  1. friendly reminder that the wiki and family echo are the weapons of the ontologically evil and from an outdated era to push alternative agendas antithetical to collaborative story telling (and should therefore be ignored entirely).

@monkeypoacher eh that's an ancient thing. like the 5th empire being formed by random house horen descendants just so happening to appear out of aeldin. or even mog in 2012 calling himself "godfrey HOREN" after the literal father of all mankind, which was really ******* on-the-nose. you've never seen a "legolas malin" or a "thorin urguan", and for very good reason.

the main reason why "being someone's cousin" is more common now is largely because mediums like discord and the increased OOC-connectivity (aka the "everyone knowing everyone and their business"ity) combined with ever-worsening player retention has led to an arms race where you gotta offer noobs shit to get them to stick around. the idea of ppl DM'ing new forum sign-ups and camping the CT for recruits was unthinkable for like the first 6 years of the server's lifespan.

offering your most competent noobs a noble 2nd char so he doesn't switch to another house/duchy/country that does is just an extension of that. in the past that didn't happen nearly as much because ppl weren't as desperate for recruits, and even when they were, you didn't get tards from across the map DM'ing and trying to steal ur guys w false promises of power as bastard #3, because they had no way of doing that.

also on a mostly unrelated note, more restrictive rules and systems have meant that rags-to-riches stories of random peasants founding a new noble family are extremely rare now, whereas they were common as dirt in the past. so there often isn't even a choice between founding your own house or joining someone else's. you just gotta join theirs.
