The air around New Malinor was still. An air of death that pervaded the people there. It had once been a lively place, with crowds selling wares, sparring, and speaking to each other in the various tongues of Anthos. But no more. It was silent, and the humid air gave a sense of foreshadowing of what was to come.
Change perspective, head to the throne room. There three figures could be seen, clad in the iron armor of the Lumi'drim.
One, Prince Ebs. His blonde hair and calm composure were evident as he viewed the two soldiers before him, a slight curl of his lips denoting his distaste. He did not move, listening to the words which came from the soldier's mouths. They stood opposite him, remaining stock still.
The first, an elven woman with red hair, spoke confidently, a pointed look from her companion starting her off.
"Prince Ebs, do you have any idea of where the High Prince; or rather, any of the Princes are? War looms over us and all are either absent, or demoted."
The Prince responded in turn.
"Prince Kaun has been around. Eleron is notably absent."
"Without proper notification our military and our nation have been completely without leadership, guidance, and with the conclave looming over us... potential disaster."
"I am well aware of the disaster."
"Then you are also aware of the measures taking place as of now?" the woman added, looking towards her companion. "Commanding Officer?"
At this point, the woman's companion, a human with dark brown hair and a sickly pink birthmark stepped forward. His helmet was off, and his eyes were slightly sad as he looked to the Prince.
"This nation has always had a civilian government, not a military one. This is not the time to change that."
The mans gruff voice rang out as he spoke.
"Now is the perfect time to change that, Ebs. We are at war. This is not the place for shopowners an' bookkeepers."
"Sadly, Ebs, it isn't something which is being requested."
"Malinor has laws that we are all bound to!"
"Step down. Let Malinor live under a strict rule, not a lax one."
"I will not step down. Take this to the High Council if you wish. As I didn't do anything? Are you trying to justify a coup like this?"
"Askin' the 'Igh Council to remove its own member. That's a lark."
"So you do this, arresting the only person who is capable of giving orders."
"My orders come from my commanding officer. They are clear."
At this, the two soldiers drew their weapons. A spiked morningstar for the human, and twin blades for the elf.
Ebs did not.
"Kristian von Craw, you are suspended from the rank of Captain, pending investigation by the High Council. Neci, you are relieved of your duties, pending an investigation."
"An' there go the last Lumi'drim, aye?"
"Tell me Ebs, who is going to enforce your wishes? We are not the only ones taking the matters into this regard. Your military has been joining Conclave day by day, and your last defenders are without guidance, while you're off preparing a defense somewhere. Look at your city. Where are your guards, your military?"
"You are poor excuses for defenders."
The human stepped forward, a long sigh escaping him.
"You are poor excuses for leaders. Neci, bind 'im."
The Elven woman stepped forward, binding Ebs. She met no resistance as the shackles are tightened.
"I am sorry, friend. This is what is best for Malinor."
"We all must choose our own... Know that I will not forget what you have done," he shouted at the human, whose back was turned, "You dare invoke the Undead? What do you know? You were not alive! You do not know the horrors I witnessed. The friends I lost. Too many to count. It is in their memory that I returned to the High Council. You are responsible. You will pay."
"Your position... an' the 'igh Council... are no more."
"Power is not bestowed by one, but respected by another. If there is no one to listen to your words; what power do you have?"
"Neci, follow. We 'ead to the Conclave."
The two soldiers marched Ebs out, not saying a word as they made their way to the new city. Citizens stood aside as they see the former Prince in shackles. He disappeared into a room in the Conclave's council, and remains there for a long while. The majority of Malinor's military switches over in the following hours, several of the best soldiers marching to Conclave. They had made a decision.
The Lumi'drim were gone.
