North than any other known settlement, it was the very first to be hit. The Undead horde swept through the province with haste, and within a day of their arrival had arrived at Ildon. Halboron Elendil led the Adunian rangers in the defense of Ildon, but was knocked unconscious during the battle. The men were scattered without his leadership, and when Halboron awoke the battle was lost and Ildon devoured by flames. The Undead necromancers had left the city, but their minions were still scattered throughout. Halboron fought his way back into the city, finding Artorus crying by his mother’s body. Halboron bundled his young nephew into his arms and cut down wave upon wave of darkened souls on his way out of the city. Once out, Halboron and Artorus trekked across the Adunian Isle for several days until they reached the Southern coast. There the pair found the remnants of the Viathas clan, trying to escape aboard their boat. They clansmen happily took Artorus with them to the Aegis mainland whilst Halboron made his way back North to Ildon. In Ildon Halboron recovered as many books and artifacts as he could, including the shards of the sword Durendal (which was shattered in Aren’s battle with the orc war-chief) and the Circlet of Harren, which he was forced to retrieve from the charred remains of his own father’s head. From there, Halboron travelled to Aegis himself aboard a rowboat stocked with supplies. The fourth era was over and the Adunians would remain spread across the land for many years to come. The Lords of the Second Ildonian Age were Rymeul, Anmas, Bethrol and Rydel. The only notable position added to Adunian Society in this age was the position of Lore Keeper. This position was given to Thorenir Elendil the First.

The New Ildonian Age - The Fifth Era

Many decades later in the land of Asulon, Artorus Elendil had grown up and was serving as an esteemed military officer for the army of Renatus. One day he was walking through the city of Arethor when he saw something he thought he would never see again; his uncle Halboron. Halboron had been like a father to Artorus after the death of Aren, and the young man rushed to greet his uncle with open arms. Over the following decades, Halboron worked with Artorus to bring glory back to the Adunian race. After discovering relations to the Godfrey Horen, the King of Renatus, the Elendils were granted nobility within the kingdom. Soon after, Artorus’s uncle on his mother’s side Zibaen Vivyaen granted him his own county within the duchy of Westfall. The county was named after the original Adunian city, Ildon, as was the town within it. After some number of years, Zibaen passed away, leaving Westfall to House Elendil. The Adunian people lived in Westfall for two generations, over which an official society was never officially formed. They took influences from both the First and Second Ildonian Ages, the Idunian Age, the from the culture of Oren. The military spanned from Elendil Bannermen to reformed Adunian Rangers, but a successful, continuous one was never started. Artorus Elendil was the only Lord of the New Ildonian Age.

The Troubled Age - The Sixth Era

Nearing the end of Artorus Elendil’s life, he was approached by two close allies, Eze’kiel Tarus and Jon Norsem. Both of these men hungered for power, and after seeing the amount of clans Artorus had sworn to him, they decided to use the Adunian Lord to gain the power they sought. Norsem and Tarus tricked Artorus into rebelling against the throne, bringing dishonour to the Elendil name and leading to the deaths of many Adunian warriors. Artorus Elendil was slain in battle whilst both Norsem and Tarus were captured by Oren’s forces. The rebellion was swiftly crushed and both of the surviving rebel leaders executed. With Artorus Elendil dead and his heir Harrion missing, Artorus’s eldest son Torrhen took the crown. Torrhen Elendil was quite literally the worst leader the Adunia had ever had. After his father was killed after being tricked into rebellion, the Emperor did everything he could to comfort Torrhen, though the boy did not see as most men do. He was power vicious and power hungry, and led several more rebellions against Oren’s throne, obviously not learning from the mistakes of Tarus, Norsem and his father. Each and every time, Godfrey was lenient and allowed Torrhen back on strict terms, but each and every time Torrhen betrayed the Emperor’s trust. After several too many rebellions, Godfrey grew impatient of the Adunia and tired of Torrhen’s foolish actions. He refused all appeals Torrhen made to return to the Empire and reclaim his titles, giving the position of Adunian Lord to Torrhen’s uncle Thorenir II, and his position as a Duke to his brother Harrion. Thorenir did his best to convince the Adunian clans to return to Oren and serve under him instead of Torrhen, but the Adunians were loyal people, and although they didn't necessarily believe what Torrhen was doing was right, they followed him regardless. Thorenir wanted to end Torrhen’s rebellion before any more damage could be done to the Adunian race, and so began to help the Imperial forces in hunting him down. Torrhen felt betrayed by his uncle, and so sent out men to kill him. The Adunian fort was attacked by the forces of Clan Armas, and many of Lord Thorenir’s men were killed. Harrion, who had ceased to enter the conflict up to this point, decided he had seen enough of the fighting and had Thorenir surrender the position of Adunian Lord to himself. Thorenir had decided his efforts to regroup the Adunia under himself were futile after they had attacked his fort, and willingly handed over the throne. Thorenir was outcasted by the Adunia and forced to leave Oren for a number of years. In the meantime Harrion spent several months trying to regroup the Adunia, but his attempts were also proved futile after the clans refused to follow him. Harrion disappeared as Thorenir did and the Adunia were left to crumble away. In the island region of Kalos during the migration from Asulon to Anthos, a young man named Anarion tried to take control of the Adunia. He was able to get most of the clans to follow him, but didn't have much to offer in return. Anarion claimed to be the son of Thorenir Elendil the Second, but as Thorenir had never married this would make him a bastard and unfit to rule. Anarion also had absolutely no proof that he was Thorenir’s son, and so the Adunians eventually refused to believe him. From there the Adunians were spread out, crumbling slowly until they were thought to be extinct. Upon arriving in Anthos, no Lord or Clan Leader was present, and became common knowledge the Adunia were all but extinct. Adunian society in the Troubled Age took influences from all other Eras. The Lords of this era were Torrhen, Thorenir II, Harrion and unofficially Anarion.

Present Day

The history of the Seventh Era is still in the making and is yet to be written.

Adunian Traditions

-It is tradition amongst the Adunia for the youngest son of a man to be the heir to his land and titles, unlike in other societies where the eldest son does.

-It is tradition for the oldest member of a clan to serve as it’s leader [Elder/Chief] unless he decides to hand it down to the second eldest, or has sufficient reason to be unable to lead.

-It is tradition for the Adunian Lord to wear the Circlet of Harren, a small crown that Horen himself had forged for his son and is passed down to this day.

-It is tradition for the Adunian Lord to be in possesion of the Elendil family broadsword, Durendal, which was forged by an early Ildon smith in the Third Era. This tradition changes if the Lord’s heir is over the age of seventeen, in which case the blade is to be in his possession.

-Adunian boys are considered men once they reach the age of seventeen, just as girls are considered women at the same age.

Adunian Society

The Old Hierarchy

-Adunian Lord-

The Adunian Lord is the ruler of Adunian society. Once known as the Adunian King, he has the final say in all matters. The Adunian Lord may only be male.

-High Thane-

The High Thane is the Adunian Lord’s right hand man. He is second incharge of all things Adunian, and heads the Council of Thanes.

-High Marshal = High Steward = High Treasurer = Archmaster = Lore Keeper-

The High Marshal, High Steward, High Treasurer, Archmaster and Lore Keeper make up the Adunian Council of Thanes. Each Thane is in charge of their own relative aspect of Adunian society.

-Ildician Order (Military)-

The Ildician Order are the specialist forces of the Adunian Lord and Council of Thanes. They protect the Council of Thanes and Adunian Lord, as well prevent treachery and rebellion from within Adunian society.

-Adunians Earls-

Adunian Earls are the landholders in Adunian society. The Adunian Lord grants these men land within his own to start settlements and for other uses.

-Adunian Clan Chiefs/Elders-

An Adunian Elder or Chief, depending on which era a clan takes its influence from, is the sole leader of an Adunian clan. All decisions to do with his clan are made by him. A clan’s Chief or Elder is not necessarily the person who owns the clan’s land. A woman can only be a clan’s Chief or Elder in times of need when no one else can do the job.

-Adunian Rangers (Military)-

The Adunian Rangers are the official military of the Adunia and hold the power to enforce the law throughout Adunian lands.

-Adunian Clansmen/women-

The Adunian clansmen and clanswomen are simply the members of Adunian clans.  They are looked upon as being above the clanless, and are the unofficial nobles of the Adunia.

-Clanless Adunians-

Clanless Adunians are looked upon as being at the bottom of society. Though the Adunians have a sense of pride in who they are and usually respect each other, the clanless are still looked down upon by others.

Old Adunian Military

MTJ3OGT.png

Formation:

During the First Ildonian Age, Lord Braen Elendil came to the decision that the people of the Adunia needed a new military system, once that had to be effective and structured. Braen called upon his older brother Cirimas, and asked him to do exactly this. Cirimas gathered several of his most trusted Adunian warriors, and whilst most of their identities have been lost to ages, it is known that one man was Ahrium Owl another was a member of the Loyola Clan. The men created a tradition that would last throughout the Adunia for ages to come; the Adunian Rangers. The Adunian Rangers spent centuries guarding the Province of Al’Ildic, serving under many different Ranger Captains and Adunian Lords. They served as the most elite Adunian warriors in the Great War, and continued to fight for their people until Ildon fell in the Undead Siege. The Adunian Rangers lived in Fort Arendor, which was a castle built into the base of the hill upon which the Adunian Palace stood.  The sigil of the Adunian Rangers is a grey cloak with two swords crossed over it. The Adunian Rangers are also known as the Rangers of Al'Ildic, the province of which they first guarded.

Ranks:

-Ranger Captain-

The Ranger Captain is the supreme commander of the Rangers. He answers to no one other than the High Marshal, Council of Thanes and Adunian Lord. His orders are to be followed without fault.

-Ranger Veteran-

Ranger Veterans are retired members of the Order. They no longer do any tasks directly for the Adunian Rangers, but they stay true to Ranger values and keep their loyalty to the Order. The Ranger Veteran title is only given to those who have made a substancial commitment to the Order and do not stray away after retirement.

-First Ranger-

The First Ranger is the Ranger Captain's right-hand-man. When the Ranger Captain is not present, the First Ranger will take control of the Order. The First Ranger usually oversees and participates in the most important tasks the Rangers are given.

-Ranger Drillmaster-

The Ranger Drillmasters are the trainers of the  less experienced Rangers. Each Drillmaster trains the Initiates and Conscripts in their own specific field. The maximum amount of Drillmasters allowed is four.

-Ranger Elite-

The Ranger Elites are the most experienced warriors in the Order. They are sent on the Order's most important assignments and inspire the younger members to one day be as they are.

-Ranger-

The Ranger is the base rank of the Adunian Rangers. They are highly trained and experienced in the ways of a Ranger and are the lowest rank to posses full-fledged membership.

-Ranger Initiate-

The Ranger Initiates are the more advanced trainees of the Order. They are decent warriors but not yet as elite as a proper Ranger should be. They are trained by the Drillmasters just as the Conscripts are, though their training is more advanced and focuses in different areas.

-Ranger Conscript-

The Conscripts are the lowest rank of the Adunian Raners. They usual posses no former experience, and if they do it is extremely limited. They are trained by the Ranger Drillmasters on a daily basis.

Uniform:

Whilst the Adunian Rangers had no official uniform, they all stuck to a certain dress code. An Adunian Ranger would wear a thick coat, leather gloves, leather boots, a belt and underclothes of their choice. Whilst those were the essentials, a sash, a cloak, shoulder guards and wrist guards were also common.

"Grim Garbed soldiers marching off too war,
grim garbed soldiers fighting evermore,
Pledged until death they do withstand great pain,
Forever in service to our leader and his Thanes"
-A Poem sung by Adunian women in referrence to the grey shirts of the Ildician Order.

Formation:

The Ildician Order was formed shortly after the Great War. Lord Rydel had lost faith in his people after the betrayal of his High Thane Icarian Delmar and so rounded up a selection of surviving Adunian Regiment officers who had thought their skill-set unfit for the Rangers. Rydel named these men the Ildician Order. The Order’s purpose was the act as the bodyguards of the Adunian Lord and his Council of Thanes. They also had the job of rooting out traitors and rebels within Adunian society to prevent another event like the Great War. The Order’s sigil is a grey bear and they are often called the ‘Grey shirts’ by members of Adunian society.

Purpose and Duties:

The purpose of the Ildician Order is to protect the Adunian Lord, members of Clan Elendil and the Adunian Council of Thanes. They accompany the Adunians holding these positions at all times unless ordered against it, seek out those who would harm the holders of these positions, eliminate any threats to the Adunians in these positions, prevent rebellions and seek out those who would cause them. The Ildician Order give their full loyalty to the Adunian Lord, members of Clan Elendil and the Council of Thanes.

Ranks:

Orhdú - Commander

The man who holds this position must have the utmost loyalty to the council of Thanes and the Adunian Lord. The Orhdú man must be able to lead men and must have exceptional experience in warfare as well as skill in arms. He is looked on with respect by the Council of Thanes and has pledged his life in the service of the Adunians. None within the order may question his leadership, this office is for life unless said Ordhu is outvoted by the Council of Thanes.

Aerd - Lieutenant

This position is second in command of the Order. Once again experience in warfare as well as skill in arms is required of this position. Second in rank only to the Orhdú, the Aerd’s word is respected and valued by all other members of the Order. Once again, loyalty and devotion must be present in any Aerd of the Ildician Order.

Laochru - Elite

The base rank of the Ildician Order. Holders of this rank are extremely skilled in arms and warfare, eloquence of speech is also common but not entirely necessary. Holders of this rank have passed the tests to be permitted into the ranks of the Ildician Order, as such their military experience grants them the right of a respected opinion when discussing military topics. Loyalty to the Council of Thanes, Clan Elendil and Adunian Lord is required and expected.

Fheum- Squire/Apprentice
The word Fheuam literally translates into "useless", and although the holders of this rank are in no way useless they are not treated as Grey Shirts or brethren of the cloth until they pass their knightly trials to advance to the Laochru rank and bear the title "Sir" a knight of the Ildician Order. They are not subject to our ways but are encouraged to participate, all must start as a Grey Shirt Fheum until they pass the knightly trials. To become a Grey Shirt Fheum one MUST find a master to serve for, if there are no Ildician Knights taking on squires then one must wait before joining.

(Specialised Rank) Aermid - Medic

This rank must have skill in arms but also skill in the field of medicine, sometimes acting as the Adunian Lord's/Council of Thanes'/House Elendil's personal physician. This rank is equal to that of a Laochru when in the field but is far higher than even the Orhdú when on the talk of medical subjects. This set rank is extremely respected by all members of the Ildician order as one must have extensive healing knowledge to it.

(Specialised Rank) Maighstir- Master at arms
This knight is the "teacher" in hand to hand combat for the Ildician Grey Shirts, although this knight only bears the rank of Laochru he is treated with great respect and is highly valued for his military experience and combat skill. This rank will sit on the panel of judging when a Fheum attempts to advance to the rank of knight.

Order Values:

-Loyalty is the key to success. Through patience and loyalty the Ildician Order will win back the trust broken by the traitors of our kind. Loyalty to the Order and the Adunian leaders above is expected.

-Devotion to the cause is first and foremost. Marriage is acceptable but any physical intercourse between unwed beings is punishable by expulsion from the order. We must not allow weaknesses of the flesh to interfere with our duties.

Oath of the Ildician Order:

I, [name], do solemnly swear to serve the Ildician Order until death or release from the binds of this vow. I shall use my skill to protect the grand leaders of the Adunia and in turn the people they lead, I shall bring honour to my race and my Order, and I shall prove myself worthy to hold a position among it. If I am to forsake this oath, may my head be swept from my body and my remains left to rot, never to join my forefathers in the lands beyond. I swear this oath upon my life and all that I hold dear, before the leaders of our race and the [god/gods] above.

Order Garb:

The order wears a simple wool spun grey tabard depicting a roaring bear, the sigil of the Ildician Order. We do not wear bright colours or expensive materials. We are an order of humility, wearing simple tabards with light chainmail is enough for us.

The Rhodirs [OOC]

Rhodir History

When Owyn Godwinson came to power by murdering King Arendil and banishing his son Elendil and the rest of the Adunian race, some Adunians were allowed to stay. A small percentage of the Adunian population had been loyal to Owyn, and had even assisted in his uprising. The ture Adunians who followed Elendil referred to these people as "Rhodi" meaning traitors in the ancient Adunian tongue. Once the Adunians had been driven out to the North of Aegis, Owyn honoured the Rhodi with knighthoods and high ranking positions in his military, though this would be short lived. After several years, Owyn began losing trust in the Rhodi; they were vicious, brutal people who thought themselves better than the other citizens of Idunia due to their Adunian blood, and would often punish criminals more than their crime was worth. Owyn came to the decision that he had to rid Idunia of the Rhodi for the sake of his people, his family, and his rule. The Rhodi had betrayed the Adunians; their own family, friends and race, what was to stop them from betraying Owyn as well? The new king made the final decision to strip the Rhodi of their ranks and titles and banish them. Furious with Owyns decision, the Rhodi took to arms and raided the Idunia palace, murdering many guards and members of the Godwinson family before looting the armoury of all its best weapons and armour.

After this the Rhodi felt the debt was paid and left Idunia without causing any more harm. Knowing that they couldn't head north after what they’d done to their Adunian brothers, the Rhodi headed south. After three months of traveling on horseback, the Rhodi came to clearing amidst a forest blanketed in snow. One of the most dominant members of the group, Garet Losmire, announced that they would need to establish who was in charge before they traveled any further, knowing that this was the beginning of a new life for them all. The other Rhodi agreed, setting up a small camp in the clearing for the members who were unable to fight before arming themselves and heading into the woods. There they fought each other for the position of the group’s leader, but when the first had passed the warriors were spread out across the woodland. Hence, it became not only a competition of fighting skills but survival skills too. The Rhodi fought, hid, ran, ambushed each other for many days, in some cases even killing each other for the position they so desperately sought. In the end, only two who remained uninjured and alive; Uxhal Urendir and Garet Losmire. Uxhal stood in the open for two days, waiting for Gareth to show himself so they could have their final duel. When Gareth finally emerged from the trees, Uxhal took his steel bardiche and put a deep gouge into Gareth's chest, killing him almost instantly. Uxhal proceeded to proclaim himself the leader of the Rhodi. Urendir named their group the Rhodirs, taking the shameful name their Adunian kinsmen had given them with pride. From there, Uxhal proclaimed any worthy fighter who hadn't been killed in the forest a Rhodir Keirach, and himself the Grand Rhodir Merach. The Rhodirs traveled the outskirts of Southern Aegis for centuries, living nomadically as an unstoppable force of raiders and pillagers. In the event that a group of people or a settlement could not be defeated, the Rhodir would induct said group into their own to make both groups larger and stronger. All the worthy warriors in the Rhodir tribe were honoured as a Keirach by the Merach after several years as a Keir. The Rhodir Merach was always the eldest son of the previous one, and also always took the name of their father; Uxhal Urendir.

In the reign of Uxhal Urendir the Eleventh, word reached the Rhodir of a powerful invading force coming from the North known as the 'Undead'. Hungry for a challenge, Uxhal ordered his tribe to follow him north and attempt to face this foe. Eventually the tribe reached the far North of the Aegis continent where they saw the villages had been burned to the ground by the powerful foe they sought. One night they were camping in a field when the sound of roaring fire entered their ears. The Kair, Kairach and Merach gathered their eqipment and went to investigate the sound’s cause, only to find a huge fortress made out of strange materials and surrounded by lava and some sort of flaming dirt. The Rhodirs were brave and thought themselves invincible, causing Uxhal the eleventh decide to besiege the fortress. The battle lasted but a few hours, the Rhodir forces no match to the waves of undead minions and necromancers. Uxhal was killed during the battle along with the majority of the Rhodir Keirachs.

The Merach’s 17 year old son Uxhal the Twelfth managed to lead the remaining Rhodirs away from the fortress, now knowing that they stood no chance against this foe. The Rhodir Karechi traveled South once more until they came to a great desert. Being used to the cold climate of the deep South’s snowy tundra, the Rhodirs were not prepared to cross the blazing sands. And so the Karechi set up camp at the very edge of the desert and began to build a home to last them many years to come. In preparation for the future, the Rhodirs built a grand sandstone tower which they called ‘The Spire’. Around the building, a small town of various sized huts were built to accommodate the people. Several tribes from the desert region left their original home and joined the Karechi in this time, leading to a large percentage of the tribe being of a darker skin tone. The settlement was called ‘Karalgyr’s Rah’ meaning Heaven’s Son, with the intent of showing that it was a safe haven for their people from all that stood to oppose them, though this was not true. Knowing of the destruction that had fallen upon the Northern parts of the realm and that it would eventually spread to the south and destroy them also, the Merach lead his people North once more with intentions of aiding one of Aegis’s major cities in a sort of ‘last stand’. Luckily for them, by the time they reached the center of the continent a portal had opened to a new land beyondt. The monks told of salvation through the portal, and putting their survival above all else, the Rhodirs traveled through into the Verge. In the verge the Karachi built their own ship and sailed on to the new land along with the Aegisian fleet.

Upon reaching the new land, the Karechi headed deep into the Northern wilds. They began their new lives in a large snowy region, similar to that in which they had lived in Southern Aegis. The Merach did not bother to have his people built a new Spire or settlement, knowing that the raiding ways of his grandfather’s people would serve them better in such a time. The Rhodir’s continued to live nomadically throughout this period, pillaging the settlements and crumbling the societies of the Northern wilds. Many decades past and the Karechi continued to live in this way, but all would change upon the arrival of an old foe. One day a Rhodir Keir was scouting out a newly built settlement that the Merach planned to attack. Upon close inspection, the Kair saw that the man who was obviously the leader of the settlement wore upon his head a crown that had been described to him in a story told by his father; it was the crown of the Adunian Lord.

Upon reporting his sighting to Uxhal Urendir the Fifteenth, the Rhodir Merach ordered a patrol of Keirs to watch over the new settlement day in and day out in order to learn the new ways of their ancient enemies. Names and positions were slowly learnt through the constant surveilance and Uxhal began to plan a siege on the settlement. But before he could act, the Adunians suspiciously packed up and headed back South for reasons unknown. Contempt on avenging his forefathers against these ‘traitors’, Uxhal did not hesitate to order his tribe to pursue the Adunian party back to the Southern lands. The Rhodirs followed their ancient enemies closely, though remained out of sight and undetected by their foe. They quickly passed out of the snowy region and back into the uncontested lands of the Asulon continent. It was harder to stay out of sight here, but the Rhodirs had trained themselves to hide for many centuries and were still able to avoid prying eyes. After many weeks of walking after the Adunian Lord’s party, the Karechi crossed into a new snowy region where a settlement was discovered. The Adunian Lord was greeted with open arms upon entering the town, and it became obvious that these were his lands.

The Merach lead his people across a small mountain range and into a contested region to the West. There they set up camp and began working on what would become the second Rhodir Spire. In the meantime Uxhal continued to have his Keirs and Keirachs watch over the Adunian settlements, occasionally accompanying them out himself to observe the Adunians with his own eyes. After over a month, the Merach chose his time to act. He revealed himself and his people openly to the Adunians, hoping to infiltrate their society and stab them in the back when they weren't looking. Sadly for him, things took a different turn. The Merach began to have men assist in guarding the Adunian settlement as a sign of good faith, but one of the Adunian guardsmen took a dislike to this. The guard started a fight with and proceeding to kill a Rhodir Keir who was on watch duty. The Rhodir Merach did not want to give up his original plan and so rode out to the Adunian castle of Winterhall in order to negotiate. He insisted on traveling alone as a sign of good faith in his negotiations. The Adunians greeted him through the gates with open arms, but it was all a trap. As soon as Uxhal was inside, the gate dropped and swords were drawn. The Adunian warriors charged forth to attack Uxhal, killing his horse and forcing him onto foot. Uxhal tried to escape from the castle, but ended up being knocked into the moat. The Adunians mercilessly shot him on the orders of Adunian Lord Artorus Elendil as he helplessly flailed about in the water.

Uxhal’s son soon heard news of his father’s demised and became enraged. The new Merach scrapped his father’s original plan and proclaimed war against the Adunian people and their leader Artorus Elendil. Uxhal the Sixteenth appointed his younger brother Zharo the Grand Meirshul of the Karechi and together they led a brutal, 5-year war against the Adunia. The war contained no real battles, but instead plenty of sieges were performed on the Spire and Winterhall, various parties were ambushed and the occasional ranking figure on either side was assassinated. After the five years that made up the war, Artorus Elendil thought it wise to fight two wars and once and rebelled against Oren. Artorus was killed and Uxhal felt no need to continue the war. The Merach arranged a treaty with Artorus’ son and headed back North with his Karechi. A small detachment of Rhodir Keirachs were left in the Spire as the tribe’s Southern Detachment. This group was lead by Zharo and assisted the Adunia where it could do to their treaty. But the men of the Western wilds were closing in.

Several years passed as the Karechi continued its ways in the North and Zharo lead the Southern Detachment. A force of wildlings was rising up in the area in which the Spire had been built, and they were pushing everyone who wasn't one of their own back into the Eastern lands of Oren. Zharo was convinced to stay and fight, but the wildling horde grew each day and eventually outnumbered his forces fifty-to-one. The horde surrounded the Spire, leaving no escape for the Keirachs holed up inside. Soon the siege began, and after several days and the majority of the Rhodir’s arrows the wildlings broke through the stone walls. The Karach’s had to retreat into the main tower, and fought until their very last breath and the enemies tried to climb up the long staircase. After almost an entire day, the wildings gave up trying to climb the stairs as they hadn't managed to kill a single Rhodir in doing so. The horde retreated outside the tower and tried a different tactic. Zharo Urendir stood atop the tower for the majority of this period, trying to figure out what the wildlings below were doing. Soon enough, it became evident that the horde were creating various devices in an attempt to crumble the tower’s lower section and have it crumble down upon itself. The strong Rhodir architecture lasted for a day, but the constant battering from hundreds, maybe even thousands of wildlings wore away at the stone. As it was evident the tower was on its last legs, Zharo put on his heavy plate armour that Keirach Wercheg had forged him during the war with the Adunians. The Grand Meirshul began to slowly make his way down the stairs, planning to charge out of the wildlings and die in battle.

But Zharo was not given this pleasure, the tower beginning to crumble as he reach halfway down the long staircase to the tower’s base. The stone walls caved in and Zharo slid across the floor as the tower tilted the side. He flew out a large window and crashed down into the ground below. The Spire came crashing down on top of the Meirshul, and should have killed him instantly, but as if by a miracle, the tower split either side of Zharo as he lay unconscious of the dirt, only a small amount of debris actually landing on him. This miracle along with the extremely thick armour Wercheg had forged him and the fact that his fall was significantly decreased by falling to the ground from the tower once he was already three quarters of the way down allowed for Zharo Urendir’s life to continue. He woke from a short coma with a powerful concussion after two days of lying under the debris. His armour was dented and mangled, but had saved his life whilst its maker had been crushed to death during the tower’s destruction. By now the widlings had left the ruins of what was once the Spire and Zharo was able to peacefully make his way back towards his home in the North, along with the assistance of a number of items he had managed to scavenge from the debris.

Zharo was seriously injured from the tower siege and upon finding the Karechi still needed several months to recover. But Zharo could not recover in time to live the raiding Rhodir lifestyle once more. By the time he was recovered a mysterious force had entered the land and the people had begun to flee across the oceans. The Karechi did no different, reviving the old ship which their forefathers had used to come to Asulon and heading off to the new land. The Rhodirs had not sailed in over a century and their skills were lacking, resulting in their boat becoming shipwrecked in the region of Kalos. Most of the Rhodirs either died in the wreck or drowned making their way back to dry land. All that remained were Uxhal, Zharo several Keirachs and Keirs along with a handful of children. Very few women had made it out of the wreck alive, and the future of the Karechi looked grim. Uxhal decided it was best his people set out on their own paths, settling into different societies. Before they all left, he promised them that when the time was right, he would take leadership once more and lead their people back to what they had once been.

Rhodir Weaponry

The Rhodirs use a small range of clothing, mainly made from furs, hides, wool and leather. The clothes are usually of a darker colour and made to cover almost the entire body to protect from the harsh conditions of the Northern wilds. The clothes were usually thick coats, gloves, boots, pants, fleeces, shirts, jumpers, vests and fur hats (like soviet WW2 hats). For armour, the Rhodirs would attach thick plates of wrought iron to the outside of their clothes and wear menacing helms with faces shaped like that of a bull. The Rhodir people did not discover chainmail until the pursued the Adunians into the South, but to this day remain to think it impractical and neglect to use it.

Rhodir Transport

The Rhodirs have always been horsemen. A Rhodir is trained to ride from the age of eight so that the tribe can travel efficiently on horseback.

Rhodir Views

The Rhodirs remain proud to this day of their betrayal to the Adunians, though they have mixed views of Owyn. Some are glad that they have inherited their way of life through the event of him exiling them, others remain remorseful that they ever trusted him. The Rhodirs believe that they are more are a ‘higher breed’ compared to the Adunians due to them mixing their blood with common humans, and show no loyalty to the Adunian Lord. Believing that they are better than all the other races of Asulon, the Rhodirs refuse to show any loyalty to people other than their Merach and each other. If one is proved to have betrayed the tribe, they are traditionally tied down in an icy river  with their head just above the water. If the cold does not kill the person, the water freezes slowly into their neck, eventually severing their jugular vein and causing them to bleed out.

Rhodir Religion (And history as the Rhodirs remember it)

The Rhodir religion shares few similarities with the Adunian one from which it was spawned. The Rhodirs believe that the races of Aegis and all the lands were created by a single god named Zeluath (The Creator). Over time, Zeluath’s younger brother Ulric (Iblees) grew jealous of his brother’s power and turned against him, wreaking havoc across the land Zeluath had created. Not knowing what was really going on above, the races of Aegis led themselves to believe that Zeluath was angry and had turned upon them. A war raged between the races of Aegis and the forces of the Ulric for many years until they reached the stage when it looked like all the races were defeated. But Ulric thought better. Instead of finishing the races off, he used the situation to his advantage. Ulric descended to the land and told the leaders of each race that his name was Aeriel and that they had been fighting his dark nemesis, the god Iblees. Ulric then used his powers to conjure a dark beast, telling the races that it was Iblees before casting it into the void. Ulric proceeded to cease his attacks on the land, and hence the people thought he truly was their creator ‘Aeriel’ who had banished the dark god ‘Iblees’. Zeluath was ashamed that the races he had created were so easily deceived by his twisted brother and hence turned his back on them, beginning to search the land for anyone who was still loyal to him. In the end, he found but two groups; the Harrenites and the Elves of Sarai. Zeluath used his divine powers to unite the two groups, although their first encounter did not go as he had planned. A war was started between the two groups, and Zeluath could only watch in shame as blood was needlessly spilt. After many years of conflict, Zeluath could stand the quarelling below no longer.

Zeluath sent his Ri’vare (Aenguls) down to the leaders of both groups and convinced them that their common god had a divine plan for them. The next day, both tribes lay down their weapons and joined into one, mixing blood and creating the race known as Adunians. Centuries passed, the Adunians and other worshippers of Zeluath came together in the new Kingdom of Idunia. But Zeluath was still not pleased. As the kingdom grew, the rulers were slowly corrupted by their power. Zeluath had his Ri’vare make another voyage down to the land to meet with several powerful figures within the kingdom. The Ri’vare were able to convince these men to rebel against their leaders and drive the majority of Adunians from the kingdom as they had been corrupted from their ways and no longer truly followed Zeluath. The Adunians who were allowed to stay were named the ‘Rhodi’, meaning blessed in the old tongue, as they were truly loyal to Zeluath. But the god was mistaken in his acts, for whilst the Adunians had left, the kingdom’s leaders continued to corrupt. The Ri’vare descended for a final meeting with the Rhodi who were the only beings to remain loyal to their grand god. The Ri’vare instructed the Rhodi that they were now Zeluath’s disciples and had to leave Idunia and begin their own civilization. The Rhodi obeyed their god’s messengers and abandoned the crumbling city, heading south to begin their new life.

Many years on the people of Aegis continued to worship Ulric as he posed as ‘Aerial’. Though Ulric grew tired, the races had been worshipping him for centuries and he was bored. His twisted mind made him relish blood, and to resolve his boredom Ulric raised his dark armies once more and brought them down in full force upon the races of Aegis. The people believed that ‘Aerial’ was still there and able to push back this ‘Iblees’ once more, but they were wrong. Ulric did not bother playing the good god any longer, and soon the races were nearing annihilation. Out of pity, Zeluath created a portal to a new world and lead the races on their way, leaving his brother trapped in the old one. Soon enough the races had settled in this new land and the Rhodirs continued their life in the far North. The Rhodirs remain loyal to Zeluath and his Ri’vare to this day. The great god can be communicated with through the Ra’kir; the religious leaders of the Rhodirs. the Ra’kir communicate with Zeluath and his Ri’vare through tribal dances, sacrifices, and other spiritual acts.

Rhodir Society

In Rhodir society, the key to power is your ‘ach’. When you are training to be a warrior of the Karechi, you are a Keir, but when you finish training you are given your ‘ach’ and hence become a Keirach. The same goes for the leaders of the tribe, the eldest son of the current leader being a Mer. When his father dies or passes on his position, the Mer earns his ‘ach’ as the new leader of the Karechi, hence becoming the Merach. There are few other positions in Rhodir society, and all are military based. The Meirshul is the Merach’s second in command, and the Quamur is the one who supplies the Karechi’s warriors with weapons and armour. A tradition in Rhodir society is the final test of a Rhodir Keir before he becomes a Keirach. A hot knife is taken and a vertical slit it cut in the Keir's face, running from just above his/her eyebrow, across the eyelid and down onto the upper cheek. If the wound becomes a scar the Keir will earn his 'ach', if the wound becomes infected the Keir will die unworthy.

The reason there is no Clan Brae is it is semi inactive though I have seen some recently so I think it should be. No Campbell yet because lore was not yet accepted. Fix it or get it approved, and it should be fine.

Adunians are a very specific breed of Half elf, /technically/. For whatever reasons, perhaps the ancientness of thier blood, the Curse of Iblees does not overrule the Blessing of Ariel, and they manage to have a much longer lifespan, in some cases living to 400 Years.

All Adunians are half Elves. Not all Half elves are Adunian.

EDIT: Ninja-Han.
