  1. Passing Time The room was so warm. A pleasant, comforting warmth that enveloped you like a blanket. I couldn’t remember why I was in that room, but it was a nice room. Small and cozy with its own kitchen and a small dining area. There was even a bed next to the window with a night stand beside it. Someone had put flowers by the window. How thoughtful. The sun that poured in and caressed baby blue forget-me-nots that weaved between beautiful snow white roses and daffodils. The flowers left an intricate shadow on the bed. The soft tick of the clock above the bed was the only thing that I could hear. Tick. There was a woman in the room with me. She had been there for quite a while. Hours? Days? I wasn’t sure how long we had been in that room together, but everything about her seemed so familiar. I knew her from somewhere, but she looked different now. She looked older, more tired. Her eyes were red as if she had been rubbing them for hours and large bags hung underneath them. She was slumped over in her chair looking over at the bed. I thought that perhaps she should take a nap. The room was so warm. Tick. In the time that she had been in that room with me I never saw her smile but somehow, I knew all about that smile. I knew that if she smiled right now her hazel eyes would wrinkle up in the corners to form lines that resembled sun rays. That smile lit up a room. I knew that at one point I might have done anything just to see that smile. She wasn’t smiling now, but I knew that look too. Her lips pulled down in a frown and her brow furrowed. I couldn’t understand why though. The room was so warm. Tick. Her gasp broke the silence that had been hanging in the air. Her furrowed brow flew up and her eyes grew wide. I wasn’t sure why she looked so frightened but I felt compelled to comfort her, as if it was somehow my job to hold and protect her. I wanted to take away her fear but she was gone before I had the chance. Her shiny sterling silver earrings danced violently as she turned her head and jumped from her chair. I hoped she’d be back soon. The room was so warm. Tick. The woman stopped just outside the room. I could hear her talking to someone in a frantic, pleading voice. There was a muffled reply from what sounded like a girl. They both flew into the room and over to the bed beside the window. Their shadows erased the silhouette of the flowers that had been placed in the window. I was glad they were both here now. The room was so warm. Tick. The girl looked to be high school or maybe college age, but the older woman was looking to her desperately, as if the girl had answers to a pressing question. I hadn’t seen this girl before. Her clothes made me smile. Her pants were bright green and her top was navy blue and scattered with little cartoon monkeys. How cute. Her long blonde hair was pulled back into a pony tail revealing her face. It didn’t seem to be as happy as the monkeys on her top. Her face was void of color, her gray-blue eyes wide. She reached for something towards the top of the bed and I could see that her hands were shaking. She couldn’t have been cold though. The room was so warm. Tick. Her trembling fingers lingered at the head of the bed for a moment. Tick. The two of them seemed to be holding their breath as they stood there, the woman frozen and the girl trying her best to control the shaking so that she too could stand still. They were waiting for something. Tick. The girl looked over and nodded. She was saying something, but I was having a hard time making out the words. I think she had found what she was looking for but her face lacked confidence. The girl withdrew her hand and moved so that her ear was hovering just above the bed. Tick. She was listening for something. I wasn’t sure what she was hoping to find. The only thing I could feel was how warm the room was. The only thing I could hear was the gentle tick of the clock. Tick. The woman stood peering over the shoulder of the young girl. If the woman had leaned over any more her bouncy brown curls would have spilled into the girl’s face. Those hazel eyes of hers were focused, concentrating heavily on what the girl was doing. The woman had her arms wrapped around herself and her shoulders hunched up around her ears, giving herself a big hug as if a strong wind was blowing through the room. It was so warm though. Tick. The girl looked up at the woman and shook her head. She looked both flustered and concerned. She tried one more time to press her trembling fingers to a long, thin lump in the bed. Tick. The heat from her fingertips radiated through me. I wanted to hold her hand and let her know that it was ok. I wanted her to just sit with me here and enjoy the warm room. Tick. The girl drew away from the bed for a moment and for the first time I realized that there was a figure there in the bed. I peered harder and recognized that there was person lying there. I knew that person. I had known that person my entire life. It was me. Or at least, an older version of me. This version was skinny and his features were sunken. He was nothing like the tall, proud, decorated war hero that I was. The man I saw now was nothing like that. He was frail and weak, a dull mirror that failed to reflect who I was. He looked cold but I wasn’t. I was so warm. Tick. I looked over at the girl. No, not a girl, my nurse. I could tell that she was fighting back tears as she explained to the woman that she couldn’t feel my pulse anymore. The woman didn’t even try to keep from crying. I knew now that she was my daughter. She leaned over to hug me one last time. I wish I could tell her how nice that felt. I wanted to tell her that everything was so warm and comforting. I couldn’t though. I looked over at the clock. Time to go. I turned to leave just as more people flooded into the room. They crowded around my bed, hugging each other. I think they were there to see me off. How nice of them. I could feel their love as I left. It was so warm. Tick. About The Story This is a true story about the first time I watched one of my patients die. I could have told the story from my perspective, but instead I chose to see things through my patient's eyes. He was a hospice patient, and although it was an emotional experience it was also very peaceful. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. If anyone finds this to be an interesting read I may post other stories from the perspectives of my patients. Healthcare is such a fascinating world and I love sharing my passion with others.
  2. Llumaria dances back to her place on the wall of Lin'ame, now that the arrows have finally stopped flying. She plops her bum down on the cold stone with a sigh. Her nose wrinkles at the unpleasant mix of sweat and blood that permeates the air. She looks down upon the mass of dead bodies below her and sticks out her bottom lip in a sort of sad pout. "I really wish everyone would stop fighting." She murmers. She simply sits there for a moment, looking over the horror scene before her. Suddenly she pops up, and her cheery mood returns. "Well, guess I best get to fixing up the wounded!" Llumaria then does a little twirl, and scurries off to begin her work.
  3. I think I may actually be back to stay a while this time. So... Hello!

  6. Hmm... I'll give that a shot but it was telling me the sever was on 1.3.... so strange. Thanks!
  7. Pardon me if there has already been a resolved topic on this, but I cannot seem to connect to the server. Every time I try to connect with either 1.3.1 or 1.3.2 I get an "End of Stream" message. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I haven't played since the previous map. Could anyone help me out? Much appreciated!
  8. Oh why hello there. It's been quite some time.

Hey! looks like someone has returned to fix Malinor!

  9. I would just like to leave a little hello here so- Hello!

  10. The girl looks absolutely frightened by Kiki's proposal "N-no! Mali- Mali should be with mali and... and valah want t-to hurt me." She bites her lip before continuing "T-Tyras took me to um... to Salvas and this g-girl... m-masked girl wanted to... to skin me! Why? Why s-skin me? What did I do? W-what did mali do t-to make valah mad. Mali mad at m-mali. Valah mad at m-mali. Botru t-too. W-w-why? C-can't I- that is to say um... can't we a-all be happy?"
  11. The mali'ame shakes her head rapidly "N-no... sentinels were there, helping. Blue men c-came. The ma-ma-mage d-defenders?" She struggles to remember what they called themselves. "S-so scary... I hid."
  12. The girl flinches under Kiki's touch and the growing stares of the people around her. "I um... S-sorry! I only just... I'm not uh- not used to people." She continues to fumble over her words "You say m-mali are not mad b-but they- just the other day a m-man was yelling. Yelling so loud! Yelling about t-the council and then..." her knuckles turn white as she grips the strap on her dress "T-these people in blue um- they came in! Lots of them, with sharp swords and mean words! I was s-so scared..." A few more tears escape and she begins to choke back bile forming in the back of her throat.
  13. The mali'ame girl flicks her head up suddenly, causing her deep maroon locks to fly about "Y-yes there is! There's L-laurir Titania... and- and Oceas... and I th-think some others! So... if they're s-still here and they care, why do we uh... why do they need to be replaced? T-Titania is s-so nice..." Shocked by her own outburst she returns her attention to the ground. She wipes away a single tear from under her bright green eyes.
  14. Hesitantly the girl replies "B-but if it was um... K-Kolyat? Yes him... if it's h-his fault and h-he left... doesn't th-that mean th-the current council is... is fine?"
  15. A wood elven girl dressed in an elegant green dress stands awkwardly in the middle of the square in the great capital of Malinor. Clearly uncomfortable at being out in the open she tugs on the strap of her dress nervously. She look around the crowd a few times times before opening her mouth to speak, but quickly closes it again. She does this several times in an attempt at sound before finally managing to utter a small "E-Excuse me...". Clearly out of her comfort zone she begins to tremble, though she speaks again, this time a bit louder. "I um... Excuse me!" A few people in the croud turn to look at her. "H-hello. I was uh- well you see I just... just wanted to know why all the um- well why all the mali are so mad. Everyone is- that is to say um... people keep saying we need a new council. W-what's wrong with t-this one? I... well I have only been here a..." She pauses to count on her shaking fingers "A few days and well... they have been very n-nice to me. Mali s-say that the c-council left but... n-not all have. And... and the ones that stayed they um- that is they... Well I think they care! S-so I wanted to know- if it's not t-too much trouble ... w-why do we need a n-new council? I h-have asked b-b-b-but I don't get r-real answers. I j-just want happy elves to b-be happy!" Having finally gotten the words out she bites down on her lower lip rather hard. She tries to look and see if anyone had heard her but finds herself unable and focuses her attention at the ground and waits, hoping somebody heard her and that her breath was not wasted.
  16. Aiden come back. I've returned :)

  17. The wood elf continues to fumble over her words, her eyes continuing to flicker back and forth between the ground and Bircalin's face. "Yes well um... who is- I mean what is wrong with the current council? I just- Happy elves should be happy and we should love each other. Did- did they do something wrong?"
  18. A wood elf with deep maroon hair stumbles over to the wall where the curious man stands. She keeps her bright green eyes pointed towards the groud as she stutters "I- I'm sorry but um... who are we- that is to say uh why are we voting? What- why do we need new leaders?" She looks up briefly before shifting her gaze to the ground again "Sorry if I uh... I'm new and just... well just a bit confused. Sorry. So sorry."
  19. I never got to know you personally but the impression you left on me as a member of the staff was that you are a pretty great dude. You will be missed, and I do hope LOTC is lucky enough to get more staff members like you. Peace out.

  21. Earenniel hears the speech from within the High Elven district and rushes to open the gates and let herself out. After fumbling with the key she eventually manages to get it open. Over the dull roar of the crowd she shouts. Mali! Do not let this hooded figure coax you to your deaths. It is true that Oren insists upon the murder of our kin, for humans destroy that which they envy. Why then, would you want to seek them out? Would you really sink to their level? It is easy enough to avoid the valah which so forwardly express their jealousy. Their crimes are great and rage is justified, but bringing steal upon Oren will doom not just those daring enough to venture to valah lands, but upon all Mali. Surely if you cannot think of your own safety, think of others! Attacking Oren will bring war upon us all. Death will come, regardless of who was so selfish as to raise a blade against the valah. Do not be so selfish as to let your revenge be the doom of an entire people. Unify yourselves for the sake of defense, for we are few and they are many. Come together here, as one, and protect yourselves and your families rather than leave them to face the consequences of a rash decision. Earenniel looks to the crowd, hopeful that her words may have convinced any who considered carrying out the hooded elf's poorly thought out plan.
  22. Earenniel approaches the board as she sees Kolyat leaving it. As she scans over the newly posted message she smiles. "This is more than a little needed." She walks off, hoping the letter will help to dissolve the wall between the sub-races.
  23. ((Edited. Please be sure to read the entire post, including what was added under the title "Application".))
  24. As you enter Malinor you see a board with important information posted on it. As you scan the various announcements and advertisement your eyes fall upon one labeled "Citizenship". Citizenship In order to organize our people and fairly provide living situations and jobs, the council requires that you be an official citizen of Malinor. Without citizenship you may not own a home within any official Malinor settlement. Simply filling out an application here will inform the High Council that you do intend to live or work within Malinor, and will guarantee that you receive a home within the next settlement. The Council soon hopes to leave this current island in search of another, more suitable location to settle. In this new location, a temporary living situation will be established for all mali who have citizenship. This living complex will be simple and cramped, but is only meant to provide shelter until your home has been built. Keep in mind that those with official Malinor jobs (Lower Council, Farmers, Miners, Lumberjack) will be the first to receive homes. Jobs Each job title comes with a quota to be filled at the end of each week. Pick a quota under your selected job title that you agree to fill. You do not need to commit to one single quota under your job. If you find you cannot get an entire crate of iron by the end of the elven week, you may instead give a half crate of iron and 4.5 crates of cobble, or simply 9 crates of cobble. By filling out the job section of the citizenship application you become an official part of the Malinor work force. A chest will be placed in the back of the Hall of Labor (currently located along the passage to the chapel) for you to place the resources you have collected. Lumberjacks 1. 7 bundles of birch logs 2. 7 bundles of spruce logs 3. 7 bundles of oak logs 4. 7 bundles of jungle logs 5. 4 crates of charcoal Miners 1. 9 crates of cobble 2. 3 crates of coal 3. 1 crates of iron 5. 5 crates of stone (smooth stone) Farmers 1. 18 bundles of wheat 2. 6 baskets of bread 3. 7 baskets of carrots 4. 10 baskets of potatoes 5. 10 baskets of melons Application Those who do not agree to follow the laws are not to be considered citizens are will not receive homes. ((If you have failed to agree and you have already posted your application, please post another application.)) ((MC Name)): Name: Race: Will you require a home? (If you intend to live with someone who is already a citizen, state who): Desired District: Do you agree to follow the laws of Malinor? Desired job, current job (if applicable):
