A Suspicious Poster

Elwen walks through the city of Lin'Evaral at night with her hood drawn up. She approaches the notice board of the city before looking around to make sure no one is nearby. As it's late at night, she sees no one so she reaches up, pinning two pieces of parchment to the board, grinning to herself. She pins up a copy of the Mali'Laurir poster...

Mali'Laurir
The Noble Elves

With the growing racism and ignorance of the Mali’Aheral, they left
behind those of a more righteous path. Those of the High Elves who feel
that their kin have lost their way, that their time disrespecting the
other races as inferior have blinded them to the knowledge and wisdom
that can be gained from other walks of life. There are those that do not
wish to associate themselves with this new idea of “Blessed Elves”.
They feel that this name is more of an insult than an identification.
These are the ones that call themselves Noble Elves... Mali'Laurir.

Maehr’sae Hiylun’ehya

The old belief. The progress of knowledge and health. A good belief, but
it has been tainted to mean more than its literal meaning. Us Noble
Elves follow a new belief... one that fits us better...

Maehr’naelu, Hileiaehier'ehya

To teach wisdom and to find peace. Us Noble Elves value wisdom and
understanding above the purity and superiority that our kin value. We
still seek to hold purity, but in a sense of spirit. Those of us who
treat our fellow Noble Elves with respect and kindness will never be
considered impure. While Mali’Aheral focus on their purity and
seclusion, us Mali’Laurir live among our Elven kin and among the other
races. This leads us to a greater understanding of the world around us
and a general appreciation of the insight that the cultures of the other
races provide.

Similar to our Mali’Aheral kin, we Mali’Laurir value knowledge and
purity. However, we have a different view of what purity is and we also
value wisdom as much as knowledge. Knowing something is of little use if
you don’t know how to use that knowledge properly. While physical
purity isn’t as much of an issue with Mali’Laurir as it is for
Mali’Aheral, only a pure-blooded High Elf can hold the classification as
a Mali’Laurir. If they’re a halfblood, they’re seen as such and
respected as a person. Not truly accepted as a Mali’Laurir, but not
outcast as they would be with Mali’Aheral. Us Mali’Laurir are generally
seen as the kinder High Elves, judging others by who they are, not by
their race or preference in company.

So we extend our hands to you, High Elves who are pure of heart and wish
for nothing more than to learn and be accepted. Let us not be known by
what the name of Mali'Aheral has become and what they have branded us
as... but let us be known for what we are; Mali'Laurir... Noble Elves.

And then, she pins a note under it, reading...

I am one of your own. I challenge you; find me.

The note and poster are unsigned and have the exact same handwriting. Elwen then quickly walks away to avoid being caught.

Reads the note shaking his head as his eyes follow the text.

"For those who claim purity yet fall to such a lowly status shall no longer be considered pure. They shall taint their bloodlines with their foul sensibilities. They might as well be wearing gold. What ikrun."

Shakes his head, and tsks multiple times. He pulls his staff beside himself, and taps it rhythmically on the ground.

"Lies skewed to truth,

ignorance skewed to logic,

regression skewed to progression,

irrelevance skewed to importance.

Such imbeciles are more welcome in the Mali'nor. Perhaps this one will leave, so that we might know them more clearly. I shall have to review my current dossiers. We shall unearth this... malcontent."

Ellir has crept up on the growing throng of Elves admiring a dissident poster. She joins at their back with light-treading feet, reminiscent of a Mali'ame, a lonely stalker who prefers to not be noticed. She reads the note as others grumble on, a trenchant grape of an elf and his angrier companion.

"There are those," she begins as she finishes the note, "that would suggest that Mali'Aheral who interpret the legacy of Larihei differently should be heard out rather than shunned outright. Haelun'or is a city of size, they might say, large enough to fit even two different beliefs if you consider that truly, said beliefs do not clash that much."

She continues to shake her head.

"If it wasn't such an obvious attempt to usurp power for personal ends I would almost respect their little revolution of the mind. Alas, what elf would shove the wedge between brothers instead of seeking compromise through unity. Good try, Malinor. Good try."

Kaelthes sighs, shaking his head. How could such ignorance befall those he would call Aheral?
