  2. OOC: Hello there! This is an event designed to simulate a single day of halfling life as best as possible. Everybody starts at the beginning of the hour, having just woken up. Their characters then go about their day as they would IRP, eventually falling back to sleep at the end of the hour, which ends the event. Working, eating, talking, and other things your character typically does in a day can and should be roleplayed. There will be a single roleplay prompt happening during the hour to promote interaction, but attending it isn’t mandatory. Feel free to do as you wish. The intention isn’t to attract a large quantity of halflings into one location at a time, but rather to create as much immersion as possible. SoL Event Checklist (Optional): -Wake up ( ) -Eat something ( ) -Do some task ( ) -Interact with someone ( ) -Eat another thing ( ) -Go to sleep ( ) RP: [!] A notice is nailed to the Bywater Noticeboard: "From ploughing to planting, the never-ending field labor of Bywater must continue! This year I've some new seeds to try for the growing season. Hopefully they'll grow into splendid crops! -Mayor Mimosa Applefoot-Nimblefoot." ((7 PM EST tomorrow, Friday April the 7th of 2023. Located in Bywater, the home of the halflings on Almaris))
  3. [!] You find a letter in your aviary mailbox! Farm Draft Notice You have been selected to partake in the honorable work of ploughing the public wheat field for this year’s planting. The winter has come and gone, and now we must prepare for next year if our granary is to remain full of grain! Report to the Town Hall nine days from now (and no sooner!) and we can begin work! -Mimosa Applefoot-Nimblefoot. ((7 PM EST, today on Wednesday the 5th of April, 2023. Located in Bywater, the home of the halflings on Almaris))
  4. [!] All registered Bywater Adventurers and other interested parties receive a letter in their aviary mailbox! A Chill, Ordinary Gathering ~A chill time in the tavern, perfectly ordinary~ Although there are rumors that the world is ending, and although we've faced many cult problems, we've yet to gather together the ol' Adventurers to face these threats! Let's us gather together as Adventurers and comrades once again to talk about and organize against these new threats! Of course, nothing bad will actually be happening (I promise!), so no need to get too worried! It'll be just a perfectly ordinary Adventurer meetup with nothing going awry whatsoever! ~Mimosa Applefoot, Mayor of Bywater. ((6 PM EST, Tomorrow on Sunday the 2nd of April, 4/2/2023. Located in Bywater, the home of the halflings on Almaris. Directions: ))
  5. [!] You find a strange letter in your aviary mailbox OREN IS BACK! Due to recent events, it is clear to us that the seat of Horen is in the wrong hands, thusly the Kingdom of Bywater is to act upon its hereditary claim to the title of Holy Orenian Empire, the Weefolk due to their longer lifespans are far closer descendants to the father of all mankind therefore we shall rule in his name. From this day onward we are hereby the Holy Orenian Empire, let any that challenge our claim do so infront of GOD in the field of battle. Ave Orenia, Ave Knox, Ave Bywater! ~Emperor Cyris the First, Legitimate Ruler of the Imperial-Halfling Empire

  7. [!] Another notice is pinned to the Bywater Notice Tree "Loo lads! Let's go make some fancy soaps so we can keep the village smelling nice! I'll provide the wood ash!" -Mimosa Applefoot" ((7 pm est, tomorrow on Thursday the 30th of March, 3/30/2023))
  8. [!] A simple note is pinned to the notice tree of Bywater “T’is time to harvest the fields! All of our ploughing, planting, and weeding labors have led up to this moment! Grab your scythe and make Bywater proud!” ((8 pm est, today on Monday the 27th of March, 2023))
  9. It is completely and utterly not MissToni's job to give Charlemagne an avenue for forgiveness. He has to seek that himself.
  10. [!] Yet more halfling propaganda enters your aviary mailbox The Cult Fails Again! ~Victory with little bloodshed! A lovely thing to be had~ Once again, the iblees-worshipping cultists tried to kidnap, loot, and destroy us innocent halflings of Bywater! Once again, they have failed! Three big-folk cultists in black armor rode into the shire, seeking to catch us off guard. However, when the other halflings and adventurers came back to the Village Hall, two of the cultists ran for the hillside, abandoning the third to his fate! In a display of cowardice, the last cultist grabbed a nearby halfling to serve as a hostage to negociate his freedom (poor Alculf!). He was cornered, beaten back, and his captive freed with no casualties to speak of! Once defeated, he groveled and begged for our mercy. He was revealed to be but a child, nay older than fifteen to sixteen or so, wearing a warrior's armor (such a shame that the cultists resort to Child Soldiers!). He broke down into tears and begged for forgiveness. This forgiveness was granted to him by the all-merciful halfling state. Although he threatened to kill poor ol' Alculf, he is now sorry (or so he claims) for what he's done. He wrote this apology to us: If he is found in Bywater again, we will not be so merciful! Knox rewards those who keep promises! ~Mimosa Applefoot, Mayor of Bywater.
  11. Mimosa Applefoot chuckles "T'ese bandi's are somefin' else, oi swear t'ae Knox"
  12. [!] Halfling propaganda finds its way into your aviary mailbox THE CULT FAILS! ~The entrance tunnel that the kidnappers hid in now lies vacant of evildoers~ Today, let it be known that the Iblees-worshipping cult of kidnappers and scoundrels have been thwarted! They tried to attack us, but, seeing our superior numbers and the great skill of our friendly big-folk adventurers, they tucked their tails between their legs and RAN all the way to the safety of the monk lands where we could no longer find them. Those who prey on the weak are themselves even weaker! Bywater stands strong! ~Mimosa Applefoot-Nimblefoot, Mayor of Bywater.
  13. @ErosTea your building skills far surpass anyone else i've seen so far
  14. [!] You find a letter in your aviary mailbox Shovel Training! ~The shogging logs and training dummies of Bloomerville, a village from a time long past~ With the recent threats of KIDNAPPING and IBLEESIAN CULTISTS in Bywater, we must defend ourselves as best we can! These foul bigguns wish to scour our shire, rip up all of our burrows and fields, and replace them with casinos, shops, and the evils of industry! Next Pumpkin Day will be spent solely on training our shovel combat skills and preparing traps and other defenses to protect Bywater from these evildoers! Halfling ingenuity shall prevail! Knox bless Bywater! -Mimosa Applefoot-Nimblefoot, Mayor of Bywater. ((Event Tomorrow, 8 PM EST, Thursday the 23rd of March, 3/23/2023. Located in Bywater, the home of the halflings on Almaris.))
  15. This is a good idea. Honestly IRP ways to send messages/information should be expanded just to get players off of discord and onto the server if they want to know what is happening.
  16. Read books. Play other games. Watch movies and shows. If LOTC is your only media engagement you will soon run dry of inspiration. For people who really tryhard LOTC in order to get more activity or grow a community, it can feel like using your free time on non-LOTC stuff is a waste. That is not true. Don’t be that person who plays for 50 hours a week without developing your character or any narratives in that time due to chronic burnout.

    Events

I’m weird in that I like “non-event events” in which players gather to Roleplay the daily lives of their characters instead of any specific festival/CRP fight/wedding/whatever. I call these SoL hours and run them in Bywater every so often. They are a lot like non-event roleplays but more structured and with a focus on actually doing the tasks your character would do in a typical day instead of just lazing around in a tavern. I find this sort of event to be useful in encouraging players to think of their characters’ mundane lives and expand their characters’ personalities beyond just how they react to dangerous situations and how they prefer their alcohol.

They have grown over anew and must be cut down if we are to have a successful harvest! -Mimosa Applefoot, Mayor of Bywater" ((6 PM EST tomorrow, Sunday March 19th of 2023, in Bywater, the home of the halflings))
  19. PRO TIP: You don't have to build literally every possible home, public amenity, and event site for your city in the pre-build. People can still build stuff after the map has gone live. There will be nodes centralized in one location for easier building material access as well as (potentially) paid LC. You don't need to do massive terraforming projects. You don't need to make an insane 11/10 quality front page of PlanetMinecraft capitol building. It is totally viable to start the map with just some starter homes, a tavern, a barracks, and some shops surrounded by walls and expand from there. It's better to be too small at the beginning and quickly expand to meet your housing needs than it is to be too large at map launch such that it's hard to find RP. I get that we as LOTCers are very proud of our capital settlements and wish for them to be as perfect as possible as quickly as possible, but if doing so stresses you out then you're trying too hard and should scale back your plans a little.
  20. every time I see rivers that flow through multiple Y levels I cri knowing that boats will just sink when traveling through them at least it looks very, very nice aesthetically
  21. been waiting on this dang, hope 9.0 launch goes smoothly! It'll certainly be better than the Almaris launch at the very least due to not having us stuck in a copper age at the beginning of it!
