Dispensation Of Sarkoz

The cool razor stung Radomir’s skin as he slid it along his face, the thick black hair of a Ruskan falling in clumps into the stone basin below. He stared into the mirror, looking at his sallow face. His eyes were sunken deep into their sockets, his prominent sideburns having been spared the knife’s kiss. The left side of his face had improved somewhat, the blotches of dark crimson and the dullness of his left eye the only remaining signs of his old burn wound, delivered to him in a skirmish with an apostate mage.

Oren was beset by heathens and traitors. The ‘esteemed’ Tarus dynasty - a line of prostitutes and elves - would have assaulted Oren, killing its peasantry and stealing the throne, but more importantly they would have relinquished the Old Faith of the blessed Creator and adopted their modern tripartite heathenry, all the while dismantling his papacy.

He had spent hours and hours reflecting and meditating. Why had he been chosen by God to be head of the Faith? His efforts had so far proven either wholly fruitless or complete failures. He had begun in his position as an idealistic young man who desired to reform the Church, and now he would finish in it as a disappointment. He could feel the regret in eyes of both his people and his father whenever they looked upon him. It had never been like that when his first prelate was around, no. But without the whispered counsel of Bishop Zacarias, Radomir Carrion was nothing.

Radomir was a man, just like any other, and he was fallible. He had made many mistakes in his day, and now it was time to atone for them. There was much and more reflection to be done, and God’s work still needed to be performed, albeit not with him in charge.

By the morn, he had taken his brother Otto's former steed and disappeared without notice, a hooded pilgrim who had made away in the night without any farewells. His last command, his last order, rested on his bare desk.

Attention!

The High Ecclesiarch, Radomir I Carrion, hereby relinquishes his papal name and position to go on a great pilgrimage to the ancestral lands of the Raev people. His successor as both Archbishop of Oren and High Ecclesiarch is to be Father Rags Yates, taking the papal name of Alexios I. He is to be swiftly anointed into both of these positions by the esteemed Bishop John of Darfey, as is customary, and is to serve as grand autocrat of the Faith.

Deus magnus!

His Imperial Highness, Franz Joseph  (Frmrly. Radomir)  Carrion, Crown Prince of Oren.

The dormant and whiskful halls which Ostromir once called home now lay damp and empty, where Ostromir and Franz spent many hours together now lay empty and septic. The flickering flame of the single candle lighting the room bounced the shadows across the painted landscape. Radomir sulking stalked the ounce bountiful halls of this barren palace.

The now aged figure neared the room that his brother once called his own, as his cold hands grasped the frozen handle he recalled the same motion which he would have done not years ago. Where he would meet his brother for the morn, and bask in the endless efforts the two could go. The mere achievement that they could reach, if they put there mind to it. All of this, yet lost in a single moment. Franz lost his closest ally, his friend, his brother. The guilt which become him met no other, for an instant he could recall the days of his youth. The days in which he looked up to Ostromir, and followed him and Tuvya to Renatus.

The meaningless titles and politics had got the best of him, he assured himself. That he was not fit for this, that he would rather be one with the Creator. Owyn said the same, that he had wished he never achieved the Pontificate. The dreary dark garmet which he wore bear no gratitude to his family, he felt only shame for he could no achieve more.

As the blackness began to take the room, he took a single gaze at the room which he felt at the heart of it. The room which his brother proclaimed himself the soul of the Kingdom, and the single ruler of Anthos. In that, he felt almost at peace with himself.

Kaelys raises an eyebrow at this news. He knew the church was in trouble, but he did not expect them to be so low as to give this rarely seen priest this position. Truly, trouble is afoot.

Rags sniffles, he was a fairly active priest. Sniffle Sniffle.

Amber looked down, where she still awaited at the gates of Heaven, waiting her judgement to be confirmed. It seemed, that her conclusion, was not that dissimilar to the one she used to be betrothed to.

The Archbishop Castus II squints at the name, withholding judgement on the new pontiff named Rags, and mutters to himself,"If this is what must be to restore the Faith to the hearts and minds of the chosen race, so be it. The Church most dearly needs a revival, for the sake of the empire."  Castus hopes that this new High Ecclesiarch will be more effective than the last, but is saddened by the departure of a zealous soul from the folds of the clergy.

John looks over to Castus "No brother we shall not allow this priest to become High Pontiff, tis a mockery of Synod, a priest becoming High Pontiff and ignoring the bishops and Archbishops" he shakes his head.

Prelate Signus Cross crosses his fingers with his calculating mind working on how he may manipulate the situation. Though it seemed rather odd seeing this new usurper wasn't elected at all, he decided to think on more pressing topics. Such as when he shall return from his voyage and finally begin reviving the church again. (The letter of this came to him while he was vacationing on a small island fairly far away from civilization.)

Edward is curious about the validity of the appointment, thinking back to how church law dictates these things be done.

Castus nods sourly, "This is true, Radomir should have convened an ecclesiastical council to choose amongst ourselves, but how do we approach this situation without causing a schism within the Faith?"

Signus Cross then recalls the fact that only one book of Canon Law has ever been written, the author having died. The one book of Canon Law never specified elections at all. In the end there is no way to go about this whole business. He quickly gets out pen and ink and writes to all the notable high ranking members of the clergy the following.

"Dear -insert name-,

We are regarded with a sour situation. Which the High Ecclesiarch has chosen a successor to his throne, much like a king would. But we are not kings. We are the most divine institution, and our leader must be chosen from among the most pure and holy men. I say that we nay dispose this current pope. But instead to deal with the situation, hold an ecclesiastical council to finish drafting the Canon Law so that this may never happen again.

From,

His Grace Prince-Abbot Signus Cross."

Alexios thinks that the High Ecclesiarch abolished the elective succession and made it by appointed or bloodline succession.
