  3. I’m here to have a quick chat about homophobia in roleplay – and why, in my opinion, it should be banned. I want to be clear, before I start, that a lot of the fingerpointing towards people who want homophobia to be banned does not apply to me; I am not progressive, I do not come from a liberal, left-wing background; indeed my family itself is conservative – not religious, but conservative all the same. I want no comments denouncing me as a braindead, sensitive child of the modern world, neurons fried by TikTok and radical left-wing social media; I am no such person. I would instead like to offer a good faith argument as to why I think any sort of narrative benefit that homophobia roleplay could ever hope to offer is outweighed by, well, all the negatives it brings. I am perfectly aware that those who roleplay homophobia are not necessarily homophobic. I am also aware that barely anyone nowadays roleplays things akin to what was going on in late Rozania, where Savoyard crusaders were literally crucifying gay characters. That sort of thing simply doesn’t happen anymore, and rightly so. I can’t even recall the last time beyond that that I’ve heard of such a thing, and even then they were viewed as extreme by most. However, I don’t think it’s by any means a bad thing to ban things that should be banned but don’t happen; proactivity when it comes to matters of server legislation is important, because it wards off those who might get tempted. But let us ask; what is the case for keeping homophobia? Well, for one thing, it sort of provides narrative. The recent incident of the Four Princes post, I think, is a good example of why I’ve said ‘sort of’. The post itself, I am told by many Church fleepers, was entirely driven by OOC; such was echoed by other, more senior members of the Church in their responses in different threads and Discords – that it was basically looked down upon by them because it was done OOCly. I must admit, it’s always funny to see the Church accuse others of acting out of character, but that’s beside the point. Another often-quoted reason I see stated as to why homophobia should remain unbanned is simply that it represents adversity; a challenge for people to tackle IRP, or a way for people who have to deal with homophobia irl to deal with it here. But let us be clear. Homophobia has not been eroded and does not happen less in roleplay because of things that have happened in roleplay – instead, it has become OOCly looked down to roleplay homophobia because of the shifting demographics of the server, and is therefore looked down upon in roleplay due to the problem we have with self-inserts. In reality, getting the Church to change its position on virtually anything is near-impossible because all of the decisions are made in private Discord chats. Roleplay plays no part on this, at least where the Church is concerned, and it should stop pretending that it does. Whatsmore, in relation to the overcoming real-world homophobia - Lord of the Craft is not your therapy site. It’s an extremely bad idea to come here looking to resolve some real-life conflict; seek professionals instead of trying to get over homophobia in the real world on a minecraft roleplay server. I think it’s important to look at this through the parental lens, too. Would you let your thirteen year old son join the server and start pretending to be homophobic with a bunch of strangers? I think not (at least I hope not). Also, imagine joining the server as a pink tag, walking into a town and seeing a bunch of people screeching about sodomy (as an NL recently told me happened in their town). It’s a bad look for the server, and this brings me to another point; any reflection of a real-world prejudice on our server makes us look crass and unimaginative. We can come up with better methods of producing narrative conflict, can’t we? To be fair, the only group with any real excuse for being homophobic is the high elves, because of their low fertility rates; homosexual individuals could be perceived as negatively contributing to society. But even this is bogus because elves have like ten children a month and have massive families, so that clearly isn’t adhered to and therefore isn’t an excuse to justify homophobia roleplay. A final point I’d like to make is that people tend to point to homophobia as an example of medieval realism; that’s utterly bogus. We have tanks, magical robots, and mech-limbs. Homosexuality is, to be frank, far more realistic in medieval terms than any of those things – if you wish to battle for realism, do so on the fronts that actually deserve attention. My position is clear: we should flat-out ban all forms of real-world prejudice from the server. It’s basically an informal rule, where the only holdout is homophobia for some reason – we don’t permit real-world racism, but we permit homophobia. Whether or not the Church falls under that category is something I’m a little unsure on; personally I don’t like Church homophobia roleplay because it can only ever be extremely lazy or purposefully overly traditional, but that’s besides the point. I would encourage genuine thought and discussion on this; my understanding is that Llir is planning to hold a community meeting on the matter, and I hope that this can generate some genuine thought beforehand. If you disagree with me, if I’ve missed something out, if I’ve made a mistake, please do say so. have a good day chaps Also, I'm aware that I held a different opinion a few weeks ago, but I've changed my mind since last posting the malaise quote, that does happen sometimes and people can listen to constructive debate

  8. ———«»————————————«»————————————«»——— Lord, The Scrolls teach us not to view the AengulDaenonicks as entities unto themselves, but instead as fragments of the greater whole - of you. Despite what the Scriptures teach, they are at war with themselves; they fight Your designs, they turn your children against each other. They are like men, hemmed in by the darkness of ignorance and sin. Grant them, and us, the ability to burn the darkness; grant us the wisdom to see through the black, and ascend to the light; to act as He wills, not as they believe they will. AMEN. ———«»————————————«»————————————«»——— - Serwa
  9. "They will have the discussion on homophilic matrimony behind closed doors, they will come out and say, 'no, we will not allow man to marry man', and that will be that. They have no intention of seriously considering the topic - that is why they bar outsiders, because they do not want change, and instead want to follow outdated and foolish traditions that are condemned by most normal people, simply for the sake of it.." Yandel angrily rants to Malii, his teacher, before continuing work on his staff.

  11. They come, Serwa wrote, because they fear the growing light. They sense it - they can tell their end draws near, that the reign of the Lich-King will soon end. And those who do not know the source of their damnation are given out to wild attacks. Those who know are more subtle, but we will kill them all the same because they are of the shadow. And all that is required to extinguish the shadow is a single candle - a beacon, even. @Fleeperpriest

  13. In Defence Of Homosexuality This is, mainly, a written response to the recent work written by Monk Edmund Amadeus. I, myself, am not a Priest, a Monk, not even a Nun - simply an elven woman, a Canonist, who believes that homosexual relationships and marriages deserves legality just as much as the standard relationships do. My key reasoning for this is that it is not disallowed within the Scrolls. Though I am aware that this is touched on in the Epistle writte by the venerable High Pontiff Jude II which is referenced in the works of the monk Edmund Amadeus, I will explain my contention with his argument below. I hesitate to argue with such monumental figures, but I believe that where one views flaws and mistakes within doctrine and essays, one must point them out. Consider this not to be a rude dismissal, but instead a good-natured disagreement. ———«»————————————«»————————————«»——— On 'In Response to The Four Canonist Princes' Although the studies of Prince Enrico Amadeus might have been one of good effort, if there is not written that such is not permitted, does not mean one is able to. If it was not for man to lie with a woman, then we all would not be here since the creation of Exalted Horen and St. Julia of Paradisius. Continuously in the scrolls, there is talk of husband and wife, who are we to say after the lives of the Exalted, that we are to tolerate such a breach into the traditional practices and rites of the Church? It is a mistake to interpret a man lying with a woman as 'what should be' - it simply is what usually is, though is not always true.. Love cannot be defined only as the love between a man and a woman - clearly this is not the case, what with the homosexual people who live the same lives as we do, fight the same wars we do, break bread at the same table as we do, and worship the same GOD we do, with the only true difference being that their love is not directed towards women but instead men (and the reverse, of course). It is also silly to claim that if men are permitted to lie with men and women with women that we would not survive. Those who engage in homosexuality are in the clear minority; there is not even a hint of such becoming the norm. We will not go extinct if we legalise marriage between homosexuals. In the past thousands of years there has only been one form of marriage, and now sovereigns who have been appointed by GOD want to make the unnatural marriage legal? I call it absurd, a sin and a stain upon what the Exalted have meant for us to pursue. This has not been done in the name of the subjects of their interest, but for a secular agenda of overruling the boundaries set by our Church. The Monk Edmund Amadeus is right in that for centuries, there has only been one form of marriage. But I would argue that homosexual marriage need not be viewed as 'other'; instead, a continuation of that holy act, of binding two loving individuals together unto death. Love is love; homosexuality should not be viewed as 'unnatural'. As for your remarks towards it being a 'sin and a stain', I would simply reply that the Scrolls bear no condemning words for homosexuality; that its outlaw is an invention of those who have come since, and that their words and beliefs are not law. As for the claims of this being a secular agenda - this is patently ridiculous. Homosexuals, too, can be Canonist; such a law serves to permit them to engage in their faith and their love. Whilst having the nerve of calling others heretics, this makes the slaughter of heretics done by the hands of the rulers who now wish to legalize an act of infidelity absolutely hypocritical. Such legalization may have an impact on the High Pontiff, the Curia and the laity who still adhere to the traditional values. I do not see how legalizing homosexual marriage makes the slaying of Darkspawn hypocritical. Such defines homosexuals as inherent heritics; this, in itself, is a terrible mistake, for a man who loves a man has more than enough room in his heart to love GOD, as does a woman who loves another woman. ———«»————————————«»————————————«»——— I would not dare to write a critique of the Epistle of the Pontiff Jude II; in truth, the Monk Edmund Amadeus restated many of the points written in the Epistle, and thus refuting them would be nought but repition. I implore you, good Monk, to read what I write with an open mind, as I do with what you pen. - Serwa
  14. "And yet," Serwa said (she was in the near vicinity. for plot reasons), "Horen cannot be taken as a direct 1-to-1 blueprint for how we live our own lives, else I would surely be motivated to change gender to become male and rename myself to Horen.. to what degree should his pious life serve as a model for our own? For I see no reason why the line should be drawn at his marriage to a woman."
  15. Upon the wall their husbands kept,

While round the hearth their women wept,

And fugitives murmured tales of wroth,

    Of cities lost to AZDROMOTH...

  16. "Why are Canonists suddenly obsessed with purity? Those weird autobot robot metal-men things in Haense keep on harping on about it too. That's Haelun'or stuff - surely the emphasis is piety, not purity." Yandel frowns, shrugs (humans were odd creatures, at best good drinking mates and at worst slaughtering each other) and keeps on being an alcoholic.
  17. Serwa wept for shame. Redemption was needed.
