Loss. Loss was not something Estera had known, in her seven short years of life. Her family was well, her parents loved her, and her older siblings looked out for her. Everything had been picturesque up until now. So, of course, the news of her grandfather's passing was a gutting. Because he couldn't be dead. Surely not, she had seen him earlier that very day. Sitting in the garden, mumbling in prayer as he often did. She knew. She didn't tell her mother she knew, but she did. He wasn't long for this world and had made his peace with it. Estera did not understand the weight of that, fully. After all, the permanence of death was so alien to her. But when the news came his not peaceful, in his sleep, with her mother by his side- How could that be? Why was it violent, and brutal, and so sudden? He was going to die, why would he not allow himself to go peacefully? It didn't make sense. He was gone, why did the chapel still smell of him? It wasn't fair. Oh, God, it wasn't fair.
