Greetings squires and squiresses,

August’s newsletter has arrived. Right here. Right now. Viper wrote up a post in late July explaining our plans for the relatively near future, so make sure you check it out - here - it’s worth a read. Otherwise, let’s crack on.

P.S. Yup, I said it’d by up on Saturday. Tough, it’s up today. :)

The Application System
This is something that Viper didn’t include in his ‘Future’ thread, because we hadn’t actually done anything about it until Friday. We’re redoing our application system - yup, again.

If we look back at the old system (you can see it here ( http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/26060- ), on my original application) - it was simple. Nothing OTT. However, since then, we’ve changed from an easy - but useful - application system into what can only be described as a tiresome chore. We’re going back to the way it once was (but a bit more testing, obviously).

But, we’re doing it in a way where it’s not simply “Hey, let’s make it easy AF”. We’re including definitions, character creation and the out-of-character questions of course, however we’ve thrown out the things that really didn’t actually give us any help understanding the applicant. We’re putting much more of a focus on having an applicant actually develop their character, rather than be forced into writing things that won't help them or us.

In addition to that, racial applications are also out the window. When we introduced them it was under the impression people would get a better understanding of their race - truly, they haven’t helped particularly much, so they’re going as they’re just a hinderance. Also, on the application thread itself, there isn’t going to be the English-language lesson we previously had, nor is there going to be a wall of text to read before you apply - instead, we’re aiming for a much smoother and friendlier post.

I can’t really say when we’ll put this into effect - but expect it in the near future. We need to iron a few things out before we can throw it up. Keep in mind also that this is still very much in the air, we’re still talking about it - so some of the things said above, might not even be in the final product!

Oh, and did I mention - Congratulations to Rhia - who’s the new GM head of the Application Team. Yay for Rhia. If you’re wanting to join the Application Team, now’s the perfect time to do so - we’ll welcome you with open arms.

Bloody Dwarves
So, it emerges that The Kingdom of Urguan has declared war on us GMs - atrocious, I know! They’re so horribly mean.

Whilst I don’t actually know when this battle will occur, it’ll undoubtedly be streamed or video’d so you’ll all be able to see it. Most importantly. you’ll be able to see Willie McDougall (played by myself) knock some dwarves to the ground, and pound them into dust with his spoon.

They’ve even given himself a bloody unfair advantage, I mean look at this (from the terms)!: “No use of Ban-hammer unless justified”. Just wow. Know what makes it even worse?: “No God-Mode”. Snap. That’s a real thorn in the arse.

I’m just messin’. I’m personally looking forward to this - it’s the first time anyone’s dared to launch a full scale war on us - there’s only been the occasional bandit raid. If you want to read the warclaim, you can pop over here ( http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/94213- ) and give it a read - it’s worth it (if you ignore the amount of rubbish in the reply section, :) ).

Chess?
Yup, and I thought I’d seen it all. We’ve now got ‘the Anthosian Chess Tournament’ kicking off. You can have a wee read about it here ( http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/94107- ) - and if you want enter. It’s a legitimate in-RP chess tourney, with the chance of winning a full 2000 minas!

Gate Tolls by the Halflings!
The Halflings at Lenfarthing have introduced a gate toll due to you lot causing them bother. They’ve even chosen different costs for different races and groups. If you’re a druid you’re in luck - they’ll let you in free. If you’re an orc, not so lucky - you ain’t getting in at all.

What’s worse, if you don’t agree to pay their toll - you’re in for some trouble, including: “trampled onions, salted grass, free ale, or imprisonment and torture”. Indeed, you’ll be imprisoned and tortured by the Halflings - so make sure you pay that bloody toll!

A History of War
Dakr (Pok) - the Scribe to the Orcish Rex compiled a document detailing the wars of Aegis, Asulon, Kalos, Elysium and Anthos back in April - I only just found it after it was updated recently. It’s great to run your eyes down and to tick off the battles that you’ve been present at and gives you the chance to have a wee moment of reminiscence. He’s done a brilliant job, so make sure you head on over and give it a read here: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/85645-

Cartography!
I’ve long wanted to see a beautifully crafted map of Anthos - and hey, whilst writing this, I found one. It’s easy to look at, up to date, and accurate. Just check it out:

Aetosion did a great job on this - working off of Godness_Aurea’s original base - he’s not just made a simple map of Anthos, but also two fantastic animated maps which show:
The Fall of the Holy Oren Empire - http://bit.ly/lotc-of
The Rise of the Grand Kingdom of Urguan - http://bit.ly/lotc-ur

If you like them, pop on over to his thread to keep an eye out for future updates to it - it’s simply wonderful. The thread’s right here: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/91246-

The Flagship
I also recently came across a rather fantastic post called ‘The Flagship [Volume 11]’ by VonEbs. It appears to me that it’s an in-game newsletter, and it’s really quite great. If you’re elven, or even if you’re not, pop over and give it a read here ( http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/93266- ). Ebs has clearly put quite a bit of time into writing these Volumes so make sure you do check them out - they’re interesting. Whilst I really don’t know that much about it, the previous ones are worth a read if you want to look back on what’s happened in Anthos.

The History of the ‘Ironborn’
Another roleplay thread I highly recommend is ‘History of the Ironborn’ by Zezimus. If you’re into long, well written and exciting threads check it out. There isn’t much more I can say on this... So, here: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/93260-

Le GM Team
July saw two new GMs - Blindmind and AllenTheGreat - they’ve both done absolutely spiffing, and I’m extremely happy to see them with us. I’m sure they’ve both met your expectations and I hope they continue to do so - yay for new GMs.

Conclusion
This has been a bit of a different newsletter this month - rather than the usual repetitive rubbish, I’d say it’s a bit of an improvement. That’s all for this month, but if you’ve got anything that you’re bursting to ask pop onto TeamSpeak tomorrow (Saturday, 10th) at 11:00 PM UTC+1 (current UK timezone) - please make sure you translate it into your timezone and remember it’s +1 (Daylight Saving)!!! For a bit of info on that, check out the thread I posted for it: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/93781-

Have a fantastic month, and a great tomorrow,
