In-Character Information:

Complete the following biography on your character:

Full Name: Aed Wodesome

Current Age: 40

Sub-race (if any): Adunian

Past / History (include childhood, major-events, etc. 2+ paragraphs long):

Down, up, left, left, right. Aéd matched the strokes of Erik’s waster almost casually as they danced about the yard. A parry here, a lunge there, and within 30 seconds, Erik had been disarmed and put to the ground. Aéd looked with confidence to Erik’s surprised eyes and said “Aren’t as sharp with the blade as ye’re with the wits, are ye m’lad?” as he helped his brother to his feet.”At least I know yer on my side” Erik responded, shaking dust from his person. Aed smiled as they walked back to their home.
Later that evening, the brothers met at the firepit with their family. There was Cenric, Erik, Aed, their father Cenhelm, and grandfather Addawulf. Addy, their sister, had gone to sleep early that night. As they gathered around the fire, Addawulf began to speak in hollow tones, as if to make himself seem the only sound in the night. “The Wodesomes, we were once great. I ‘ave told ye this many-a-time, but I must express ‘ow important it is.” All eyes were on the old man, with his silken beard and hard eyes. “Tonight, I’ll tell ye about our once great family...”
“The great halls of Rolosborg shown of bronze and silver, the greatest family of merchants in the mainland owned those gilded halls. In those gilded halls was also a gilded throne, of the likes that had ne’er been seen before. Upon that gilded throne in the gilded hall, there sat a gilded man.”

Erik interjects, “That’s a lot of silver!”

“Aye, it was! One day the gilded man on the gilded throne was greeted by another man in gilded garments. Do ye know who ‘e was? Erik, Aéd?”

Aéd exclaimed, “No, pap! Tell us!”

Addawulf smiled at the boy and resumed, “The man was a messenger...” Addawulf made a sweeping motion with his hands, then. Aéd smiled happily at the motion.

“But the messenger didn’t bring good news, no...” The smile was wiped from Aéd’s face. “That day, the gilded man on his gilded throne in his gilded halls was given very bad news indeed.” The boys leaned in closer to hear the words of their grandfather. “The message that ‘e brought to the gilded man was world-shaking, it was! The gilded man on his gilded throne was told that ‘e was no longer allowed in the world ‘e loved. The gilded man had to leave his gilded throne and his gilded halls and go only the Three know where!”

Aéd’s mouth went agape at the thought, and Erik asked, “Where was he sent, Pap!?”

The old man replied, “They were sent nowhere, just away. The great gilded man knew not what to do, but with ‘is last scrounges of wealth, ‘e bought a ship for ‘is family and some of their close friends, to the island that we live on now...”

“What was his name, the gilded man?” asked an anxious Erik.

“The gilded man’s na-”

Just then, a loud crack sounded in the distance. Cenhelm stood up and motioned for the group to stay put. He then went out onto the beach and found a wooden boat of Adunian make beached against a rock on the shore. Cenhelm looked shocked as he realized why the water looked darker than normal. Cenhelm inched around the side of the boat and found a dead man in a kilt lying inside of it...

*****

*seventeen years later*

Aed scratched his beard as they looked at the graves. Poor Addawulf had told his last tale, and their poor Addy, she had sung her last as well. Cenhelm walked up behind the two men put his hands on their shoulders. “Do you remember that man we found those many years ago?” Aed stares back at him. “Aye, what of ‘im?”

“That man, ‘e may herald the new age of Adunia... I want you to take yer brother Cenric and go to the mainland... Return our glory and avenge the needless deaths of your kin.”

Aed and Erik nod solemnly and begin work on the boat the next day.

Open-Response-Questions

Each question in this section must be answered with a minimum of one paragraph which must describe the event in full. Please be as descriptive as possible and do not break character or lore at any point.

____

1. Whilst in the mighty human capital you notice a dark-clothed figure stealthily making his way towards the Emperor’s palace - he is clearly up to no good. There are guards within shouting distance - what do you do?

Answer:

Aed notices the shady figure begin to quicken pace as he makes his way to the palace. Rather than alerting the guards- as surely they must have more important business to attend to than a hooded man walking in the streets- Aed decides to approach the man diplomatically.

Aed: Aye stranger! Might I ask what yerself be doin' squabblin' about the streets like a proper thief?

Shady man: Leave me be, knave.

Aed: Well that's no way to treat a man who only wants a friendly conversation, en't it?

Shady man: *draws dagger* If you want to make it to your family alive, you'll back away and be quiet!

Aed: *backs away slowly, showing false signs of fear* Aye lad, I mean no trouble.

Shady man: Right. You don't. Now go "squabble" back to your filth of a home an--

*Aed tackles the shady man to the ground before he can continue, knocking the weapon from his hand and leaving him dazed.*

Aed draws his sword and calls for a nearby guard, letting him do his duty.

2. Whilst wandering in the deep oak forest you come across a large clearing, in which sits a small cobbled cottage. Outside it stands an unstable old man armed with a small iron blade, surrounded by two heavily armed bandits - they appear to be threatening him. You are armed with leather armour and an iron longsword, how do you react?

Answer:

Aed slowly walks toward the bandit marauders, gaining as much ground as possible. Before the bandits can react, Aed shouts out to them:

Aed: AYE! You there! What business have ye to threaten that man? Scurry off, or it will be your head!

Bandit 1 looks to Bandit 2 and back to Aed, and advances quickly. Aed gets in the best fighting stance he can and makes himself look as big and frightening as possible. As the second, and faster, bandit closes in on Aed, Bandit 1 apprehends the helpless old man. Aed makes quick work of the nimble bandit, who didn't seem nimble enough to dodge the uppercut Aed had prepared. Bandit 1 looks to Aed, with a sword drawn to the man's neck, and says:

Bandit 1: Hand o'er all of your gold, er the old one gets it!

Aed withdraws a coin purse from his satchel and tosses it on the ground, midway between he and the bandit. The bandit tosses aside the old man and reaches for the coin purse. Before he can get to it, Aed has charged and drawn blades with him. Aed sustains a cut to his thigh, and ends the conflict with a stab through the gullet.

Aed approaches the old man, ensures that he is well, collects his things, and sets back off on the road.

3. You are standing within the mighty human capital when you notice a small man standing behind a colourful stall. You approach the stall and notice that the man is selling a variety of general goods - he says that he is selling just about anything and that he has no set prices. He is willing to allow you to haggle and choose prices. What do you do? (Explain: your haggling, items of choice and the discussion that happens).

Answer:

Aed, coming from a trading family, knows just how to haggle with these types of people. However, his curiousity gets the better of him, and he asks for any ale the man may be carrying.

Aed: So, fine gentleman, have you any mead for a weary traveler? 'Been on the road for three days now. Could use a good rest, aye?

Merchant: Ah yes, I have many a bottle of common ales and meads. However, I do have exotic drinks that may interest you...

Aed: Well out with it, lad! What 'ave you got?

Merchant: I have picked up different, stronger ales from caravans of all sorts. Would the fine customer like to browse my wares?

Aed: Aye, I've got nothin' better ta do, I s'pose!

Merchant: Here is a bottle of my finest Elven wine. Unfortunately I have so few bottles that I can not have anyone taste test. Would you be interested?

Aed: Why, I've never seen anythin' like it! Look at the glow! How much for it then, lad?

Merchant: I'll take 200 gold for it, dear sir.

Aed: Oof, well that's a bit of a problem. How's about somethin' like 30 gold?

Merchant: Outrageous! I bought it from the caravan for much more than that!

Aed: Well, I can understand that. You're a hard-workin' man. Got a family back home?

Merchant: Well, yes sir, I do. My wife ,Lunette, and my daughter, Rosaline.

Aed: Aye, I know how it can be with that. I'll tell ya what. How about 50 gold pieces, and this *takes out flute* for your daughter?

Merchant: Why, my little girl has wanted to learn to play for ages! You have a deal.

Aed: Thank'ee much, kind soul.
