  1. Cir'dian simply passes by no more aware of the circumstance than before. He seems to be humming a merry tune.
  2. Did I ever say they have to be? I said that it's better to heir on the side of caution as opposed to being too powerful IF you are unsure.
  3. The elaboration is necessary to prevent confusion and enable better imagery. There is no boasting in that Shorsand. Though I see your point.
  4. What does it take to be a good mage? ( In no particular order. ) 1) A strong commitment. 2) An understanding of just how difficult it can be at time. 3) Be able to lose. 4) A want to increase the fun for those around you, more than just for yourself. 5) Roleplay Experience. 6) Understand Limitation and a firm grasp on Lore 7) Creativity Strong Commitment Becoming a mage is a very long process in which you need to be aware of the effort it takes. On average a player is expected to post 5 sets of screenshots per week ( Different situations ) as a show that they are indeed roleplaying the progression of their magic. This process will go on up until you reach Tier 4, which takes months to acquire. We must remember that in this time you need to realize that for your early tiers you will lose ( Though we'll elaborate on this in another section.). An understanding of Difficulty Magic is difficult. It is hard to obtain and can even be hard to keep regardless of how much time you've put into it. Mistakes with magic can result in the loss of your magic. As such you need to understand that even as a tier 5 you are held to standards. A single spell can often take an upwards of 2-3 spells, and they must consist of more than just the one lined "Connects to void." "Forms spell" "Throws spell" This is an ideal of example of what you shouldn't do as a mage. There are guides which can help you if you need it. The act of emoting connecting to the void is optional. Though I personally choose to not, in place of it doing what is called a 'Tell'. A tell is something which physically shows when you are connecting to the void. For my character it is a simple eye twitch. A good example (Note this is a T4-T5 mage) "Sibala extends his hand with an open palm, his eyes fixating upon the nearby orc." "The male's hand would begin to shake gently and small particals of blue light would dance about his fingertips, air distorting like heat on the horizon around his palm." "As he exhales a bolt of electricty surged from his palm with a bright flash towards the Orc." Though personally I'd elaborate more on the bolt itself with the following (However, thanks Tentoa for providing the top part) "The bolt crackles through the air towards the orc, emitting a bright light which may leave streaks in ones vision as it whizzes towards its mark." Be able to lose As a mage you are extremely powerful. However that does now make you indestructible. You need to realize that power does not equate to indestructibility. Mages are very frail, to the point where one notable injury (Say being shot in the shoulder.) can prevent the ability to cast entirely. This is due to the need to focus when you are casting a spell (And it's hard to focus with bolt in your arm!). Mages are physically weak. The act of studying for years tends to have a big detriment to the physical ability of a mage. As such you aren't very strong even out of combat. Though muscle acts as a protective layer against strikes as well. You as a mage are more inclined to take mortal wounds from blows than a warrior simply because you've a thinner layer protective your organs and major veins and arteries. You also cannot wear armor (Though you can wield a sword...Just don't expect to be good with it, I recommend full dedication to a swing if you do swing. As in when you swing, a miss will result in the inability to immediately swing again, and instead the weight pulls you towards where you swung, resulting in stumbling.) Make Fun for Others "With great power comes great responsibility" ~ Ben Parker. As a mage you should be at a point where you know that there are more players than just you. And you need to be able to acknowledge that even when you are having fun, others may not be. A mage in particular can ruin a roleplay faster than any other kind of player. If you're going to be getting into an altercation, you need to be aware of how it will affect the people in the area. How will this impact their fun?. On top of this it is ever strongly recommended that you never do a single kill attack. A single kill attack is essentially a way to put an end to the fun of a person. Mages have the ability to create unique environments and scenarios, remember this. Roleplay Experience This can be a tricky thing to think about. And it may draw some hatred against the guide as a whole, however one must remember what comes with magic. As such I strongly recommend at least two months time of the server. This helps to ensure that a player has experienced more than just magic (After all, experience is the best way to create empathy.). Instead of immediately wanting to jump into magic after that 2 week requirement? Look at what else LoTC has to offer, maybe you'll find something you'll enjoy more! Try being a warrior, a farmer, a drunk, a bard, alchemist, a miller, brewer and so on before you get into the huge dedication of becoming a mage. Magic is a very swift way to put an end to a lot of other possibilities. You want to know you're making the right decision. This will also help you to flush out your roleplaying skills, which will definitely help should you decide if magic is still right for you. Know Lore and Understand Limits. You need to understand how magic works! Look into the plethora of help available at your fingertips. Talk to players of mages, talk to the MAT, read the guides and wiki. All of these will help you to ensure you have a strong grasp of what it is you are doing in the first place! Magic has a lot to it, be sure you know what you are getting into. Limitation is a big thing with mages. You have to know just how much your character can do and not press beyond this. This is a huge deal, since if done wrong it will result in too weak a character, or too strong of a character. A balance is key, however if it comes to being too weak or too strong? The better of the two is to be too weak. I suggest with each tier adds a few new spells. You slowly progress into it, complex spells remaining hard, while basic ones can be done to surmount up to the complex one (It's difficult to judge, but that comes with practice.) Creativity To be an effective mage, you need to be creative. Coming up with new spells, forming new ways to approach a scenario and making things fun isn't always a walk in the park. It is highly advised that you look at things from an outside angle. Logic plays into creativity, and it's once more a balancing act. Try not to look at things with a "How effective will this be" approach...But rather a "Is this fun?" approach. You will find this to be a strong overlying theme which will help to ensure that as a mage you are being original, fun, but not ridiculous. Concluding Thank-you for taking the time to read this guide, and I hope it has helped. If you've any suggestions on how to improve it? I would love the advise. How was it? This is my first guide, and as such criticism is strongly appreciated.
  5. I must say that the event they just held in Malinor was one of the most enjoyable events I've partaken in. There were a large amount of people, yet no complaints in OOC. This is an example of why people claiming "THere's to many people to rp!" is bullshit. It went like clockwork. The players MDhegs, Swgrclan and Slic3man (Who is a *****) did a superb job. THey did better than all the recent antag events I've been in ( 3 or 4 now. ) combined, and I think that there can be a lesson to be learned here. That said? Great job guys, keep up the good work ^^
  6. Want to learn how to do what you think you do when you do what you do?

  7. Cir'dian tilts his head, looking over the circle "...My names Cir'dian." he says, lightly scratching the back of his head in minor confusion. "That said? While I am unsure how much of a mages place it is to help discuss these matters? I feel an opinion is just that. And it is in this moment you find yourselves with a decision between the sacrifice of one, and the death of many and possible the forest in its entirety. I've seen the corruption begin to spread to the outlying trees beyond the city of Leumalin. The decision should be obvious, and you've my aid if need be, Callax... Though perhaps it's a good idea to bring Saviticus into this as well, him being the hierophant. " Cir'dian would then nod, beginning to play with his scarf in his boredom "This tree festers, leaving the scent of of death...Can nothing be done to temporarily aid it?" he says.
  8. Using water evo to feign peeing yourself and then using said evoked water to shoot at someone and blind them is pricelessly effective.

  9. Weren't you the one proposing the magic plugin would fix everything in my thread to try to figure out a solution to that issue. Of which you were no help at that I am afraid to say. ( Considering there were no 'Oh but we can't do this' things, and the thread had no qualms against even the removal of the MA altogether.)
  10. How about X-mas carols...It's all the rage in convenience stores right now!

  11. Just as mages are discouraged to instant kill, so are villains as I recall. THe headshot thing is a bit unnecessary, but whatever, if it meets the formalities set forth then I suppose it doesn't matter. Personally I'd have gone for a shot to the back, equally as fatal but it gives a chance for reaction to some degree ( Punctured lungs are bad but not instant kills, for example )
  12. The thought of cheese passes through the mind of Cir'dian as news reaches him. It is however beyond him why anyone would bother to bother telling him in the first place, Cir never having met the man. He shrugs and wanders off whilst humming a merry tune.

  18. (( Best of wishes to you man, good luck!)) CIr'dian gazed to the dwarf, looking down briefly before nodding. He simply waved goodbye to Kardel, the fresh claw marks buried deep into his left cheek likely being new to those around him. Cir'dian turned, and then made his way off.
  19. This is inherantly flawed. If someone makes a peaceful character, they'll still be forced into such situations, and as such your statement is null.
  20. Cir'dian can be seen to pause, eyes swiftly scanning through the contents of the paper before a faint smirk appears over his features. He reaches upwards, grasping onto the paper as he then pulls it from the wall. Looking down briefly to it, Cir'dian's right eye twitches as he inhales a calm breath, a darkness forming at the corner of the paper as water is soaked into it. He maintains this until the paper is completely soaked, right eye twitching once more as the paper seems to take on a new sheen. Cir'dian adjusts his grip on the paper before slamming it from corner to corner between his hands, the frozen over paper fragmented as it then drops to the ground. Cir'dian smirks faintly, shaking his head as he adjusts his grip on his staff before simply turning and making his way down the road. The water within the paper dissipating as he takes his leave.
  21. It's official...High elves are the new stoners. THey have a PIT of acid.
  22. So...Where to start here. Aah! I know. Let's talk about the people who claim that the plugin will fix everything and PVP will be totally RP fair. Back in Aegis we farmed for skill with the plugin, people didn't wait to get their skill up through rp training ( Rping anything did absolutely nothing for training, you just rpg style hack and slash it.). (And the claim that a proficiency point system of time thing only means that older players who may not do things as they should roleplay, still get to reap the benefits. )The fact of the matter is that there is nothing beneficial from the plugin beyond another chunk of complexity that just added more mediocrity to the server. The plugin was pure luck as well, there was less skill in PVP with it. The human mind is far more elaborate than any computer or script we can make...So why not actually use it instead of trying to stop using it in an attempt to replace it with a computer oriented system? Alright, lets talk about other more small details. PVP default results in dullness, the default PVP in aegis was tolerable since we weren't all focused on hating each other rply. There was no racist oren, no white rose to pick and choose who they want to kill. THere was an overall evil force which typically distracted international tension between races and put forth more focus on the more deadly enemy. THat said? People whined that there was no nation tension! Now... I play a crippled mage. But lets forget the mage part adn just focus on the crippled aspect. I am told I am a pretty good PVPer, right? So my crippled character beats the living daylights out of a player who is rply perfectly healthy and strong, but not a good PVPer. People are not fond of this sort of thing. Back in Aegis, you didn't walk around in armor, you put it on at the last minute RIGHT Before the fight occurred. That's bad rp in general, as was a lot of the roleplay in Aegis purely due to the newness of the server and concept to many people. So lets talk about food. You don't deprive the OOC community of minecraft based food, we tried it, and it failed. Food was so scarce that every single person barely skimmed by and many died because they couldn't find food quickly enough (Which needs to be extremely common.) I have yet to meet an Aegis player who wants to revert back to default of pvp. It was a terrible system which was both restrictive and mediocre. Population dropped due to the lack of an interesting event to hold curiosity, not because of the shift from PVP to RP. I don't hate pvp, I enjoy it and go to server specifically made for it as opposed to coming here to beat the living **** out of people. We tried the plugin methods, they failed, yet again we try because there is so little people who truly were present for the entirety of both systems, and who still have yet to experience the full extent that PVP default has. Okay, mages get default rp right? Well what about when our magic plugin is done... Well then we don't get magic default because people will ***** and whine about it. That's all this community seems to do anymore. Our RP system works, why change it? I love this server, it has managed to keep my interest for about two years now, but when we are forced to PVP default, and BOTH parties must agree to RP in place of i? that is when I am leaving this server and finding one truly deserving of the right to call themselves a pure and serious roleplay server.
  23. Cir'dian raises his brow, eyes surveying the crowd as he rests on a bench with hands in his sleeve and his large staff propped against his shoulder. He looks down for a moment, taking in a deep breath before looking back up with a warm smile as he sees Khel respond. Cir then looks to the roben figure, his pale skin evident as he then opens his mouth to speak. "It is in this recent string of events that the divide has grown into a fissure. While the Mali'aheral have remained in their current state of things for many decades, the recent division between Mali'ame and Mali'ker saddens me. I recall in Kalos back when we lived amongst each other, conversing freely and sharing this culture. I am married to a Mali'ker: And I would adore the privilege to return to socializing with those I have so long considered dearest friends." Cir'dian pauses, nodding to Khel with a warm smile. "I may be young...And I may be the crippled son of the late Salamandra. However through the haze that has by so many been called insanity, there is always the path which shines through. And it is in this light that even I can see just how truly ridiculous the disputes within our race are. I read of a time when all elves were a united and close knight group. It is returning to that, which should be made our prime focus. The humans are now at war with the dwarves, and I would not be surprised if they should fall. Leave them to their fate, ours follows a much more in depth thoroughfare. The end is split between two realities, one of chaos, or one of unified peace." Cir looks over the crowd, sighing as he returns to his silence. He adjusts the robes known to several as those belonging to Salamandra, resting his hands within his lap.
