wolfkite sorry man it is aneurysming my brain that you are fully on board with the idea that it is futile to try and catch every pedophile or prevent every instance of sexual harassment before it happens and yet you believe wholeheartedly that making this an "18+ server" will accomplish this supposedly impossible task by making every single player an adult who is willing and capable to consent to sex on the internet

I agree 13 is a strange age to let people into this community and due to the kevin pondt shit I am just as skeeved out as everyone else that there are kids here. But I would err on the side of protecting young members of our community and making LoTC a safe space rather than throwing them to the proverbial discord moderators in some other gaming/roleplaying community

I have no personal animosity towards you @Telanir. I don't know you well enough for that to be fair or justifiable. I also don't take any umbrage to what you're up to as an Admin. It might be surprising based on what I just wrote, but I think all of it is good! LoTC is at its best when it's a passion project, when everyone takes their own initiative and writes something they feel passionate about. The problem is in the expectations you set for the staff.

It seems like you - individually - have engineered the server so that everyone depends on staff, and everyone is on the clock, trying to meet some quota of their free time. Does any volunteer member of a Minecraft server really need to feel like they "work their butts off to keep (the server) running", as @Laeonathansaid?

I hate to direct any vitriol at you, because like I said earlier I do not know you well enough, but also because there's a lot of good I think you could do. But I mean, I tuned into the livestream. I think a lot of what you said on it was great and I appreciated getting to actually see your perspective. But if you have a vision for the server it can't be anyone else's job to make it happen. You are the only one who can execute perfectly on your ideas.

I don't know, are most people who join the staff able to accomplish anything?
 

What a ridiculous question. I agree with Unwillingly that you don't need to be a chef to tell if food is rancid. I think sometimes player feedback (mine included) is in poor taste or is ignorant to some factors in the staff's decision making. But for the most part, the LoTC staff is tied down in protocols and politics that allow Telanir to do nothing while the people who volunteer for him are stuck doing endless busywork and receiving endless criticism.

Lord of the Craft is absolutely not @Telanir's MMORPG. It is not a product that Tythus Ltd. is selling or a service that it is offering. It is a community that sustains a Minecraft server entirely by voluntary contributions. Somehow, despite the hundreds of players who pour their time into making this server how it is, the lead admin and owner are both creatively and financially insolvent. They should not forget that.

it's the "noise shading" part that gets me - you can deny someone for roleplaying a dog or a hypebeast, but if the rest of their application understands the lore and their skin looks like a bunch of random noise in the shape of an orc those two things don't cancel out. You can recommend someone a skin while still accepting them.
