      It's easier to raise a pipe to your mouth if your shorter.

      I mean if you're talking about Elves, Dwarves, and Halflings, it was more of a curse/mutation thing than evolution.

      Plus it's easier to hide from things if you're short, and it's easier to heal things with big ears.
