the mods when u appeal want to see that u won't be brought to their desk again

think of it like customer service, but unpaid and boring, and you get people pounding on your personal discord account like a rattling door whenever they have an inkling of miscarried rules or 'injustice'

so when someone makes a memey appeal or like, one that doesn't suggest they won't get brought to that mod again as some kind of concern, the mod will just go "Oh, I don't want to ban them twice and file all this paper work. I'll just ban them twice as long."

the staff here are hardly trained and just basically hit up senior staff members to go "do I do this" and get told y/n

not excusing the braindeadedness of the situation, just saying it's not fixable, and learning to have fun on here means recognizing that some fifteen year old prick or twenty-two year old virgin with a god complex and a horrible relationship with their dad can execute u or ur friends for any reason they conceive based on personal prejudice

once ppl accept that and recognize there's no shame in being civil when pursuing an unban (even if its unfair that the ban happened in the first place, for instance) it's possible to get back on

sadly, expecting equity from unpaid volunteers with a personally vested mission of being the ultimate minecraft ubermensch never pans out well

i gave people extended bans for poor appeals, it's entirely fair

imo the question is whether a ban should have been issued in the first place

"borderline harassment" is like saying "oh he murdered somebody a little bit"

it's either somebody was harassed or they weren't, tip-toeing around it (on part of the mods) adds to the confusion

valid reasons to ban for slander would include: making claims that are false (i.e., somebody oocly targeted me but it didn't happen, somebody did x, y, and z but it didn't really happen)

that would be valid reasons to ban

however if it's as simple as this person just talked smack in a private vc, i really don't see how that's harassment, and it's not really libel if it's not defamatory - people should be free to say they dislike somebody for whatever reason as long as they're not lying about a set of circumstances

if the person who got banned wants 2 be unbanned, they should do a write-up explaining the situation and petition, if they don't care enough then they'll prolly have to live with a potentially unjust verdict
