This server has a giant issue of a false Dichotomy. For the past three years, we've had two sides of an argument ranting and raving about how one side is looking out for self-interest, and are generally very bad people as a whole. I’m posting this because I’m asking genuinely: What the hell?
A dichotomy, in definition, is an attempt at representing two idealisms or even objects as being wholly different from one another. We've seen this multiple times here, and none greater than: “RP Vs PvP.” So I’m here to make a case for the fact that both sides aren't entirely different, and I’ll present my ideas as simply as I can.
RP default is the action of typing out, or rolling and considering a reply based on said roll or equal character strength. It is the manual version of PVP, and provides a similar playing ground with the singular difference of the fact someone with a better communicative skill can outwit/outtype the opponent, or in cases Power Game.
PVP Default is the action of clicking, and aiming on other players sprites with the intention of ending a conflict through automated means which would end itself quicker then such a thing like the above which may lead to either an unwanted ending, or an undeserved one. It provides a level playing field.
A note between both of these is that they are the same action reversed and divided and scrambled out of proportion to be called something different, they are automatic, and they are manual. They are the same device in different settings with the intention of each being the conclusion as they/it should be.
The dichotomy in this situation is the idea that these two things are so different as to be unrecognizable to the other party in the event of conflict, so I ask as I said before. What the hell is the issue?
Going by the fact I've never driven a car, I can’t attest to a comparison in that vein which might fit this dichotomy. I can say, however, that some people prefer doing things the harder way, manually. When someone with a clear knowledge of computers wishes to download a modification and is given the opportunity to either go through the base installer and do it in an automated fashion, will he? No, he will not, but will he encounter more issues in doing so? maybe so, it all depends on the software at play and the proficiency of both devices in the works of it. Does this discount the person who clicks a few buttons, and gets the job done through automated means? I don’t think it does.
So, whenever one of you discounts one side of an argument such as “RPvsPvP” as being subjectively wrong or just incredibly thick-headed, realize both of you garner the same conclusion, and just go through slightly different means, and that arguing over the same conclusion is just incredibly dumb as a whole.
I hope this post wasn't too incredibly stupid, and I hope it may have even been some constructive feedback. Back to halfway inactivity.
For those of you who can't be bothered to read such a long post:
IN BRIEF: BOTH PVP AND RP REACH THE SAME CONCLUSION, AND ARGUING OVER AND DISTANCING THE TWO MAKES FOR A WORSE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE.
