A certain Lich began to laugh loudly, knowing it to be true!

Sometimes I wonder if Renatus, way back in the day that formed the Empire, was like this too. If so, then I am sad people still look up to that. For the OOC hatred always displayed and the targeting to get pixal power. If not, then what a way to tarnish a legacy.

The Death of an old man (credit to WesleyChen) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D59NyexPnU8 The leaves brushed and blew in the wind, a gust that symbolized the season of the Harvest. The colors of the world would change soon, from a vibrant green to a peaceful orange and red. The old man clothed in black, a silver cross hanging from his belt, made his pilgrimage to the great city of Senntisten. Hoping to make amends in the final moments of his life, or so he hoped. Soldiers and warbands from all kinds of Kingdoms patrolled the road networks, checking caravans and citizens alike for enemies of the state. The old priest slipped by without much attention, no one cares for a aged priest that wanders. His bag wrapped around him was clenched tightly to the frail figure of him, not wishing to part from him as his grey eyes glanced off towards the wheatfields of Renatus-Marna. Seeing the workers toil in the fields, gathering the harvest for the coming fall and winter. In these moments, when alone and in the presence of GOD and nature, his mind slipped to the older days. From the early days of his childhood as a third-born son to a Noble House. Not much worth to many people. He was not needed to be an heir, to be a marriage made off. No, he didn’t feel that needed. He wore the armor and tabard of his House once, to make him feel powerful and worth something. He had even fought in a battle at the ripe age of 14. He fought against the Romstun hordes as the Empire declared them enemies. The blood that soaked the field, the screams that filled the air, poor Jack didn’t know what to do. He killed a man, shoving a blade through a footman’s back as he was occupied with an Imperial soldier. He took a man's life, who could forgive such a thing…. ..God can. Young Jack approached a vineyard near the swamps of Marna, exploring in his family’s armor. He assumed nothing of it till he heard a voice call out, “You, boy. Who are you?” Jack turned to find that it was none other than his Holiness, Everard. The boy didn’t know what to do, but kept to his polite manners and did the proper procedures as he was taught. They went inside and talked for a large portion of the day, of GOD and the Church. Perhaps.. GOD could love Jack, to forgive him of anything he might do. Perhaps the Church will have a need of him. And from there on he declared his life to the cloth. From that day a friendship was born between he and his Holiness Everard. A mentor to a student. Through the coming years he was arose to a status as the priest of Adelberg, to serve the Cathedral there. Through hard work and diligence Everard appointed him to be Archbishop of the Crownlands of the Empire and even the legate to the Emperor himself. The now old man smiled at the thoughts, proud of his younger self. It was there in Adelburg he fell in love even, with a young woman named Madison. Then to his ascension to the position of Vice Chancellor, it was a day he would never forget. Yet not all of life was good and bountiful. Madison had passed on from the world, the lands of Axios embroiled in war with the emergence of Renatus and the declaration of the Third Crusade. It was a time period that caused stress to many, and heartbreak to others. The old man stopped before the great walls of Senntisten, having reached his destination. He made his way inside, slowly making his way up towards the great Adamantine Cathedral that overlooked the city, memories flooding him like a tidal wave. He recalled when his great mentor, his Holiness Everard, died. When the Synod was called upon to elect someone new to take the Exalted Throne. He recalls his heavy breathing as he made his speech, and the moment when the votes were called. “Jack of Mardon..” “Jack of Mardon..” “Jack of Mardon..” “Jack of Mardon..” Four votes in his name, with an abstain. He was chosen by his peers and GOD to be the next High Pontiff. Oh how the bells rang with its glorious news, he could even hear the bells ring like they used too. However he stopped himself, a smile soon fading as he saw a man in a familiar suit of armor donning the tabard of the Order of Saint Lucien. His old friend, Rakim.. They exchanged a few words, then were brought inside the Cathedral. His grey eyes shifted around the great church he once stood in to preach, to talk to Nobles and Commoners alike. He sat himself with a grunt onto one of the pews to relax, exchanging a few more words with Sir Rakim. The Knight questioned Jack about the things he had done, and why, and he gave his best answers that he could. He never regretted any decision he had made. Jack was always a stubborn man to be sure. However chants from the other room echoed, The High Pontiff and his successor, Jude, preached loudly. Rakim mentioned that members of the Royal Family were inside, and best they leave in order to spare Jack any.. Painful execution. A kind gesture, in of itself. Outside they stood instead, on the stone and wooden ramparts as they overlooked the city. Words and ideas exchanged, a last conversation they were to have. The old man turned towards his comrade to continue yet Rakim drew a blade out on him. His hand was shaky, Jack’s voice was soft. Jack knew this was what laid before him when he came here, he was Excommunicated after all, it was only right. “Wish to make peace?” Rakim asked, motioning to the Heavens that laid bright in the sky. “I made my peace before coming here, in the woods of my journey. I do have one request, however.” The Old Priest asked, his voice low and quiet as a gentle breeze brushed against the two friends. “Speak.” “Do not forget the man that I was. The world may stain my name, and i do not blame them. But you, Rakim, do not forget me and the conversations we once had.” And with that Jack stood closer to Rakim, a soft grunt escaping him as he felt the steel pierce flesh. The blade sunk deep into his fragile body, easily destroying some vital organs in his stomach. “I forgive you..” Jack whispered to him, offering a final nod as he slumped down onto the wooden ramparts to seat himself, a pale and sickly hand reaching to cover the wound that was given. It was at this time that the High Pontiff Jude came down as he spotted us, along with a retinue of Soldiers and Clergy. They came to see Jack live in his final moments. A brave Holy Knight came quick to Jack, passing Rakim as he went to apply pressure to the wound, telling the old priest to keep it tight. However it was of no use, jack knew. Jude however quickly came to Jack as well, beginning to pray loudly to GOD and the Heavens. Life was slipping away from him, it was close now. His Holiness then lifted the Anathema on Jack, allowing him to ascend to the Seven Skies once more. It was a final peace given upon him, a feeling of solace gifted upon Jack.. “Do not forget the man that I was..” The final words of Jack Amador, before his grey eyes peered up towards the Pontiff and his men, before peering up at the starry sky and soon faded into Darkness… The life of the High Pontiff-Emeritus, Clement the Third, The man, Jack Amador, Had breathed his last. ((OOC Note: Keep OOC comments to a minimum my friends, as always. It was very good RP that occured and I enjoyed every second. Ya boy Brom <3))

The Pontiff-Emeritus somehow responds in the process! Explain to us why Renatus first decided to forge an alliance with the kinslayers of Krug and a Dominion of Magic using Elves out of desperation. Surely the Defender of the Faith has a reputation of human superiority and repulsing paganism. However, the alliance of Haense and Norland was made after this alliance between Renatus and its goons was formed, out of defense. In your other comments, you mentioned that the OSL was only involved after Haense allied pagans, why not defend the Canonists of Haense from Orcs and Elves? Because Renatus was leading the charge.

Apostolic Apathy An Indictment of Moral Perversion by the Holy Canonist Church 8th of The Deep Cold, 1660 Holy people of GOD, Never must we forgo our responsibilities as caretakers of the Canon and the virtues imparted to us by the Exalted. However, we know as mortals that our fallacies and errant habits are an intrinsic nature to our very humanity. But, this should not excuse our actions as it is vital that we remain stalwart and vigilant in our own accountability and sinful doings that we have entrenched ourselves in. I write to you, dear brethren in faith, to endure in the tribulations that GOD has presented to us as we test the fortitude of our morality and our consciences to stand firm to expose the corrupt and weaken the vile. Our faith is a guide to salvation. The shepherd herds his flock to the Waters of Gamesh and to the virtues and teachings of the Exalted’s testaments. Yet, our Holy Father has adopted a new ministerial norm: using the crook of his staff to herd the sheep to the wolve’s den! I am convinced now, more than ever that the hierarchy of the Holy Canonist Church has diminished its own spiritual authority in favor of political power as it consorts with the violence of Renatian dominion. I recall during my tenure as High Pontiff with the care entrusted to me by the Sacred Synod to mediate the tripartite human kingdoms as established by my predecessor to promote the dignity and unity of Horen’s descendants. With the then recent imposition of the Crown of Renatus to His Majesty, Aurelius Canonius Horen, the plight of humanity was negatively altered and I soon feared that the interests of such unity and dignity would be obscured by the ambition of this undeserving behemoth. The then King of Marna His Majesty Fredrick Pius had expressed to me his desire to convoke a meeting to discuss the matters of state and the policies of the Church in this new realm. Unbeknownst to me, the King of Renatus arrived and partook in our deliberations. I recall a draft as a result of their concurrence to establish a dual monarchical hegemony to which I refused, believing it to be an unequal concentration of human greed. It was the strength of the Godhead that I attribute to declining the assent of the Church, and by now, we know what the outcome is as they have structured this very same institution. Many kingdoms have become subject to their incursions and intimidation. The toppling of the Global Assembly and the dissolution of the Czena Confederation are prime examples of their quest to eliminate all those that oppose them rather than respecting institutions that dignify our human unity and peace. I respond to the accusations made by the barbarians that I used the powers of the Holy Office of the Pontificate and their outlandish belief that my biases favored the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska as Vicar of GOD. I entered ministry when I was fourteen and have lived under the Imperial banner as a proud Canonist of the Heartlands with a keen understanding of the flock. As I near sixty years, I reflect in my ministerial philosophy, to preach the mercy and love of a Creator that does not systematize salvation through the corrupt perversion of the Church and its leaders. I say, with firm conviction and with the Exalted as the witnesses to the truth in my words that these are self-serving assumptions to justify their own puppetry over the Church. My resignation was the culmination of my belief that the Church and that of humanity as a whole would be safely mediated by a successor with great merit and credibility. Little did I know now that this is truly not the case. As I am branded a “puppet” by the horde of barbarians, my successor has acted with the entire interest of Renatus in his mind, absent of any conviction for GOD and unity in the flock and becoming the very puppet of this backward kingdom. I have sought Faith and Order throughout my Pontificate, the guiding motto of my reign. With these reflections in mind, I find that our Church today has no faith nor order. I urge His Holiness to reconsider in the nature that he exercises his ministerial authority. The Pontificate is an office above the toils of secular interests. He is the mediator of faith in all of humanity, not just the few. THE CHURCH BOWS TO NO MORTAL MAN IN NOMINE DEI, High Pontiff-Emeritus Clement the Third

Clement thought about it for a moment, and he was right. He did resign. But he was a Pontiff-Emeritus, and therefor when such a title was used he used his Pontifical name. He assumed a defender of the faith would know such. However, he also thinks on how he was called a puppet of Haense yet never really did anything for them in the long run of things. But I suppose when you have to get rid of one puppet you have to get one yourself.

The Pontiff-Emeritus Clement the Third looked at one of such letters, as he was present during this massacre and managed to escape unharmed. He hummed... "Well that is odd, there were more than two, and I know I seen a few before who happen to be with Renatus. Odd indeed.. Luckily this edict is not about such a massacre!"

Jack Amador, a now humble Monk that travels from Kingdom to Kingdom in pilgrimage stopped himself as he saw the new Golden Bull. His old gray eyes scanned the contents before bobbing his head, now fully and completely proud of what his successor has accomplished! He signed the cross before adjusting the grip on his Shepard's staff, making his way off the road with a few valuable things left in his possession.

Brother Jack hummed to himself, thinking about what to do... and you know what? Every man needs GOD! Jack Amador signed the post

Bishop Bernard submits his vote! (Octo can not get to their PC but informed me of their vote) Archbishop Novatian Besel submits his vote! (Informed me of their vote) The Canonist curate took the ballots from the altar, muttering a prayer: "May the Seven Skies in all their blessings and intercession inspire the Church to select a man befitting for the Holy Laurel of the Exalted. Amen." The votes have been accounted as follows: "...Elphias" "...Elphias" "...Elphias" "...Elphias" "...Novatian Besel" Your Excellencies, the ballots appear to be real and authentic wherein Archbishop Elphias has received the majority of the Synod. Godspeed to His Holiness-Elect!

The Synod of 1648 6th of The Deep Cold, 1648 Vice Chancellor Elphias stood outside before the great doors of the Adamantine Cathedral, addressing the crowd of Clergy and Ordermen. “Brethren in GOD, It saddens my heart to announce that our beloved Clement III is abdicating the sacred Exalted Throne. However it is our duty as members of the Church to find an Apostolic Successor for our Holy Mother Church and to carry on its sacred traditions. In accordance to such, I hereby call the Members of the Synod to Marna for Conclave to select a successor for the office of Vicar of GOD.” The Vice Chancellor then turned on his heels as the great doors of the Cathedral opened, the following Bishops marched forth in procession of chants to the Saints and Exalted, preparing for the following election. My fellow Brothers and Sisters of the Faithful, It is with a heavy heart I write these words that I now pen down. Since I was a boy, at the age of fourteen, I served in GOD’s Holy Church. For twenty six years I have served dutifully and faithfully to the Pontiff, Everard IV, and gave my all to him and the institution I served. When his Holiness passed away some years I go, I felt that GOD guided me to to serve him as the Head of the Faith. I still believe such, however I believe I misunderstood what he guided me to do. I believe, truly, that he called me into this position to merely keep the Church alive and flourishing, to maintain its influence and protect it from threats against our Faith. And with great effort I have done so at the cost of my health. I have kept the Church from the Abyss, I fought alongside the Faithful in the Third Crusade and against the Hordes of Undead on the fields of the Haense. I witnessed many of GOD’s Children flock to the Church to take up the cloth, from Priest to Nun. I continued the work of his Holiness Everard IV, and now, I believe it is time I step down from my position. I fully believe the Pontiff to come after me will be the one to bring the Church to new heights, a place I once dreamed I would bring it. Now, I ask all as my final act as High Pontiff, to pray for the Church and for my successor. May GOD guide him on his path and may he bring glory to the Creator’s name. And I hereby swear undying and unwavering loyalty to my Successor as the High Pontiff of our Faith. Amen. His Holiness CLEMENT III, High Pontiff of the Church of the Canon, Archbishop of Jorenus, Lotharum, Rhodesia, Aleksandria, Visigia and Erochland, Prince-Bishop of St. Thomas, Savoy, Mont St. Humbert, Johannesburg, Esheveurd, Luciensport, Huss, and Dibley, Abbot of Laureh’lin, and Hariam, Bishop of Godfreo, Versace, Mardon, and Carace, Successor of the High Priesthood of the Church, Supreme Pontiff of the Church of True Faith, Keeper of the Canon, Missionary to Aeldin, High Servant to the Exalted's Testaments, Humble Servant of the Faithful and Vicar of God Fide et Ordo

His Holiness, Clement the Third, couldn't help but clap at the POWERFUL speech given by his older Brother.

Clement III stood in the Adamantine Cathedral as he heard news of this.. undead incursion against Haense. With a flick of a hand he ordered his Knights to gather the Order of Saint Lucien. With shouts of orders and direction the district became alive with activity as young men grabbed their arms and armor from the Smith. The older Pontiff strode to his chambers and neatly folded his hands before him as he gazed at the suit of armor he wore during the Third Crusade. He signed the cross before him as he took a deep breath, a simple thought came to mind. "The Church, and the Faithful, will aid their Brothers in the South to defend against the corruption of Iblees... Deus Magnus."
