It had been many years since the sons of Horen had walked upon the hallowed ground of the Imperial Palace. As the pilgrims gathered for congregation, the wind howled around them and the air was thick with mourning and remembrance for the once mighty Empire. As the skies grew darker, Bishop Virosi led the congregation in the Hymn of Saint Godfrey as Father Balthazar prepared himself to address the congregation.

As the Hymn of Saint Godfrey ended, the Father looked around him and began to speak. His voice echoing off the ancient room around the pilgrims.

“With sincerity of heart and Exalted Benediction in the glorious favor of the Creator, the humble servants Father Balthazar and Bishop Fabian of the City of Vekaro and the Diocese of Salvus; Greetings, faithful!”

As the Father ends his opening statement, the sky and clouds around them begin to darken, although a great storm is coming. Balthazar looks up, recollecting himself and continuing to speak.

“It is with great solemnity and hope for the future that We address you today. We have received jubilant news that the Court of Regents will soon declare the leader of our especially favored and holy nation. As we look upon the heretical disorder that the presumptions of the Usurper brought, we must recall the example of St. Godfrey the Great, who crafted a righteous Empire of Man from the disparate human kingdoms. We also recall the favor of the Creator upon St. Godfrey, which manifested in the form of continuous and unbroken communication between that emperor and our Lord. Divine inspiration of this kind gives us the knowledge that St. Godfrey was an Exalted, a king among saints.”

A howling wind began to blow through the old hall as the Father spoke, whipping tattered banners back and forth violently. The wind died down as abruptly as it had begun, the Father again speaks as the wind dies down.

“We stand now in the chamber from which He directed an empire of global prominence, which took with its soldiers the truth of the Faith, and rescued many pagan elves and dwarves from the damnation of Iblees. Let us hope that the Court of Regents is wise in its decision, and takes into account the noble example of St. Godfrey when choosing from among the candidates.”

Balthazar pauses at that, no strange interruptions occuring. He smiles to the congregation, nodding to Bishop Virosi and continuing.

“We must pray, children.

Let our prayer guide the Court in making a righteous decision. And now, We shall look to our brothers in the Creator, the faith militant; these sentinels of piety have oft-”

Suddenly the wind became fierce, drowning out the Father’s voice as he begins the prayer with the congregation. The sky darkened as the clouds began to part above the pilgrims, an awe-inspiring holy light cascading down from the Heavens toward the assembled. A choir of angels pour out of the opening, trumpets and various other instruments in hand as they played the anthem of the King of Kaedrin for all assembled to hear The music intensified as the Emperor of Man, Godfrey I descended from the opening, slowly looking over the assembled men. Saint Godfrey descended from the Heavens, a glorious holy light shining down from the sky upon him as the clouds part. Saint Godfrey himself descended from the skies, looking down at the assembled men before him.

In what seemed to be an old and tired voice, the Saint utters but one word “Peter.” The sound echoes throughout the hall, many pilgrims falling to their knees overwhelmed with joy and pride as the Emperor speaks to them.

And then, as quickly as he appeared, the Emperor was gone. The skies returned to normal, the wind died down, and only the light of the moon lit the ruined palace. Father Balthazar and Bishop Virosi are overcome with emotion, pausing for a moment to pray fiercely before continuing.

Bishop Virosi composed himself and lead the pilgrims in the Hymn of The True Creator as thanks for his glorious vision. As the Father dismissed the pilgrims to return to their homes, chants of “Ave Orenia, Ave Kaedrin, Ave Chivay!” ring out through the old Imperial Halls. The Chosen Son of God had spoken, Peter Chivay was to lead the Kingdom of Oren as decreed by Emperor Godfrey.

((Was a really fun event to run, me and Viros had a hell of a time organizing it. Thanks to all the people involved who helped me out and organized it on such short notice, especially Mog.))

Excitement grips the heart of Oren, from the lowest plebeian to the greatest highlord descended of Imperial greatness not long forgotten.  It incites jolts of electricity in the hearts of men once again as it had in the old days.  The Lion of Chivay had returned to guide His sons and daughters at last through the kinstrife, and there were none who could frown nor weep - sheer chills on one's spine turned tears of despair into tears of glory and prestige.  In the moment before us we are euphoric as the trumpets of Oren outring the thunder, thrice louder than they had been even in the glory days.

Vibius laughed and shouted with joy as he joined with his fellow Rose and Kaedreni veterans in their approach, due soon to bend the knee to the man they had so long ago swore oaths to: Peter Chivay.  The veterans could naught but assume grim, stern expressions as they caught sight of the old Lion's face, chiseled and masculine as it had always been, even moreso graced by the light of the Creator.  They instinctively fell into formation as the lash and scourge had well taught them.

But before the night was done, AVE KAEDRIN and DEUS MAGNUS, both terms he himself had introduced into Kaedreni rhetoric, were chanted to the most sacred of tunes ever known to the history of mankind.  Pride?  It overtook him as flame enkindles fine cedar.

Father Cordal and Father Balthazar later come together into a small, spontaneous conference. They decide upon a just, accurate and holy name for the great miracle. Henceforth it shall be known as the Succession Miracle, or the Miracle of Succession.
