Hello all :)

After a period of long discussion between a few staff members and myself, we have arrived at the winners of the Tutorial Zone contest! If you missed the thread for contest, check it out here:

[Official Server Contest] 4.0 Tutorial Zone Design - VIP Prizes!

Essentially, we were looking for entries that expressed creativity, had an easy and simple route to follow, and actually provided a hands-on way for players to learn the functions of the server as opposed to reading signs alone. Some of the entries met all of these details, some of them met none, while others yet met only one or two. Regardless, all entries were fairly judged, and each participant should be proud of their work! Anyways without further ado, here are the winners!

Third Place

Pok!

When 4.0 begins, you will be given 1000 minas on top of the cap to help you on your journey! Find his entry here:

Pok's entry

Though this entry depicted a Tutorial Zone that contained a branching path, rather than a linear one, and relied on signs and information over experience and hands-on trials, it made up for it by being solid and detailed. As opposed to many of the other entries, it was very clear what exactly Pok wanted in this Tutorial Zone, and we knew exactly how he wanted to do it. The idea of providing external sources in the Tutorial Zone to allow players to expand their knowledge further on a specific subject was both intriguing and creative, and it is something we may pursue in the Tutorial Zone that will be present in 4.0!

P.S. He also gets props for being the first person to have posted an entry! Others have entries that precede his on the thread, but they were edited in while his was the first. This did not affect the decision, however, but it's worth mentioning!

Congrats Pok!

Second Place

Oskar!

PM me when you get the chance and you will be promoted to the appropriate VIP level. Additionally, when 4.0 begins you will be given 1500 minas on top of the cap to help you on your journey! Find his entry here:

Oskar's entry

This entry depicts a very linear and easy to follow route that will make it simple for new players to navigate their way through the Tutorial Zone. Additionally, each area in Oskar's Zone provides hands-on experience in regards to the area's specified function. Want to learn how the magic plugin works? Go to the Wizard's Tower and test some spells out! Want to familiarize yourself with our mining system? Go to the Mining Zone and learn all about how to mine while swinging your pickaxe! If this full integration of server functions into the Tutorial Zone's areas was not his original intention, call it a lucky mistake, because we love the idea! Our only complaint is the seemingly needless branching out pattern at the end of the path, though that is something that could easily be done away with.

Congrats Oskar!

First Place

Dolly

PM me when you get the chance and you will be promoted to the appropriate VIP level. Additionally, when 4.0 begins you will be given 2000 minas on top of the cap to help you on your journey! Find her entry here:

Dolly's entry

At first glance, the drawing makes Dolly's Tutorial Zone appear to be an unorganized clutter of rooms. However, after close inspection it is realized that the path is actually very linear and easy to follow. My one complaint is the branching pattern of the racial rooms, which could be condensed into a single room to continue the linear progression of the zone, and this single room would provide general details on all of the races (This is because a camp will be present in the actual spawn of 4.0 that will go into detail on the races, similar to the Aegis one right next to the Cloud Temple steps). Despite this, Dolly's entry was easily one of the most creative ones in the selection. I especially loved the idea of creating an actual environment for the individual rooms, such as the "Chaos Room" which had players walking through a griefed world to show everyone visually what we considered griefing as well as emphasizing what would happen were we to rid the server of rules and regulations. Creative, hands-on, and (mostly) linear. What more could we ask for in a Tutorial Zone?

Congrats Dolly!

Honorable Mentions

Shiftnative - His entry was rather good, but his mention stems from the fact that he was one of the only ones (if not the only one) to provide a 100% linear Tutorial Zone progression route. Good job on that!

Lego XBOX - His entry wasn't linear like Shift's, but I can't argue with the creativity that was present in it! Relying on pillars and archipelagos, providing "broken bridges" to signify plugins that will be released in the future, and of course floating islands. Can't go wrong there, huh?

Spike823 - His entry offered quests and other hands-on activities, which is something we were looking for. However, the real source of this mention stems from Spike's creativity. He managed to incorporate an entire Tutorial Zone... into the back of a giant turtle! Props on "Turtle-ial Island", my friend!

For the final Tutorial Zone that will be seen in 4.0, we will be taking the best of each of these entries. Each had their faults, yet each had their strengths as well, and we plan on combining the best of all of them into one Tutorial Zone that will provide everything anyone could ever want as a struggling nooblet!

Dolly is a girl.

Did I say he? I'll fix that.

EDIT:

Ah, I copy pasted the prize sentence from the previous winner, hence why it said "his". Probably should have proofread that bit ^^
