Wood Elven Lore

Or At Least my Attempt

 

As anyone who has a wood elven character would know, the Mali'ame are among the least documented among the races in the world of Anthos. This is my attempt to remedy that issue. I will approach this in steps. 

 

1. I will gather information on every wood elven character I can. This will be done through interviews that will be done on this topic. Keep in mind that this will be OOC, so be free to tell everything about your character.
2. I will then take the most recurring themes from the interviews, see if they match the existing lore, which is not much.
3. I will then refine and edit the lore to make it make sense, and give it an air of professionalization.
4. I will then submit this lore to the Admins, and then we'll find out if its any good!

A Bad Interview

The example I am presenting to you below is an example of a bad interview that will not be added into the masses.

10. What is your character's main proffesion? Any side jobs/hobbies?: He likes to hunt.

As you could see, that was pretty bad, and would not help in creating the lore that wood elves need.

 

A Good Interview

 

Now I will show you what I will be accepting. It doesn't have to be as thorough, and it can be more thorough, however, this is what I more or less need out of you.

 

1. What is your Wood Elven Character's name? : Rhonir Draug

3. What is your Character's Personality? : Rhonir is very kind to others. He has on multiple occasions gone out of his way to help people. However, he does have limits. If his trust in someone is broken, then it takes a lot of healing to have it rebuild. Rhonir believes in protection of the innocent, as well as nonviolence when ever it is possible. 
4. What is your Character's typical garb? : Under the coat he has been using recently, Rhonir wears a green tunic, with dark green undershirt. He also wears dark green trousers. He uses brown, leather boots, and wears his leather belt. He usually has his quiver strapped to his back.
5. What is your Character's religious/spiritual views? : Rhonir does not know if there are or not divine beings. He, however, has utmost respect for the natural world, and would do things out of his way to protect it.
6. How was your Character's upbringing?: Rhonir grew up in a small, predominantly Mali'ame settlement in the woods of Malinor. He lived in tree homes and learned to shoot a bow from an incredibly young age, and has mastered the art.
7. What is your character's physical prowess/physical skills/fighting ability? : Rhonir is competent at close quarter combat, but prefers to use his bow. He made it himself out of the finest yew, pecan, and hickory trees he could find. He can shoot an arrow every two seconds, and can fire with deadly precision. He has trained for over a century.
8. Does your character have any craftsmanship skills? If so, name and describe them. Ex: Fletchery, Carpentry, etc. Rhonir is a highly skilled fletcher. He has made himself his own masterfully carved bow that rivals the power of some of the finest in the land. He is very meticulous when crafting his bows, as they are very precise in their designs.
9. Do you feel that your character is a typical wood elf? Explain your answer and reasoning.: I'd say that Rhonir, due to his upbringing, skillset, and garb, is a fairly typical wood elf. If the most generic wood elf was 0, and the most atypical wood elf ever was a 10, I'd give Rhonir a 3.5.
10. What is your character's main proffesion? Any side jobs/hobbies?: Rhonir is an archer by trade, and fights for the sentinels as an archer. He is also a biologist  and loves studying animals and plants, as well as spending time outdoors.
11. Anything else you might want to add or suggest? : Good job with your efforts. Good luck!

So that's a good example. As I said, it doesn't have to be that good, or it can be better. If you don't have the time, I understand, but try to get around to it. The more I get, the better the lore will be. I hope that this attempt will go well.

What is your Character's Personality?: He is quite merry, as wood elves should be, and enjoys a good laugh. He is caring, too, and often uses his medical skills to help anyone, even his enemies (of which he has very few). He is in deep touch with nature, understanding it better then most, as he has been a druid for many years. 

 

What is your Character's typical garb? : A green cloak, which he wears everywhere. On his neck he wears a pendant, inside of which is a small flower.

 

What is your Character's religious/spiritual views? : He believes in the Aspects, Cernunnos and Cirridwen.

 

 

How was your Character's upbringing? Nothing too unusual, he grew up in Malinor and had a typical elven childhood. 

 

What is your character's physical prowess/physical skills/fighting ability? : He cannot fight with a sword, and his skill with a bow are only slightly above average.

Do you feel that your character is a typical wood elf? Explain your answer and reasoning.: This is a rather difficult question. Normally, my character would be the example of a typical elf, but nowadays most elves tend to argue and fight. So I guess I'll say no.

She has actually hardened through the last decade. She is sweet and caring but she is also assertive and strong-willed. She isn't afraid to confront her problems if they involve another person. She has trouble dealing with internal issues and tends to bottle them up. Fears, guilts, etc...

 

What is your Character's typical garb? :

 

When she isn't in her armor she usually wears light clothing that flows with her movements. Her legs are usually shown. The only time she wears dresses is for bed and some formal occasions.

She usually layers parts of whatever she is wearing with leather. ((belt, gloves, boots))

She doesn't practice anything.

 

How was your Character's upbringing?

 

She was born at the end of Aegis where she lost her Mother, Father, and sister. Through her travels to Asulon she recieved a concussion which fragmented her memory. She would lose her memory in intervals for the next hundred years until a cleric was able to nuture her mind back to health. For a century she was mentally only 20 and in the last 50 years that she has had her memory her mental age is catching up with her.

 

What is your character's physical prowess/physical skills/fighting ability? :

 

She used to be useless but through training she has grown quite adept in swordplay however she still uses a more rigid two hand stance while fighting.

She is naturally acrobatic and can perform simple flips.

Physically she is pretty fit.

She doesn't have any special skills but she does have an eye for architecture after spending years with a high elven friend.

 

Do you feel that your character is a typical wood elf? Explain your answer and reasoning.:

 

Hera used to be extremely typical for a wood elf. She at one point wore a dress made from moss and flowers. However she has gone into training after watching a close friend die and nearly die herself. Because of this she is no longer a typical wood elf besides the fact that she doesn't eat meat and it very conservative about nature.

 

What is your character's main profession? Any side jobs/hobbies?:

 

She is the High Mageshield of the Delvers. She trains the mageshields and escorts the Delvers, who are mages, on adventures through dungeons.

At one point her memory was so bad that she forgot how to speak. Other than that? No but if I think of something I will edit this.

Originally Elorna Avern, after she was married she took on the name Elorna Lle'hileia. Not because that's her husband's last name, but because during the ceremony they both chose 'new' names for each other.

Very kind, compassionate, and empathetic. But also naive, overly trusting and forgiving, and a little on the timid side.

1. What is your Character's typical garb?

Dresses made with light fabric, almost always green with brown, sometimes yellow or blue accents. Her hair is either down or in a low ponytail. She has a blue opal necklace and she'll occasionally wear a flowery wreath or go barefoot.

She doesn't care about religion, it's not something she thinks about much. She sees nature as something to be respected and emulated, but doesn't exactly worship it.

1. How was your Character's upbringing?

Her father was a wanderer and dragged her and her mother all around Asulon, though her mother managed to keep her sheltered from the outside world. Her mother was a much more traditional wood elf, with a greater love of nature and the forest than her father, and Elorna takes after her the most.

She's not a fighter in any way whatsoever. She has minimal experience with the bow.

Not really.

1. Do you feel that your character is a typical wood elf? Explain your answer and reasoning.

There are so few wood elves, and even fewer who act the way you'd think a 'typical' wood elf would, that it's hard to say. I think she's pretty much the model of a peace-loving, tree-hugging wood elf.

1. What is your character's main profession? Any side jobs/hobbies?:

Steward on the Lower Council of Malinor, formerly a scribe and before that farmer. She still enjoys farming and books, and occasionally sewing.

1. Anything else you might want to add or suggest?

She's more comfortable outdoors and in a forest than anywhere else. Being in human cities makes her uneasy, and she's terrified of being underground.

What is your Character's Personality? : A humble genius if you will. Though he likes not to brag, Sil is a born intellectual. Also, he is righteous, only to a certain reasonable extent. If anything he's carefree and relaxed, though he takes pride in a job well done.
What is your Character's typical garb? : Tattered green robes, also, he carries a pack. He wants to save up his money, so he decides to not "renew" his wardrobe.
What is your Character's religious/spiritual views? : Sil is impartial, he personally doesn't believe in any god-like figures, but respects those who do and treats them without bias.
How was your Character's upbringing? Sil was grown in a modestly sized village in the Elven woodlands, he tends to forget his childhood sometimes, believing it is best to document the past, though even more important to document the present.
What is your character's physical prowess/physical skills/fighting ability? : Sil is all-around clumsy. He's mediocre at best with a sword and slightly better than horrible with a bow, though he sometimes shoots a bow for fun (usually missing).
Does your character have any craftsmanship skills? If so, name and describe them. Ex: Fletchery, Carpentry, etc. Sil is a writer (if that's a craftsmanship skill). He's starting up a newspaper in Vaerhaven.
Do you feel that your character is a typical wood elf? Explain your answer and reasoning.: No, he is a terrible soldier and a pure intellectual. Though, physically he is almost identical to the average Mali'ame, mentally, he is much different, seeing a different outlook on life, where knowledge is more important than prowess in battle.
What is your character's main proffesion? Any side jobs/hobbies?: Sil is a writer, a biologist, and the head of a newspaper.
Anything else you might want to add or suggest? : Try adding a question or questions about their daily life and where they live. Otherwise, great "Interview" and an important goal.

My responses will be a bit different as Elindor is a halfblood, and also a wizard.

4. What is your Character's typical garb? : Faded navy blue robes (after becoming magic) Brown pants and a mustardy green shirt with a forest-green ranger's cloak (before)
5. What is your Character's religious/spiritual views? : Creator God interacts with this world. Aenguls and Daemons are not worthy of praise.
6. How was your Character's upbringing? Raised in his Uncle's house and dwelled in Upper Laurelin. Didn't leave Malinor until the age of 70. Involved in community.
7. What is your character's physical prowess/physical skills/fighting ability? : Never was very strong, but nimble with great eyesight (when young) and good dexterity. Bow skills and an ability to defend himself in sword fights though without the strength to land blows that would win.
8. Does your character have any craftsmanship skills? If so, name and describe them. Ex: Fletchery, Carpentry, etc. Fletchery, only ever used arrows he made himself. Making books and penmanship. Lumberjacking

Explain your answer and reasoning.:No. Elindor was a typical 'elf' in his youth as he was raised in Laurelin without any sub-racial expectations, but he did not gravitate towards any specific characteristics.Now he is a wizard so race goes out the window.
10. What is your character's main proffesion? Any side jobs/hobbies?: Did do: Lumberjacking. Librarian. Ranger of the forest (protecting travellers)
11. Anything else you might want to add or suggest? : Elindor is always called back to be amidst the forest. He loathes cobblestone structures or any major use of stone. He knows ancient elven (sometimes considered the language of the forest) and can whisper to trees to encourage their growth. A couple of abandoned stone towns were victim to the practice of growing giant trees.

• What is your Character's Personality? : He can be very passionate about a few things. Basically think, one hundred year old-old man. He can be cranky, lovable, and coy. Whenever he is in his forests, he is typically happy and at peace.
• What is your Character's typical garb? : While he is residing in Malinor, he wears tan trousers and an ivory tunic, with a green robe on top of everything, bare foot. While traveling he dons a leather poncho in place of his robes, and puts on boots for the roads.
• What is your Character's religious/spiritual views? : He reveres nature in a deep manner of respect. Holding the druids in high regard, especially considering they saved his life on two occasions. He does not worship it. But he does see it as a great entity that deserves to be held in regard higher than anything else. 
• How was your Character's upbringing? Chaotic. I would prefer that people to learn about his past through roleplay though, so I won't feed you the bio. Sorry :P
• What is your character's physical prowess/physical skills/fighting ability? : The quicker the fight, the better. He wields a bow and is quite skilled in its use. Anything else, daggers, swords, hatchets, etc. He is simply run of the mill average.

Anything that involves metals, he is completely clueless about. He has made the shortbow his wife uses in their sessions at the archery range, and is currently making a custom door for his rather large friend, Ivar.
• Do you feel that your character is a typical wood elf? Explain your answer and reasoning.: I believe Avery is a traditional Elf in many senses. He prefers to be in the forests. He excels in a small range of things. There are not many others to compare to, as far as Wood Elves go. I believe him to be more aggressive, as well as loyal to his heritage more so than many of the ones I've seen. 
• What is your character's main proffesion? Any side jobs/hobbies?: He's a prince of the High Council, specializing in diplomatic affairs. He is also perhaps one of a small handful of legitimate minstrels and poets.

3. What is your Character's Personality? :Timid and sometimes shy when he first meets someone new, but once he gets to know the person he is really friendly and outgoing
4. What is your Character's typical garb? :This depends on the occasion; Casual, A Dark Green and Black, leather hunting uniform, with the all too common Bracers.  Formal. green cotton overcoat with a white linen shirt and Brown Trousers
5. What is your Character's religious/spiritual views? :He doesn't believe in any Deity or any  other Religion and prefers to be Atheist 
6. How was your Character's upbringing? As most of the Wood Elves he was brought up with his family in an Elven settlement, picking up the customs. Until they passed he lived there, but after he moved to a human settlement where he was taken in and treated well, so up to now he will give humans a time to prove themselves to him before he  considers them as a Valah which he considers an Insult to them.
7. What is your character's physical prowess/physical skills/fighting ability? :He is fast-moving and quite jumpy as he will pass through the trees almost like a ghost. He often uses these skills to be stealthy and spy on unknowing victims. Fighting abilities will have to be with his Long Bow to start with as he has used it since he was young, but since his time with humans he learn't some sword skills from them, mostly with a short sword.
8. Does your character have any craftsmanship skills? If so, name and describe them. Ex: Fletchery, Carpentry, etc. Fletchery. Leather Tanning both learn't from his parents. but during his time with Humans he learnt a lot about Masonry which is unusual for a wood elf to know.
9. Do you feel that your character is a typical wood elf? Explain your answer and reasoning.:He likes to feel equal to his friends, no matter their race, as long as they trust him and he trusts them. He would consider them one of his own race (Of sorts)

11. Anything else you might want to add or suggest? : Elros isn't really a typical elf but holds some if not most of the traits of a normal one, due to his upbringinging with Humans.

2. What is your IGN? :ryanheff74
3. What is your Character's Personality? : Ryan is very outgoing and kind, but can turn serious and secretive like flipping a minas. Ryan can jump into conflicts he usually doesnt know the  details about, getting himself into trouble. Also, Ryan is loose and relaxed during times of travel and safety. 
4. What is your Character's typical garb? : Ryan wears a jacket, a green camoflouge cloak, a red tunic, and dark, dark green pants. He also has a quiver that has throwing knives on the strap, and a belt with a pack and sheath for a dagger.
5. What is your Character's religious/spiritual views? :Ryan tends to mutter "My chirr." The Elven word for wolf is chirr. Ryan basically has very high respects for wolves as he learned how to survive from them, so you could say he "worships them." But he does not take it very seriously only usually making references like the one previously stated.
6. How was your Character's upbringing? Ryan was left an orphan with his brother Lucas. They lived in the wilds for a long time learning how to survive by watching and hunting with the wolves. After a few years they were adopted by an Assassin Cult, who killed for money. Ryan left after many many years of contracts and adventure.
7. What is your character's physical prowess/physical skills/fighting ability? : Ryan's weapons of choice are throwing knives, a recurve bow, and a dagger. He is extremely skilled with these weapons and is one of the best archers in all of Anthos. He isnt very strong but makes up for it with reaction speed, speed in general and acrobatics. He is an extremely skilled hunter.
8. Does your character have any craftsmanship skills? If so, name and describe them. Ex: Fletchery, Carpentry, etc.: He is great at working with wood but that is his limit with smithing and crafting. He is a fletcher, woodworker, and he can craft wooden/stone weapons.
9. Do you feel that your character is a typical wood elf? Explain your answer and reasoning.: Yes, I once overheard one elf complaining that wood elves were too "loose." My character is loose. He enjoys nature just as a WOOD elf should. He is proud to be a wood elf. But, he does not have a single accent, he has multiple accents, because he was brought up by multiple races.
10. What is your character's main proffesion? Any side jobs/hobbies?: My character is going to be founding  The Anthosian Foresters, this will be his main proffesion, they scout, spy, hunt, protect, and guide. On the side he hunts, sells anything he can find, and crafts wooden tools.
11. Anything else you might want to add or suggest? : Maybe ask where does your character owe his/her allegiance too. So we can figure what wood elves typically align themselves to. But beside this it was a great interview and I am glad somebody finally adressed the issue.

What is your Character's Personality? : Meren is a kind elf and is nice to her friends due to things happening in her life she is suspicious of strangers but once she gets to know them she treats them as a friend, she has some limited medical knowledge and will help anyone she has the knowledge to help and if she can't help them she will try find someone who can, although if that person is her enemy or she thinks they don't deserve to live she would just turn her back and walk away without offering any help.
4. What is your Character's typical garb? : Meren is married to a lord of a town so to look like a lady she has recently taken to wearing dresses but before her marriage she wore pants and a shirt fitted to her body for better ease of movement in forests and while climbing trees.
5. What is your Character's religious/spiritual views? : Meren does not practice anything
6. How was your Character's upbringing?: My characters upbringing was a happy and easy one untill about the age of 19 when her home forest was burned down and she had to leave and through out the rest of her life her family members died off one by one.

What is your character's physical prowess/physical skills/fighting ability? : Meren is alright with a bow currently she use to be much better but due to being married and then getting pregnant she has not been able to practice as much as she use to and is no where near as good as she once was, with knives or daggers she can throw them accurately but again she use to be better, with normal hand to hand combat she is competent with anyone her size and weight but with an oppenant bigger and heavier then her with more training she would probably lose.

9. Do you feel that your character is a typical wood elf? Explain your answer and reasoning.: I do not think my character is a typical wood elf as although she loves trees and nature she has moved with friends and family to the dwarven hold of Vaerhaven where the weather is cold and snowy and she doesn't have the same forests around her although her love for nature and trees has not diminished.

Any side jobs/hobbies?: Meren's main profession is being a mother and a wife, she is also a lady of the town of Vaerhaven, she has some medical knowledge and is an average hunter although she was better once, she is currently taking up the learning of fire evocation.
11. Anything else you might want to add or suggest? : Meren doesn't eat any kind of meat due to her upbringing.
