  11. ~* Halfling Spiritualism *~ [1] Preface: Halfling Spiritualism differs in that Halflings don’t worship spirits the same way they do with Knox or Billy Bob. Instead, Halfling spirits are considered living forces of certain characteristics and aspects. For example, merrymaking is a positive aspect of everyday life, as such the spirit of merrymaking isn’t a certain person but the force of merrymaking itself. As such, one doesn’t necessarily pray to the spirit of merrymaking, but invokes it with feasts and festivals. Using even more simple terms, one doesn’t need to pray to the spirit of foxes, just by having a symbol of a fox is enough to invoke and respect it. History of Halfling Spiritualism: It is uncertain when exactly did Spiritualism begin to be practiced by Halflings, or who introduced it, though through oral tradition it was around the time of Dunshire. Looking at just a few written records, we know the names of the spirits and how they were invoked, using everyday words in that time; in simple terms the names of these spirits are what they represent. Since then it has been an accepted faith within Halfling society, with some individuals building dedicated shrines to certain spirits. In more recent years, new spirits and notable individuals have appeared, becoming new additions to the list. Traditions and Worship: [2] The way Halflings worship the spirits is the same as you would find in other Spiritualist societies, with shrines, offerings etc. The historical word for Spiritualism is ‘Gāstsiden’ and ‘gāstberend’ for shaman. When praying to a spirit it is imperative that devotees utter the word Lup, as it is the proper way to do so. Sermons and religious festivals are also held in order to appease them. The act of the will of the spirits is slightly different, instead of actively doing tasks i.e. going on a hunt in order to appease to the spirit of it, Halflings simply try to uphold what the spirits represent. Sacrifices vary from individual followers, most Halflings tend to use food, booze and pipeweed as offerings, with some offering mina as a way to get rid of them. One tradition that some Halflings do, in order to appease to specific spirits, is to decorate their homes or certain items with motifs of that spirit. Major Halfling deities: These are the gods Halflings may worship daily Billy Bob, The Great Farmer (note: this is how Halflings view Billy Bob) He is considered the creator of the world and of every The Froggy Pact

A damp endless swamp filled with a light mist is what I've awaken into. The spirit walk was successful and my teacher has brought me to the spirit world. Years ago I had visited this place as a faithful believer, now I walk upon a more spiritual path. As we waited for someone to appear, a loud croak was heard from the treetops, 'twas a Toalak! The beast spoke in the tongue of the spirits, it wanted to carry me so that I may meet its master. As I carefully mounted the beast's back, my teacher said: "Go forth, and I'll be with you in a moment". I nodded at my teacher's words and so the beast began leaping away into the swamp. After a short while we arrived at the base of an enormous pyramid. As I mounted off the beast's back, I thanked it in the tongue of the spirits and made my way atop the pyramid. There they sat, even more toalaks by the sides and in the center it was him; Laklul. "Come forth Breasal Nimblefoot!" Laklul spoke before me, as I made my way to present myself, I kneeled before him. "Your faithful believer has arrived Great Laklul" I said with respect. "I am aware, thus I sent one of my own to bring you to me. Speak, why have you come to me?" He asked with a loud deep voice. "Years ago you gave me a task, to expand your realm and your kin's population, I have done both" "Now I seek to make a deal with you, if you think I am worthy enough" I said to him with feelings of fear, respect and honor in my heart. Laklul laughed with joy, I could tell by the sound. "Then a pact you seek before me? Indeed you are worthy and so it shall be" He said as he extended his finger. "Rise and shake my finger to seal the pact" And so I did, and with that it was all done, as the mist became thicker my teacher and I awakened. LUP'LAKLUL!

  22. *notes would be found posted on various settlement notice boards* [1] Greetings my fellow Gnomes, you may not know me, I am called by many names but you may call me Merwin the Fool. I am but a humble Gnome who lives off the land, recently as I disembarked and explored the new lands of Aevos, I found myself within the company of our fellow Weefolk cousins; the Halflings! After much talk with a fellow Gnome named Tulip and the Halfling Mayor Mimosa, we have come to an agreement for our kind to be able to settle within The Shire! With that I call out to all of you, Gnomes hidden throughout the land, we have a new home for our kind. Come now and let's build a better future for us Gnomes in The Halfling Shire. OOC: So, Gnomes am I right? Why should someone be bothered, they're just Halflings with a different name right? not quite. Gnomes in general folklore, suffer from the "Small peoples" curse, which makes them a blank canvas that's painted differently depending on the story. In other words, whether you call something a gnome, goblin, brownie or smurf, they are all the same small peoples. But that's where the story and modern medieval fantasy come in to differentiate them. So what is a gnome in medieval fantasy? A gnome is a small humanoid creature, often associated with fairies and woodland animals that hides away from anything bigger than itself. So how are gnomes portrayed in LotC? Gnomes, like their Halfling cousins have common ancestors that diverged into different groups. With the first proto-gnomes, being culturally different from Halflings, they diverged a second time to the two gnome groups we have now; Haesseni gnomes (aka your Forest gnomes) [2] and Oblazeki gnomes (aka your Rock gnomes) [3]. With Haesseni gnomes being similar to cultures like Halflings, Wood Elves and Forest Dwarves, having close ties to nature. Whereas Oblazeki gnomes are similar to Mountain Dwarves, preferring to work on various crafts and make technological advancements. Of course that's just an oversimplification, links to their respective culture posts will be given. In more detail: - Gnomes are a bit shorter than Halflings, maxing out at 2ft - Gnomes are more spread out in the world, so they don't have a close knit community (though that could change thanks to you!) - The gnomish religions are two at the moment: the first one being centered around nature worship and its spirits, the second is about The Creator and its avatars - The lack of properness, meaning that Gnomes don't necessarily abide to these traditions/rules - Smaller families - Strong drinking culture with emphasis on brewing various kinds of drinks All in all, more nature driven and secretive than Halflings or Dwarves [1] https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/229158-the-gnomish-script/ [2] https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/205392-culture-haeseni-gnomes-dunnfolk/ [3] https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/206836-oblazeki-gnomes-sons-of-the-hidden-city/?tab=comments#comment-1873762
  23. *far away, in the lands of The Shire, a certain Gnome dressed in blue robes works all night writing* “Finally, I have cracked this mysterious script, a big step in Gnomish history; I hope my kin will appreciate my discovery” *he says as he adds the final details, before heading to his bed* THE GNOMISH SCRIPT, AN INTRODUCTORY GUIDE Priva my fellow Gnomes and friends, I, Merwin the Fool have made a great discovery on Gnomish history. As long as I can remember the elders that I grew up with and the ones I met on my travels, all had these charms made of birch bark. On them, they had strange inscriptions like this: I knew they meant something, but I didn’t know what. So I collected any I could find and worked hard to decode them. After many months I finally cracked the case, the script itself was of Gnomish origin! Upon closer inspection, I also noted that the script was written using charcoal sticks, probably because of the semi-nomadic nature of Gnomes; an easier resource to acquire than making ink and quills. With that out of the way, here’s the decoded script: These letters are all simplified depictions of various plants and bugs, the letter N for example is based off of the nutmeg seed when it’s still covered by its mace. We can also see the frequent use of the symbols: These symbols are used to differentiate words and to start & end sentences respectively, for example: if I had to write down the sentence “Good morning” which is “Bor hag” in Gnomish, I would write it like this Using to begin and end the sentence, and using to differentiate between "Bor" and "hag". The script itself is written on birch bark from left- to-right and up-to-down like most languages, though charms are almost always circles and written in a spiraling way from inside-out. But with our kind closer than ever, we can write like normal instead of spirals. With that all said, I look forward to writing and reading the way our people did ages ago. (OOC: If you want to use this script simply download it in this page: https://www.1001fonts.com/gnomish-font.html . A few tips in order to write better using this script: use lowercase letters, write numbers in words (aka “one” instead of “1”), begin and end sentences with “.”, use “;” to differentiate words and if you’re writing in Gnomish use the dictionary in this post https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/205392-culture-haeseni-gnomes-dunnfolk/ )
  24. *notes would be found all over The Shire of Dunwen* "Lo' my fellow Halflings and Wee-folk, as time has passed in our village ever since we arrived in Aevos not only did we prosper, but so did the lands of Frogtoppia. Now that we have gathered enough offerings for the Patron and protector of Frogtoppia Laklul, we shall give to him as gratitude for giving life to our frog population. I, Breasal Nimblefoot Froggekemp of Frogtoppia, will hereby hold the ceremony for the future of Frogtoppia and The Shire. Be there or be square." (OOC: Event today Friday 4th in Dunwen at 5pm EST, coordinates to Frogtoppia: X 3051.817, Y 14.5000, Z 656.367)
  25. The Legend of the Werehare (art by suviridian at deviantart) by Breasal Nimblefoot Chapter 1 The Beast Lurks Once upon a time, long ago in the days of yore, there was a humble village of Halflings called Flowerburgh. There, the Halflings lived their lives peacefully in their close-knit community, isolated from the rest of the world. There were many great families that had influence over the village, these were the Bronzeberries, Strongbrands, Littlehills, Riverfeet and the Flinthills. Every great family had their specialty within the village. The Bronzeberries were notable for their crafts, be it woodcarving or metalsmithing, while the Littlehills were significant farmers and herbalists. The Riverfeet were known fishermen and merchants, in contrast to the Strongbrands who were excellent hunters and had many members in the Shirewatch. Last, but certainly not least, were the Flinthills; the greatest family of the village were many of their ancestors held the position of Thain. Here we find a notable lad called Liam Flinthill, somewhat short in stature for a Halfling with blonde hair and a clean-shaved face, he is the troublemaker of his family. Not wanting to partake in the village’s politics, he seeks for a peaceful life working in the fields and messing around in the tavern. As Liam finishes his breakfast and packs his lunch, on his way to the fields he is joined by Gardenia Littlehill, a fine lass of fair and red complexion. “Good mornin’ Liam, how’s that noggin of yars afta’ last nigh’? Ya drank like there was nae tomorrow” she cheerfully asked. “I’m fine Gar, I slept like a log when I got tae my burrow. Are ya ready for today’s field work?” he replied with a smile on his face. “Sure am! I hope Dill comes tae help us since he said he’s skippin’ huntin’ today” she exclaimed hopping along the way. As the two made their way to the fields, there they were greeted by Iris Littlehill. “Mornin’ folks, ready tae join us removin’ the weeds?” she asked the pair. As the two hummed in agreement, Dill Strongbrand arrived quickly in the scene “Ah... ah... ah... sorry for bein’ late” he said out of breath. “Ah... gimme a momen’... oof aight I’m ‘ere for the harvest” he said as he gathered his energy. “We’re nae doin’ any harvestin’ today silly, that’s for tomorrow, today we’re removin’ weeds!” Gardenia explained to him. After the trio took their sickles from the field equipment shed, they joined Iris and the rest of the farmers. As the hours passed the farmers removed the weeds from the crops and soil, by the afternoon they were all finished and tired from a hard day’s work. “So, are ya goin’ tae the tavern again Liam?” Gardenia asked as Liam was a quite known drinker. “Nae, I’ll pass this time, I’m goin’ tae my burrow tae sleep an’ wash myself. I’ll stay a’ home tonight.” Liam answered as he was spend from all the field work. Soon the trio had made their ways to their burrows, Gardenia and Dill went to the tavern later on, whilst Liam did exactly as he said. Spending the night reading a book by the fireplace. As Liam was reading the grandfather clock struck thrice, half-alseep he opened his eyes to see what was that noise he heard. “Huh wha- oh it’s just the clock” he said to himself as he got up from the club chair “Lord it’s midnight already? Welp, guess it’s time for bed then” he exclaimed with a yawn at the end. As he was getting ready to head downstairs, a red flash caught the corner of his eye. He stopped and looked at the window, where a small shining red dot was visible. Slowly approaching the window with caution he got closer and closer, to the point where his face was but a few inches away from touching the glass. There in the dark, the dot was still visible and as Liam gazed at it from afar, an outline from the dot was beginning to appear; that of a large humanoid creature. It’s head suddenly moved, and the creature was gazing back at Liam with its shining red eyes. Liam felt a life-threatening fear building up, and when he took a step back the creature ran swiftly into the darkness. Shocked by what he saw, he went to his bathroom to wash his face. After some time, Liam came to the conclusion that his mind was playing tricks or that it was some kind of prank. There, lying on his bed Liam fell asleep after ten minutes had passed. He dreamt of open grasslands, as far as the eye could see, then suddenly the sky turned black and the smell of ash and death reeked. Liam sprang up from his bed “Huh!? Oh, ‘twas just a nightmare” he said to himself after calming down. As Liam was making his way to the fields for the harvest, he saw almost the entire village gathered, shocked by something. When Liam climbed a nearby boulder he saw why the people were shocked; all of the fields were barren, every crop was either missing or half-eaten.
