  3. I have a question regarding disconnections. Something I didn't see mentioned in the lore. What happens if a character simply stops doing all the Clericy stuff? Doesn't really go renegade in the sense of working against Tahariae's/the order's will, just sorta stops. Does the connection itself fade away over time? I know their ability to use it will deteriorate, but it's the actual connection I'm curious about.

  5. The day had started like any other, with a group of men gathering in a ruined forest keep to share and discuss recent news. As the mage, Iatrilemar and the brute, Morris were scuffling, the spellsword, Delonna stepped forward with a hunt. News of creatures ambushing travelers on the road had reached his attention, and it was proposed the men clear them out for free, as a training exercise and a service to the King. With Adeon's approval, the four of them gathered their gear and set out. Delayed by a pair of obnoxious merchants on the road, they reached their destination at sunset. It was a place along the road to Aldersberg, where unusually aggressive spiders had been reported. It didn't take the hunters long to locate a cave likely to be the source of the attacks, but with each minute wasted, the sun sunk lower and lower towards the horizon. Cautious to avoid a night-time ambush by their prey, the men lit their torches and hurried into the cave. From the moment they arrived, the four were suspicious. The further into the cave they searched, the more this suspicion grew. The cave was filled with webs, but few spiders were seen. The walls and floor looked too human-influenced to be a natural cave, and the cave system itself had caved in, leaving only the way back and a sealed stone door ahead. The door itself was clearly magical, with an almost familiar glow that seemed to absorb the mage's spells when he thought to test its strength. The only clue to opening it was a strange gem-shaped slot carved into the stone. The group found themselves pondering this for some time, before eventually agreeing to test the green gem they had found on the forest witch's corpse. As the spellsword departed to retrieve it, the rest were left in the fading light of their dying torches, guarding the mysterious stone door. Though left behind, they were far from alone. With night truly fallen by the time Delonna departed, Adeon, Morris and Iatrilemar soon picked up skittering noises in the dark, growing ever louder. A hoard of oversized arachnids burst out of a side-passage, charging straight towards the three men. Trapped between the spiders and the dead-end, the brute took the lead with a greatsword in hands. The mage prepared his spells, while Adeon began a chant. Trapped or not, they would fight the foes they came for. With the men on the defensive, Morris swung his greatsword through the air, slashing at anything and everything that came within range. Bolts of arcane energy flew him, as the Mage tried thinning the numbers to keep the Brute from being overwhelmed. The only goal became to keep them away from Adeon, but even that grew increasingly difficult as the spiders numbers begun to overwhelm them. Morris barely managed to shake one of the large spiders off his back before Adeon's spell was ready. With a shout, a torrent of fire was sent blasting through the cave, blackening the stone and scorching the spiders. It was only after the flames started dying down that the spellsword returned, carrying the green gem. As he made his way through the cave, a ball of water followed him, spraying water to extinguish the fires and cool the stone walls as passed. Finally he approached the door, pressing the gem into the slot. It was a perfect fit, and the great stone door slowly rumbled down into the ground, after the gem was retrieved. Ahead of them, the men found themselves stepping into a large cavern. The walls and roof alike were covered in a thick webbing, and the floor was stained with blood and littered with bones. Web sacks hung from the roof, and a pile of remains marked the middle of the room, where the ceiling ascended upwards, into a vertical cave. Iatrilemar sent a few of his arcane bolts to burst some of the web sacks, with an assortment of corpses, eggmush and young spiders falling to the ground as a result. Only too late did Adeon spot the large black shape in the tunnel above, and warn against harming the eggsacks. The damage had been done. The dark shape slowly emerged from the webbing above, coming to stand above the pile of remains in the middle of the room. The body of a giant spider, with the upper half of a human body mutated onto it. The spider part stood many times larger than the previous ones, and its entire surface covered in a very thick carapace. The human part had no such protection, but even as she glares down at the intruders, a brown glow of magic surrounded her hands. As soon as the Spider Queen accused the men of killing her children, the party took up attack positions. The beast summoned what was left of her army, and the fight began. New born spiders burst free from some eggsacks and surrounded the men, only to be cut down by their blades. As the Iatrilemar created a big arcane shield, Adeon and Morris flanked to either side. Delonna pulled back to the still-open stone door, hearing the skittering of another wave approaching. Though the men had skillfully encircled her, the Spider Queen was prepared. She launched the first strike at the brute, Morris. A blast of brown energy that struck with the force of a boulder, fracturing ribs and heavily winding the strongest of the company. As Adeon broke off the attack to aid his injured comrade, Iatrilemar and his shield were left alone against the terrible beast. Blast after blast struck his shield, threatening to shatter the magic holding it together. The elf was backed into the wall, forced to make his shield smaller and smaller to survive the onslaught. The spellsword held the door with ice, steel and a command over illusions that had made better men surrender, using the chokepoint to prevent the spiders from overwhelming the struggling men within. Just as it seemed the mage could last no longer, Adeon, having moved Morris out of harm's way ascended onto the beast's abdomen. This was not something the creature could ignore, halting the attack on Iatrilemar to investigate the creature in her blindspot. Struggle as she might, she could not shake him off in time to stop the man from sliding his sword between two plates of the thick carapace protecting her, causing her to screech in pain. Having worked himself into a frenzy and failed to crack the creature's armor from the ground, the injured brute Morris followed Adeon onto the Spider Queen's back. While the men attacked from the top, Iatrilemar was summoning the remains of his energy into a forming an arcane bow and arrow. Even with Adeon's sword in her spider abdomen, it was not until Morris struck the Spider Queen's fragile human half with brass knuckles that she collapsed. Though this threw Adeon off, Morris held on tightly, an action that would nearly prove disastrous. When the creature rose again, she rose for the roof, in a doomed attempt to retreat. At the precise moment Morris leaped at the Spider Queen's human torso, the mage released his spell, sending the arcane arrow to her chest. It exploded violently on contact, blasting her human half into pieces and brutally throwing Morris to the ground. The blast that nearly killed one man may well have saved another, as it sent the remaining spiders scattering. The spellsword, growing wearing, had moved too slowly after impaling one spider and before he could withdraw his sword, another had caught his arm with its fangs. Even as Adeon and Iatrilemar went to retrieve the badly injured Morris, the debilitating venom wounded him. Among the mess of bodyparts scattered by the blast, Adeon found a glowing brown gem, taking it with as the four retreated back to their forest keep. It was only with the aid of the guild's paladin that the brute survived, and without any antivenom the spellsword was bedridden for much of three months. All survived however, and the Marked Men had eliminated a threat they hadn't even been aware of yet.

  7. As night begins to fall, the High Elf Iatrilemar finds himself strolling along a path, following the outskirts of a forest. His destination is near, but he has little familliarity with it, and as he arrives as the old fort, finding his way in becomes another matter entirely. He is left with little time to contemplate this however, as in the darkness of night, a figure perches in the branches above. The shrill cry, an order to depart the forest is the only warning the elf receives, before a blast of green light strikes the ground near him. The confused elf is able to do little more than conjure a shield to protect himself, as blast after blast of green energy are thrown down at him. The commotion draws out the castle's current occupant, Adeon, and a traveling soldier, Drake, both of whom come to investigate, only to find themselves under attack as well. The shrill cry once again returns, demanding the men leave. Howls are heard from the forest as the bombardment of spells stops, and a large pack of wolves emerges, forcing the men to retreat through the castle gates as Adeon raises them. They are followed by the wolves, who seem driven to attack even when the portcullis is lowered. The smaller of the wolves make it through, only to be cut down by the men. The slaughter of their own drives the pack on, and they begin viciously gnawing at the thick wooden gate. The men inside see no choice but to sally out, and many of the wolves are killed in the attempt. Those the survive quickly retreat into the forest, the witches' hold over them broken. The next night: Adeon, Drake and Iatrilemar remained at the fort that day, dressing their wounds, talking about the attack and resting. The ominous crash of thunder and rain pouring from dark clouds blocked out the light of the setting sun early, unleashing a long and dark night upon the forest. The forest hag had returned, and begun testing the defences. This time the attack would come from the river, as men began to rise out up its muddy banks. These men were soldiers slain in the recent wars, whose bodies had gone forgotten, left in the river to be infected by parasites. The return of the shrill cries alerted the trio inside that their enemy had returned, but the thudding of fists against their backdoor had them all surprised. The door soon began to shudder and splinter, with flashes of green light to be seen around its edges. The men prepared themselves for an unknown enemy, which came pouring into the room once the hag had blasted open the door. The elf unleashed a torrent of magical bolts of his own, and both men met the corpses with their swords, one wielding a blade of aurum while the other, steel. Although greatly outnumbered, they would find themselves in luck. The doorway chosen for the attack had proved too narrow, and the corpse-men could not effectively swarm their targets. The advantage their numbers offered dwindling as creature after creature was cut down or blasted apart. The soldier's steel proved far less effective than the hunter's aurum, though it was made up for by a merciless onslaught of blows. Even as the remaining corpses tried to swarm the mage their attack proved a failure, lacking the numbers to overwhelm him, and the last of them were brutally dispatched. The hag once again retreated into her forest, no doubt plotting her next attack. For now though, it was over. Later: The forest would remain quiet for several days after this, until the castle’s occupants gathered together there. The hag had been waiting for this moment, when enough of her foes would be together to play her hand. Once again she announced her presence with shrill cries and shouted demands, until the men had assembled themselves. It was then that she unleashed her greatest minion, sending the forest’s resident troll into battle. Stone crashed and crumbled as the troll barged through a decaying portion of the wall, holding an oversized wooden club in hand. The men opened fire, sending arrows, bolts and magic down at the beast. With each attack being retaliated by rocks and eventually the club being hurled up at the old battlements, the men feared the structure would collapse before the troll did. As Coren shouted his orders, the rest moved into position. Torian to the gate controls, Adeon to the ground, while Iatrilemar began preparing a spell. Moments later a furious troll was chasing Adeon through the open gateway. Though the gate wasn’t released quickly enough to crush the troll, it did lock the beast out in the open, where Iatrilemar’s spell struck it with devastating effects. The troll was left dazed and vulnerable, until Adeon's sword pierced its thick neck and put it down. It was only then that the furious hag showed herself, intent on finishing what her minions had failed. When the troll-slayer approached to negotiate, she blasted him aside with a bolt of green energy. Any plans for revenge quickly disappeared though, as Coren’s crossbow embedded a bolt in her flesh. The hag stumbled and bled, slowly retreating into the forest. Had she gotten away, she would have no-doubt returned with more minions, but Coren had followed close behind. Cut down before she could cast another spell, the witch’s dying words were unmistakably a threat. A green stone of magical power was found on her body, and thus ended the story of the witch of the forest.

  9. Yeah, it says they can still create it, in the way you think they should. Why should I have to change the way I RP, just because you want to feel like your magic is special? Summoning ice directly from the void has been a thing since way back in the MAT days and changing that to a seperate subtype sounds like an unnecessary complication. And Yes they are able to evoke it in its gas form. Just because basically no one does it, doesn't mean it's not possible. The MAT back in the day decided water wasn't as useful in its liquid state as most magics, so at tiers 4 and 5 one could delve into ice and steam/mist. Nowadays, they just have to find it in that form and study it.
  10. I've been evoking ice for at least a year and a half now, and this seems absolutely unnecessary. Water evocation isn't a subtype that needs splitting up. To be entirely honest, the way you've set this idea up makes it sound as if you're trying to make evoking ice more special than it should be. There's no reason it should be some elite-tier subtype for water evocation masters. It's better where it is, as part of water evocation. As someone who'd be affected by this, a big -1.
  11. The sound of a great many trees blowing in the growing wind, and the noise of waves crashing against land were the only sounds to be heard in what was once the town of Aldersberg. As storm clouds approached from the horizon, a group gathered where the Aldersberg docks once stood. They had long since been removed, along with all the ships that rested in those waters. All but one. Anchored close to shore, the Ebony Glider was ready to depart on her voyage. No cheers of excitement nor eager shouts were heard though. The atmosphere of the assembled men was nothing but sombre. All had known the day was approaching, but that didn't make the farewells any easier. With the storm clouds growing ever closer, they knew the time had come. If they delayed any longer, the ship would be consumed by violent seas. Brothers in arms, but no longer unified, half the men boarded the ship while the others watched from shore. Joining the ship's sailors was the leader of the company, the White Wolf himself, clad in black leather. The old Sparrow stood by his side, once an emperor of men, now a hunter of beasts. Two more joined them, both sharing a resemblence only family could provide. The larger of the pair followed with unwavering loyalty, while the other - with regret and uncertainty. The swordsman followed close behind, ready to follow the wolf to the edge of the world if needed. From the shore, three high elves and a human bid farewell to their brothers. The disfigured human, a grizzled veteran and paladin of Xan. One elf clad in armor, using it to conceal the frame of a mage. The next stands waving slowly, dressed far too formally for such an occassion. The leader of the group at shore had donned the black leather of his order, and stood with long hair blowing in the wind. All had obligations to stay, some with more regret than others. Two among their number were missing, something that did not escape notice. The master-trainer had departed ahead of the rest, already waiting at their destination. The archer was missing, and unable to be contacted. The time to depart had arrived, and waiting was no longer an option. Soon the anchors were raised and the sails were unfurled. As they caught the strong wind from the approaching storm, the brothers at shore watched on. The voyage had begun. The Marked Men had left for Aeldin, answering the call of the Sparrow. ((Education takes priority, and we've agreed it's best to put the guild on pause. I'm locking this and moving it to inactive guilds until school holidays/we're ready to continue.))
  12. I would say no to combining fire (or any evocation for that matter) with arcane evocation too, because it doesn't make sense. That's due to the nature of arcane evocation though. It's pretty much evocation without the element, yeah? (That's how it used to be at least). Add the fire, and all you really have is fire evocation. Arcane evocation is special. It edges away from the norms of evocation. Being unable to combine it with other evocations doesn't mean you're unable to combine other evocations. It just has to make sense. No flaming water for example. Edit: There are limited instances where you can actually combine them, because the properties of the elements can't conflict. Flaming rocks and electrified water are the two working examples that come to mind.
  13. I asked numerous MAT fellows back in the day. Both the really old MAT and the one that replaced it in Anthos. Combining spells, though extremely rare, was always a creativity they were happy to encourage. Electrified water being a perfect example, for someone that has water and electrical evocation. It requires a lot of control and far more energy than normal, but has always been allowed. Creativity!
  14. I figure it's about time for a new status. Here's the photos from my adventure. Whitsunday Islands. http://imgur.com/a/4JjUD

  15. This is actually a pretty interesting suggestion, and definitely a good read. Just a couple questions regarding the idea of limiting based on schools. First of all, my understanding of primordials is that they're a mix of conjuration and evocation, but wouldn't that be impacted by the ability and limitations that accompany casting from different schools? Secondly, you have Luxamancy, composed of entirely support magics. It makes sense to group them, but these are all mental things that can't do any physical harm. I worry that the limitations of the schools will have a negative impact on the interest people have in these less direct magics. Do you see focus on sorcery affecting the popularity of other schools like this one?
  16. Alright. So at the OP's request I've hidden all the posts arguing between people who aren't involved. Working out terms and conditions is something for the region owner and original poster to do, not something to be argued about by people who aren't involved. I won't lock this, but please refrain from posting if you're not involved. It ends up making the whole thread a mess that's difficult to find the important posts in.
  17. Moved to denied by request of the current Rex.
  18. I get that they can change their appearance, but I more meant distinguishing markings or features.
  19. A question! I have a question. I didn't see any mention of whether or not this affects appearance. Do these riftborn fellows look different to normal people? Should probably change the bit where it says race lore too. Better off referring to it as a playable group or something.
  20. Moved to inactive guilds by request of the original poster. Please send me a PM if you wish to re-open it.
  21. I've always enjoyed thinking of ways to bring the effects of MC enchantments IC. I don't go into detail how I make them because I'm not an alterationist, but I've never seen that a cause for concern. I've always RPed that the blade of my longsword ignites in flames when exposed to the air. And considering it's got fire aspect, I don't think that's too absurd. Never had any complaints. Edit: and that's just one example though. Your sword has smite, but no cleric has enchanted it? Maybe the steel can be gilded. Bane of Arthropods? A poison that reacts strangely with spider blood. Unbreaking? Maybe mana was used to remove some impurities in the metal. I'd like to think we can be creative instead of just keeping it out of RP.
  22. ((Much of this is no longer valid. Can remove/close/whatever for now, and see what happens in RP.))
