  1. This 'event proposal' is my idea drop. The scale of this is unrealistic and I have no expectations that it could be achieved at its most awesome level in the current timeframe, however scale down or leave it for next year. If a team of Event people really wanted to run with this, something could be put together in time though. I believe in you. What is important in this event is reminiscence as an opportunity to invite past players back to the server, even if only for a few days, anticipating that some will convert to playing again. So the event setup is just as important as keeping players informed about what is to come, particularly in the form of a mailout to all email addresses of LotC forum accounts. @Tythus probably needs to be on board for that to happen. Hence the intentional tie in to this time of year as distanced past players won't mind so much being invited to take a look at LotC again if its a festive celebration of our past. 12 Days of Christmas The concept is super simple. Every day there is something new to take a look at. Its like an LotC advent calendar. The IG setup is the sudden appearance of a mushroom house which has little inside it but many locked doors that appear not to lead anywhere. 12 to be precise. And at a designated time each day one of the doors closes and another opens, revealing a portal traversing space and time. Each day players can come and travel through that day's portal to a multiverse location. Some suggestions for destination will come later. An explanation is not entirely neccessary, though in this community it it usually sought after. So I'll happily get specific using someone that I know well, Elindor The Volatile. However a wizard from another realm altogether could be used instead, as Rasmot was introduced all that time ago. Seen as a return for me is at about 1% likelihood, this is a good opportunity for me to explain away what's happenned. Elindor dissappeared some time ago to traverse through time and space to another moment in the Universe which he believes requires him. Note: I have been playing Elindor as wholly believing himself to have travelled forwards through time previously, but in a manner as to call into question his grip upon reality. If LT decide that there is no way ever for someone to move through time, that's cool. [Stole this pic from an amazing artist on pinterest. I have no regrets] ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Once a scholar, teacher, winemaker; a master of minds continued to press upon the boundaries of magical possibility, ever challenging the Void to rend his form assunder in an effort to overcome Time. Thrusting himself through centuries in an instant, the highly fortified mind of Elindor began to fragment. The wizard clung to memories with vivacious desperation in a bid to claw back his identity. His hermitage abode progressively reflected the intentional compartmentalising of his own consciousness, housing little more than bookshelves and doors. Until his will could withhold no longer and he abandoned his home to once again become a philosophical wanderer. Inexplicably the mushroom hideaway appeared out of the Void without any trace of its inhabitant. A sign hung upon the door reading "Merry Krugmas". ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Twelve Doors Each door contains a portal that leads to a location within 'memory'. These can be memories of past and future, as the timeline Elindor was last in may be centuries in the distance. So not every area would need to be from a past map, but obviously having many of them honouring the past of LotC creates a warm nostalgic vibe. Perhaps the last door could be a snapshot of a future realm...? Whether the portal is transporting travellers across realms (and through time) to a past location, or if the area has just been created like a vivid memory is not fully explainable. But every area is absent of the original inhabitants. It might be interesting to throw in an event creature or dragon here or there too. But mostly the intention would be to copy memorable areas from old maps and allow our players to explore them once again (or for the first time). The area sizes should be limited so as not to ditract too much from the server's normal roleplay. In terms of locations, AlKhazar in Aegis was very important to Elindor's emotional past. Aside from that I really don't mind where the other doors go. Practically just use whatever maps there is easy access to old backup files for.
  2. Do you have a separate explanation for the previous Hollows that created random structures and entities by telepathically reading those who entered its presence? Is there a situation in which this happens, rather than the Hollows which you have detailed? They were typically from Nodes upon which Mages had established themselves so it could have something to do with the tampering of the energies put out by the Node prior to it resulting in a Hollows.
  3. I like having side writing projects. Coming back to an unfinished sentence that reads "The darkness within quickly grew impenetrable". Story of my life! #JK #notdepressed

  4. The limit at T3 is the strength of a regular person. So in terms of what to be doing in combat, shy away from lifting any more than a (strong) person would be able to.
  5. This still doesn't seem balanced enough and would only be appropriate as an event playable creature. For its strengths to be all improvements upon the physical aspects of a normal player and its weaknesses to be only external influences, the benefits are way too badass. Adding to this that death just means reset and go again... I am not for the lore.

    Curse Words

Swear words are often a way of accentuating emotional distress, adding character to your speech, or simply a demonstration of a lack of education. With a wealth of history throughout LotC there isn't much excuse for resorting to the first swear word that comes to one's mind while writing a sentence. So to enrich your arsenal, this thread will compile swear words that are useful within LotC and are not particularly race specific. If you have submissions please post them. Whether or not they are added will be entirely within my control so if you don't like it go suck Silvos' sweatpatch. Useful Swear Words Plough, Ploughing A commoners term for the act of sexual intercourse used as a common curse word for just about anything. Scar, Scarring, Scarrer Derived from the blah word “Skah” (similar meaning to plough) though in common it refers to the act of injuring someone without having the honour to kill them in battle. Dank Feces. Is a reference to racial prejudices against Dark Elves. In certain circles the word has had the opposite affect and describes something respected within popular culture. Spook Someone or something which continues to pester despite seemingly having been dealt with. Kha-bait A person whose personality is so unusual that one may expect them to have inter-species relations. Hobknob, hobknobber Male genitalia that is below the average size. Derived from the uncommon term for halflings: ‘hobbit’, and the shape of a door handle that may liken to the end of male genitalia. Vilar From the Elven word ‘valah’ meaning human. This is someone who demonstrates the opposite of valor, embodying all the downfalls of humanity: foolish, gullible, quick to switch allegiance. Bells, Lady Bells A woman’s breasts. Unconventionally "Archmage Bells" or "Arch Bells" can be used for the same body part that is of remarkable size and/or visual quality. Edgy Someone who makes incredible efforts to display superiority of character that they are an embarrassment. Nether, ie “What the Nether?” The realm of origin of all dark and hideous creatures, and the eternal resting place of undead. Poltroon A man who can be described as base, dishonoured, and a coward Vardak An exclamation for when things take a turn for the worse meaning 'rotting filth', though if you got to know him he was quite a reasonable guy. Enjoyable Expletives for the Gentleman or Lady By Blundermore’s Bollocks (or by Blundermore’s beard) The source of the thing to have caused such shock is assumed to be supernatural. The phrasing of "by [name]'s beard" expresses surprise and can have interchangeable beard owners depending on said person's notoriety within the culture of the speaker. Godfery’s Garters Referring to one’s private region. Great for use during formal engagements where vulgar language is unwelcome. Insufferable Lich Someone who makes one’s skin crawl at the thought. Their presence may be a drain upon the life force of those around them even though this is not something liches do. Loathsome Banshee A woman whose voice brings suffering. Her Whispering Isles A ladies genitalia Son of a Druid A bastard whose only parenting must have come from a tree, as demonstrated by their actions.
  7. The desire for fancy name tag grows...

  8. @CaptainSheepyDid you have any pics of Rasmot's Pooper? Couldn't find any in old albums.

  9. If you want some script writing or similar done drop me a line. I don't have a computer beefy enough to edit anything, so I am handicapped to help any further than planning. However for Christmas public holidays I could take a work computer and edit if there's a need. I'd just have to offline edit to work around slow renders. But is doable if you have some media collab ideas.

  12. It may also aid in explaining why when shifting from one realm to another there were differences in the passing of time, and inconsistencies of the calculation of dates. As there were always a few fluctuating dates and changes in how long days and weeks were as we moved around.
  13. If anyone is looking for an explanation of my lack of presence: I've been making babies. 2 of them coming in March. Daddy's been busy so you'll have to take care of yourselves.

  14. The original Origin Lore is the thing upon which all of LotC has been made. For some pimply little **** to rewrite the Ancient Origins Story now is a requirement to check one's privilege. While it was never ideal Origin Lore because it was basically a copy of the Genesis story, that is FINE. And it has been said for 5 years that the exact origins aren't clear and you are welcome to believe it or believe something else. The best part about it though is that it is so simple and easily understood in our western world where the same story has been heard ad nauseum.
  15. MC1.10 has decided that my laptop is not worthy. Have been thinking about using my TA through forum roleplay. If you are likely to be in a tavern and would like to see if Elindor would teach you, send me a PM. You will have to prove yourself in character though.

Nothing wrong with teaching through forums. At least people can reply when possible. May not be more live action but, you have more leisure.

  16. The void is the right conduit to connect one mediator with another. However there is no reason why Clerics could not receive the same prophetic dream, Shamans would not enter the same dreaming together, or Druids be joined to the same comprehension of the elements. You could literally explain this away with whatever pseudo spiritualism required by the user. Void is just the most straight forward seen as the connection to the void begins with the mind becoming a void-like expanse of blankness, thus finding another's mind within that meditative state is not so difficult, even if you aren't a mage. Mental magic literally can do this lore already, however I don't see any reason that powerful thinkers wouldn't be able to do something like this together regardless of their magical ability.
  17. MC 1.10 seems to crash within 2 seconds. Until a new patch that pulls less resources through Java Runtime is released, Elindor is hurtling through time and space

  18. Soulstones have never really been explained. At all. Ever. In that video is just what I was told by the Lore Team. The difficulty with trying to pin down what soulstones do is that they change as our plugins do. The use of the soulstone is purely for OOC uses. So explaining in roleplay doesn't serve a huge purpose, aside from making an unhealthy attraction to that SS. If you experience strange feelings while using your SS, see your doctor.
  19. I have tried logging in briefly a few times, but for me it just isn't happening anymore. This is no longer a place for me. But that isn't to stay that I have stopped thinking about the community and universe of the Lord of the Craft. I often wonder what Elindor and his friends throughout the years would be up to now. But whenever I attempt to reconnect with that experience it is a shadow of the past. For two reasons. One is that myself and my character have advanced too far that trivial activity goes against what matters to the character now, and also that the mystery and exhilaration of uncovering your own story within the Lord of the Craft is gone. When I reminisce of the time when I became hooked on this server there is one thing that stands clearly defined to me. The Antagonist gave my presence on the server meaning. And the reason for this is because the intentions of Iblees were at once mysterious and generic enough that my character could design their own meaning to the war and how they fit into it. There are many points to do with Antagonists and their place in building a larger roleplay environment, but it is rather like the Brexit. Most people will zealously discuss large world changing points for which they know very little but feel very strongly about, however I have a personal perspective in which there is an undeniable and tangible relationship between the large concept and my own reality. And for Lord of the Craft, the Antagonist permitted me an avenue through which I could discover the world of Aegis in search of understanding. And I feel that without a globally influencing story concept, players are forced into domestic roleplay which relies on friendship groups (alienating newcomers) and quickly stagnates. Freely Interpreted Since then I have witnessed that later attempts to create an antagonist have been largely lead by Event Teams who seemed hellbent on ensuring everyone was made aware of the amazing storyline they had created. There was little to no mystery as most events were saturated in exposition. And while you can't beat the simplest antagonist story ever (Iblees is literally satan) of an Aengul that seeks the destruction of mortals through the corruption of some and the annihilation of all; my sentiments go towards those who do try to resurrect such simple perfection as they inevitably face endless obscenity. However we can still create something that is unique in circumstance while repeating the successful themes of the past. Star Wars blatantly did it, so why not? So moving forward towards a global enemy that creates as much mystery (without attempting to solve it on behalf of all players) as well as presenting the opportunities for smaller stories that build (rather than retract from) the overall impression of an incalculable opponent... my current suggestion leans upon the next important point. PVE For Story, Not Gameplay PVE is player vs Environment, just in case you aren't fully aware. It stems from such story telling as Indiana Jones in which while his goal appears simple, every step he takes through a forbidden temple seems to provide new opposition. And when I say this I don't mean puzzles or event areas. These are great, and I have loved finding previous event areas in which word puzzles or references were involved, though many event areas end up being intended for one use and forever afterwards are pointless. I mean using existing mechanics of minecraft to help further the independent creation of story. Enderman start spawning. Walkers of the Plane Of course we will want to forget about Enderman the way Minecraft has them with the End and their Eyes leading to a portal and all that stuff. However their basic mechanics create an easy platform from which to introduce a playable antagonist that can freely represent itself by spawning naturally, as well as be manipulated for larger scale interactions. Yup. This is the bit where the backstory comes in. Walkers of the Plane, or Enderman, (because you are in denial if you expect our player base not to put that name upon them the instant they see them) are from a plane of existence not far removed from the Void. Their homeland is endless arid lands of void sky and blemished land in which the occasional fallout from the Void can have devastating affects. A place in which no mortal descendant would find any pleasure living as there is nothing of significance to be found there but dirt. The inhabitants are a creature possibly birthed from the Void itself, made manifest by mere thought. They are without specific shape and individuality, only the form of a humanoid for ease of living. They communicate by telepathy over line of sight, only using vocal queues by way of bringing attention to themselves for the sake of establishing a telepathic communication. Being no strangers to The Void, all Walkers are adept in Void Translocation as much as a man would know how to use a knife to cut something. So much so that they are capable of stepping into and out of the Void for means of transportation. In many ways they could be far beyond mortal evolution in their society, however their simplicity of life makes them completely without technology. Being telepathic, knowledge is shared through being around one another, and so no desire to extend knowledge exists, nor any means for education necessary. They are incredibly intelligent, and yet incredibly simple. All well and good so long as they remain where they are. The Story Catalyses For whatever reason their land has been tainted. The Walkers primary diet is of a moss that grows freely upon the soil of their land. They have never grown crops or cultivated livestock, partly because nothing can thrive in the environment of their land, and partly because they value the work of farming and herding livestock as base and crude; the kind of thing animals do to survive. However with the taint spreading across their land the food supply is scarce, and perhaps the taint inherently spread into them also. Regardless, they must branch out in search of other forms of nourishment. And so The Walkers find their way into the realms of Mortals. Enderman as we Know First arrives the tall and slender simpletons. Because the Enderman in their society have advanced beyond pointless forms of governance, instead unanimously electing a dictatorial leader of the most capable mind in the realm, The Walkers are divided by birth into two class groups: the workers and the thinkers. Workers do that which is required to keep society functioning. Their bodies are more inclined to work. They are taller, slimmer, and their minds are less developed for complex thought. These are the Enderman that are sent to the mortal realm first to find alternate forms of food. Upon arriving, these Enderman go about sampling all that they can discover, bringing it back to their realm for experimentation to see if it is a worthy food source. Whether mineral, plant, or animal. A conflict arises in that mortals feel themselves far higher in importance than that of a cow or mushroom. However to the Walkers, all creatures that are unable to communicate through telepathic means are grunting simpletons to be subdued and eaten. Not particularly tastily, but if required. And so, on their endeavors to discover, any opposition discovered would naturally be treated with great hostility. And thus, the first interactions with Enderman are bound to create hostility between races, as no doubt there will be casualties on both sides. The Advanced Beings The Walkers of the Plane that you should be wary of, however, are the shorter ones (players). Their evolution has shown them as superior in mentality, not requiring such physically capable forms in their vocation as thinkers. They basically look like human shadows. The same size and build, but with no features to speak of. These creatures are far more capable of independent thought, and if they were to start emerging in the mortal realm, it means that the laborers have either found something worth investigating, or have faced enough opposition to welcome their wrath. Player Walkers have little physical ability and in a sword fight will be at a major disadvantage. However they can just as easily step into the Void and emerge elsewhere, flight being their preferred method of survival. Why Are You Here? That all depends on how the masses respond to the presence of these newcomers. While the mortals would be viewed as no greater than cattle, there may be a few among them will telepathic abilities that could realign ill intent to peacefulness. Or, if the reception has been that of hostility, the Walkers may view the mortals as an enemy that requires crushing so that the world can be occupied by themselves. Better still, this cattle could be enslaved by some simple mind control techniques. They have proven to have skills at gathering food for themselves, and are easily influenced to do so for others. What matters most is how people decide to build their own story. The mystery to be solved is what lies before all players for them to make of it their own adventure. And how it plays out, well... that is or this next generation of Lord of the Craft to decide. There are of course minor details that can reshape how Walkers can be played which can be decided by staff, or through further consultation with me. If you wish to delve deeper there is much depth to be uncovered in the potential here for simple mechanics and good play, rather than highly moderated dictated backstory. What matters is that all players can find meaning from it and have their experience grown by the presence of an antagonist, instead of a mere disturbance to peace. To be honest I don't care what happens or if the idea of a global protagonist is accepted. I just want to know that the Lord of the Craft will live on beyond its Iblees years.
  20. Man, what's going on with the website right now? Is there an attack or something? Did Tythus forget to pay the bill?

    1. Space

      Space

A cable got cut, so they had to fix it. I believe it's just a temporary fix atm, and in a few days there will be a permanent fix.

  21. Frost Witches? I don't really think they are particularly "dark" in this sense. They are for the sake of having a Archetype for their magic, but I really don't think they would fall into this category. That's sexist, yo
  22. Elindor feels himself slipping further and further into the hypnotic poster. Grappling with his reservations, the wizard's incredible well trained mind begins to slowly melt before the halfling that appears to dance before him against the splendour of rainbows. Exhausted, he tears his eyes away from the poster, a weight instantly lifted from his consciousness. Even as he walks away mumbling something about being elite and too special snowflake for all that the afterimage of a dancing halfling plays upon the peripheral of his senses. (edited for grammar cause I am a stickler)
  23. I think I may have had part in the other idea of which Tythus speaks. Except that one was a daemon that pretends to be The Creator or any aengul to which praise is offered. His intention was to inflate his own god complex and to see how far he could push mortals to do unreasonable things in the name of their deity. But I was writing on behalf of someone who had certain intentions to create a new cleric magic that basically did whatever they wanted, so it was never going to work out. Whether or not you wish to share it with the rest of the class, The Lier should DEFINITELY have a more direct intent. Besides just power. Power is a means. Why does he want it?
