  1. Enough time might've passed. We'll see if I can unbusy myself enough for this mottley crew

  2. We've drifted, you and me. So I'm closing the tab on chrome. I expect I'll be seeing less of you around without that little home you've had on my work computer. Stay well. It's not me, it's you.

  3. What I do in my bedroom is nobody's business. If it is of any benefit, The Arcane Mage traversed great expanse of space (and even into another dimension as it turns out) to arrive at the Mages Tower of Asulon long before anyone else arrived there. Somehow he managed to locate it because of the immensity of the Void Node there. Not sure how that works out for you, but in terms of long range, the only thing you can do is aim based on collapses or overlaps in the Void that already have a connection in reality. And of course is ludicrously dangerous. But it has been done!
  4. *with mouth agape* I can't believe I missed the move to Athera on THIS calendar
  5. Elindor appears from Creator knows where "Intriguing that you of all people should be immovable from jilted memories. Do you then deny that an intention to restore the old ways, that you clearly value over the present, is a poor thing? "Magic has changed. Mortals have changed. Wonderment and fear is gone from the innocent eyes of Aegians, and all consider themselves greater than their worth. You should not be coupled with them Mithras. Be a part of the solution. Stand with those who seek to resurrect the old ambitions. Even if it fails, there is no harm in a noble vision."
  6. I'm a bit confused why Guides are now a locked thing. I know that the overabundance of guides was a bit much, but you've now got people who aren't experts on a thing writing their guide, for which the guide already existed. WHY?

I agree. To give the mentor so sort of exclusiveness or something?

      Guides are a locked forum?

      That's dumb.

  8. Suddenly my interest in this has returned.
  9. Not sure if Moot made it clearer about why I don't have good feelings about a shade doing this. That is: aura is produced by the using up of mana, so if someone is burning through mana really quickly then they are producing an excess of aura. If the Shade does this shift thing themselves then they essentially do this jump and then have a huge amount of aura that turns into shadows that they use to recreate adult anime. Don't give me that look, you know they do. In many ways any conventional void magic used by a Shade gets a bit OPy because their source of energy isn't mana, its aura. So they can do a high end normal spell and keep fighting. But what this does with your aura seems to have a far larger impact on generating aura than the usual fireball/magic missile. Personally I'd really like to see VoidiWalking have another go. I thought that that was a really good bit of blinking lore and the only reason it got denied was because blinking was considered OP.
  10. I am worried about the outcome if a Shade 'shifted'. They'd have burnt through so much mana that they would have a HUGE amount of shadows to work with almost instantaneously, and they have just moved from right in front of me to the other side of the room. Distance enough to not get cut with my pointy stick and still do their tendril thing on me.
  11. My feedback whenever lycans or vampires come up is always the same: Why a werewolf? You can achieve the exact same thing without adhering to real life folklore. What I am saying is take the principles of the lycan tales and apply them in a unique and LotC flavoured way. What this achieves is players do not automatically bring in their OOC assumptions about it. As in if you were to have a lycan, regardless of what lore about them is approved, players who interact with one will use their previous understandings to try and deal with them. Whereas if you took the principles of it and applied it in a different way, like perhaps a jabbernack rather than wolf. A ferocious humanoid lizard beast wandering around is not going to face the same OOC troubles as the preconceived ideas of lycanthropy. Personally I am not a fan of lizardmen compared to werewolves, but it serves as my example.
  12. Quite a large number of our creatures that already exist are not much threat. http://wiki.lordofthecraft.net/Creatures But many of the monsters I have seen aren't listed as creatures because they are instead rare occurrences. Like the giant cockerals and that hydra. Commonly found creatures could be a nice thing. Just for someone to make something interesting to mess with whilst on wanderings. Like the Marked Men when they do their initiation in the swamps. There's always some weird-ass monsters coming out to attack the poor lads. And there could always be the possibility of having a fairly simple coding for custom mobs to randomly spawn. Take a wolf, give it a nameplate of "Strigzgof" and customised health and hit values on a minutely low spawn chance.
  13. I'm not totally sure that just being a mage has enough of an impact to alter your biology at a genetic level. And if so, you would need to have been doing magic for a real long time, surely. In many ways I would be preferring that much of this lore remains hidden and the details divulged to those who consider their character qualifying (child of two master mages). Because when people know they can invent a character who drains mana from others they will suddenly be romantically interested in another mage. How coincidental.
  14. I don't know why it hasn't been stated clear enough in response to this thread yet, but I guess I'll be the one to do it. There will be no more playable races added. Decision made a fair while ago now and will remain in place until the game is altered radically enough to need it. Which it is not. Not even vaguely. So regardless of whether new race lore is amazing or terrible, it simply will not happen. What CAN happen is new creature lore. If it can be approved as a creature that exists then you can request for players to be able to play one. Which generally is completely fine. So if you go down the route of creature, make it far less humanoid to be considered for new creature lore approval.
  15. I find intellectual copyright quite interesting on this site because really, no one owes the original author anything. When it isn't an accepted thing though it does kindof hold some of the original owner's copyrights. But really... not. Content Ownership By uploading any content to The Lord of the Craft, you are handing the copyright ownership rights to us, and permitting us to use that content in other products and/or on the same product as we wish. This includes, but is not limited to: characters, character names, biographies, lore, images created by yourself and anything created in the video game 'Minecraft. Any content not created by yourself, but uploaded by yourself should be fully credited to the original owner. We do not take responsibility for the content that you upload, therefore, any copyright infringement in your content is your own issue, not the issue of The Lord of the Craft, So let's all just carry on. There is a courtesy that could have been done to the original writers, but you're all just cogs in the ideas machine of LotC, so really that courtesy has no value except unrequired kindness.
  16. As there is no regulatory body for magic I am never in favour of magic types that are a bit fringe like this. People are already well prepared to make complaint that magic is too complicated and has too many forms. In my mind something has to be unique while fitting in to canon, accessible to many, and be obvious once someone points it out (as in filling a hole that was not previously known to be there).
  17. Unfortunately if this lore is doing anything it is restricting what is already a widespread form of magic. There are a couple hydromancers that only do ice because it is what they know culturally (being raised in icy landscapes) and is what they learnt. It would also be possible that a sorcerer attempting to evoke water drops only evokes snow because of their prior understanding or emotional state. There might be merit in creating a divide between water and ice in terms of number of magic types learned. But there isn't really any restriction on how many magic types you can learn, so it doesn't achieve anything. The only goal I can see from this is to stop random hydromancers from evoking ice. Which they probably already do. If any specification should be made (IMO) it is not to make separate lore (though perhaps a guide for how to do ice could be helpful as clearly there are slightly conflicting ideas) but to identify it as an advanced technique. Many magic subtypes have advanced skills. Ice is definitely one for water evocation, but perhaps that hasn't been clearly stated.
  18. Welp... time to recommence post mortem brain experiments.
  19. I don't believe that it fits within this fantasy setting. Overall I think you should just be thinking "what am I trying to achieve" and then examining your method. I really fail to understand why or how using blood to achieve the same thing that you can do with your hands (or an abundance of other magics) is anything short of horrifying. I am not seeing the "why" of this magic.
  20. I would like to think that the premeditation goes back further into the creation of the doll. So it has to be more than just similar physical attributes of the victim to the doll. You should have to collect some hair or a part of their shirt or something. That way in whatever weird Soul Puppeteering way you've assigned that doll for the victim (and could perform any other part of the magic in the lead up to said ritual). I like that Soul Puppeteering can be given a final outcome. Its always felt to me to be far too fringe and a bit useless. This is fun and freaky as **** for everyone else. Be cautioned though, the horror themes that are inherent to such characters will mean that the perceived graphic description of violence is escalated. Not that you would be graphic intentionally, just that the one's on the receiving end of (let's just say) a doll stabbing will have a more vivid vision of the activity. So you will have to be very cautious with how graphic your details are, and be keeping up an OOC dialogue for consent.
  21. I don't understand how there isn't already categories for Arcane Magics. There is. Personally I would place Conjuration under "Evocation" as all the same rules apply which means there is 3. Alteration, Evocation, Illusion. There is many pages of which I read the first and last, so could you maybe explain how this makes any difference? If its just about becoming more "masterful" of certain branches, or if it is purely roleplay type things, I love it. But it doesn't need to come into contact with the OOC organisation in any way. You can define what a sorcerer is, and what a wizard is. Your explanations are similar to my own mindsets and I referred to "mages" as sorcerers on several occasions to be more specific. But its IC terminology which belongs in an IC situation only. Equally I think "warlock" needs to be a more common term for someone who has a natural affinity to magic from birth (ie has done little to study it but just "does" it). But these are IC names and have no effect on the OOC structure of magic. I believe Arcane to be the simplest of all magic types to understand in their current structure. If any divergence one might branch the magics of the mind together (mental, cognitism, telepathy) and then slot the remainders in to similar categories, but then what more does that achieve?

  23. On the guidelines to lore it suggests not to propose anything that is already covered by existing lore. We already have Liches. Though admittedly, it may be hard to track lore down for it. As another method for creating a Lich (because the PG-ing that came from them meant it getting shutdown) I think its nice. This could be a good way of re-introducing them. Particularly because they are destroyable by brute force like any brittle bone, while for some reason the players of Liches seemed to think their bodies invincible.
  24. Not exactly what the wiki says (cause the wiki I wrote based off of Asulon & Anthos Void Nodes) in terms of Explosions being your regular kind of pure energy explosion that destroys matter in the natural world, and Hollows only being a possible outcome of an implosion (the more likely outcome being the Node just disappears altogether). If this is one of those "well I wrote this and I'm an LM" moments then... update the wiki entry. But more importantly, 2nd last line is discretion, not digression.
