  3. The Sword of Catrinne (Art by melaniedelon) Silence. That is what is most unusual, when it comes to the area surrounding Petra’s beloved Memory Tree. No sound of water, no sound of insects or wildlife. There is no sound. The silence is haunting, and unfamiliar to those who hear it. “It was unlike anything I have ever seen!” Said the groundskeeper of the Holy site. “One moment nothing, and then a scream unlike any I have heard a living being produce.” There have been sightings- A woman residing by the tree itself, across the sacred pond. Always under foliage, never seen during the daytime. They say she glows, and floats, and that her eyes are haunting. She does not speak, though her cries and screams of rage echo throughout unlike any animal. They say she cries for her children, she begs and threatens to know where they are, but she never crosses the water. She never approaches any who come to the tree, and to those who dare approach, she always seems to reach for a sword- One that is not there. A ghost. A phantom. Word of the Memory Tree’s haunting spreads throughout the town like wildfire. Theories, questions, never answers or proof. Some say she is a woman who drowned in the waters long ago. Some say she is a druid bound to the tree itself. Some say she resembles the King. But no account is clear, none concrete- No one can say why she haunts the tree, or even what she wants. However- A brave few souls have claimed there may yet be answers to any who dare attempt to converse with the ghost herself. They have named her the Sword of Catrinne. 5. Over the River Petra, a nightingale perches. Despite the frigid wind and blowing snow, the icy waters still and calm. Even in the storm’s wrath, things are peaceful, if just for a moment. Petra would have a King.
  6. The young Lorelei Amelya kneels beside her bed, her little fists clasped in prayer as she hangs her head, reciting prayer between herself and GOD with a thankful heart.

  8. An old friend of the Flamebringer sits at his fireplace- A glass of whisky in one hand, and his glasses in the other. He does not cry, but he does regret. Artel’s daughter-in-law, however, weeps for the man who was more father to her than the man she never knew, or the man that died too soon.
  9. NOTICE OF PASSING | THE WATERS REST “Even the weariest rivers wind somewhere safe to sea.” Issued and averred by The Royal House of Atstana de Regne Petrère 151 IT IS THE SOLEMN DUTY of house Temesch of the Petra to announce the occasion of grief that has taken hold of our family, and our nation. It was late evening upon the 28th of Owyn’s Light that, after a years-long struggle with the same illness that had overtaken her mother at the end of her reign, Queen Adalia I of the Petra succumbed to fever within the confines of the Petrine palace, and passed on from us. She spent her final days in the care of her husband and the presence of her children, and her siblings. We are lifted by the knowledge she sits beside her beloved mother and cousin, though the sorrow her absence leaves in the royal household weighs heavy upon us. It was the final decree of the River Queen that an excerpt of her will be published, detailing the rule of the nation after her passing, which has been transcribed below. When I came of age, married, and eventually brought children into this world, my vow to them was that they shall not have to live the childhood of responsibility and weight that my mother lived, and that I lived. And yet, as I’ve come to realize may be the fate of our line, I face the possibility that both myself and my son may have no choice in the matter. Thus, I pen this order of regency in the event of my passing, to ensure no weight of governance should fall on shoulders too small to carry them. UNTIL my heir through the choice of selective succession, Therin Adil of the Petra, is of the age at which he can be crowned as king, the River Council shall rule over the Commonwealth of the Petra as its primary governing body. SO LONG as the River Council rules over the Commonwealth, it shall be led by its Chancellor, Dame Amelie Auclair, and my brother, Prince Gareth Lucius. Prince Gareth shall serve as the royal house’s primary representative and regent, chosen for the passion he has for his people, and his previous status as heir before my birth. I have utmost trust in them both, and my greatest regret is that they must shoulder this in my stead. IN THE EVENT that Prince Therin Adil of the Petra is unable to be coronated as king upon reaching the age of maturity, either through disqualification from the line of succession or death, the powers to choose a secondary heir will fall to my husband, Asad of the Petra, and my brother and crown-regent, Prince Gareth Lucius. Signed, HER ROYAL MAJESTY, Adalia I “The Dawnmade”, By the grace of GOD, Queen of the Petra, Marquise de Val d’Estenou, Countess of Temesch, Torm Marian, and Moere, Viscountess of Mies, Baroness of Garmont, Vallagne-en-Petra, Eagles Peak, Brasca, Hrenthorne, Resmore, and of the Phoenixspire, Knight of the Petrine Laurel, Templar of Malchediael, Defender of Liberty A service and funeral shall be held for the late Queen in the Abbey of Saint Edmund in Vallagne, where she was baptized and married, upon the 16th of Sun’s Smile, 151 ARP. The service will be led by His Grace, Godfrey Bishop Casica. [SUNDAY THE 8TH, 4:00PM EST] Not only those of the Commonwealth, but any who knew Adalia’s light in life, are invited to be present for her final rites. Special invitations are extended to the peoples and leaders of Petra’s allies, all of which were valued deeply by the late Queen. These would only be seen by their recipient, and any they chose to share it with. 10. i pk when it feels right. if i haven’t pk’d a character, it just means it doesn’t feel like the right time for their death, or they haven’t died in a cool enough way.
  11. With hands clean of blood that never stained them, an old man unaware of the events that transpired in the magi ruins lights a cigar. Perhaps, if he did know, it would bring him peace. Instead, he is left with the cloud of smoke that is exhaled into the night sky. Someday, maybe.
  12. i never met pebbles, but she, her family, and her friends will all be in my thoughts. i hope she finds rest, and the joy i know she deserves. she sounds like she had a beautiful soul.
  13. this made me actually update my version, which i notoriously hate doing. gg
  14. The Petran Queen shakes her head, putting the missive down. "Wrong." She laughs bitterly as she begins to fold the paper. "You expelled one of multiple bandit clans. Expelling only one does not clean your hands. You have righted no wrongs."
  15. The Temesch Queen of the Petra lets out a small laugh at the legislation being described as ‘liberal feminist’, a smile remaining on her features as she reads. “They sound like a lovely pair- A shame I will never have the chance to speak to them face to face.” Instead, she moves to pen a letter to the Archbishop. One of thanks, for his years of dedication and loyalty.
  16. “Pathetic.” The Templar Queen of the River hisses as she lowers the paper onto her desk, her tired features twisted in anger. “Spawn of Iblees, you will not poison these lands. I will find you.” She promises into the dark, letting the candle beside her burn.

  19. THE NATURE OF A BANDIT Issued and averred by Her Majesty Atstana de Regne Petrère 139 IN THE TIME OF RENILDE I, Bandits roamed the lands of the Commonwealth, under many names and banners. One of these banners was that of House Mogg. A name that, after years of being known for nothing but the blood it shed, faded into disgrace and obscurity. Excommunicated, schismatic, and unrepentant. An enemy to the Church, a poor memory to our people, and nothing more. IN THE TIME OF CATHERINE I, Bandits roamed the lands of the Commonwealth, and they needn’t walk far to do it. They made their home within the walls of those who claimed to be our allies, and reaped the benefits of our trade in the same breath that they struck down our people. A bandit state grew upon our borders, like an infection creeping over the land. Before we realized the monster that had appeared beside us, we were already under its heel. IN THE TIME OF ADALIA I, Bandits roam the lands of the Commonwealth, and their nature is now made clear. They will find a holding near you, and attempt to pacify you with their words. They will act as a vile disease, spreading over the lands they inhabit until what it once was has diminished to nothing, and in its place is a machine of war. Then, when the growth has been permitted to swell, it will strike. One cannot live in peace, beside a Bandit State. They may only bide their time, and watch lives be lost. Petra will not again wait. Petra will not again watch. AS PER THE LEX PETTRES, II. On The Bandit Clause i. Bandits are considered below the Law of the Commonwealth if caught in the act of banditry, and their lives are forfeit if they are undeniably bandits. ii. Any person may kill an active bandit within the Commonwealth without trial, as long as they can prove that they were undeniably a bandit. If the orders of Tar-Caraneth Aryantë are not heeded, and if these men are not cast from our neighboring lands, the Commonwealth of the Petra shall raise its banners to join the Númenedain and wipe out the excommunicant bandit clans that have infected Silasia. We shall not repeat the mistakes of our past, and wait for the threat on our border to grow. In defense of the faith, and in defense of the people, we must act. AVE PETRA Signed, HER ROYAL MAJESTY, Adalia I “The Dawnmade”, By the grace of GOD, Queen of the Petra, Marquise de Val d’Estenou, Countess of Temesch, Torm Marian, and Moere, Viscountess of Mies, Baroness of Garmont, Vallagne-en-Petra, Eagles Peak, Brasca, Hrenthorne, and Resmore, Knight of the Petrine Laurel, Defender of Liberty
