An unfurled scroll hung from the wall. Holy flame licked up the sides of the paper, while white wisps danced throughout the surrounding air.
“Brothers and Sisters of the Lodge, we have waited for our time to make our stand against The Long Dark! Now, we strike at the hearts of the Great Enemy! May the Allfather protect us, may Mikjáll bear witness, and may our Sagas be told for generations!”
- A Berserkir of Mikjáll hails his Companions before a battle against the foe.
CULTURE OF BATTLE
The Berserkirs of Mikjáll. Companions. Templars. There are many names to describe the stalwart champions of Mikjáll, those who clash against the Long Dark in search of glory, faith, and protection of the realms. Yet, few know of the Sagas; tales of heroes renowned for their capabilities, their overwhelming ferocity when facing the forces of evil. This is where the Berserkirs thrive.
In Sagas recounted in feasting halls, tales of valor and heroism are shared for generations, with new stories being made through the righteousness of warfare. Uninitiated people may think these warriors are boisterous, drunken fools, yet their outward appearance hides complex warriors who seek glory not just through storytelling and fables, but also through their individual acts of heroism, charity, and piety in the Allfather’s name.
With no formal ranking structure, the Berserkirs focus more on the individual warrior, acting independently in battle and not relying on the military group tactics typically practiced within the wider Imperium or its holdings. Not only do they act independently, but they also occasionally work together in groups of companions colloquially named "Vanguards." Yet, when the year is over, the Berserkirs gather at their Lodge, in hopes of providing their companions with tales of glory.
FEASTS AND TOURNAMENTS
Each year, the Berserkirs host tournaments of valor, each trial focusing on different aspects of their warrior culture. Both wits and brawn are tested between companions to strengthen their bonds and resolve. Techniques are perpetually sharpened and their minds honed to make sure no companion grow sluggish, while fresh recruits get to practice new skills together with their mentors.
After the tournaments conclude, the companions feast; each recounts tales of heroism, devouring mighty meals cooked from slain beasts, and drinking barrels of ale to celebrate their deeds and victories. Should any Berserkir wish to undertake a ritual in the name of Mikjáll or Jóviel, all present shall bear witness to their devotion towards their patron Aengul.
