Public ban reports are one of the only of the few interesting addition to the forums.

Why are they interesting? You find it entertaining to watch people bicker and squabble over **** that should stay private? That's kinda...the reason they shouldn't be public.

People might have evidence against the ban-report or for it, yet for the person who is making it would refuse to invite them to the conversation. Besides that, the people that have evidence for or against the ban-report might not even know it exists, which could alter whether it's accepted or not.

Those who write the ban report are required to put any witnesses into it. If the person being banned has witnesses, they can add people to the conversation. Whether private or public, those involved in the immedite attack will generally know there is a BR going up. It helps if they PM one of the two players to say "hey invite me to the BR if one goes up".

honestly you can look at the screenshots usually for witnesses.

And those of you saying "Its for entertainment" shame on you honestly. You are the reason some of this want BRs to become private. It causes too much OOC drama and stirs the pot too much. It also removes the unnecessary flamey status updates about "So and so should be banned" or  "Ha! so and so got banned!"

*grumbles about something after*

You shouldn't even invite "13" others to this silly affair. It promotes clique mentality, but I guess I speak that having suffered over TS3 hate-spewing by children who have no manners, nor decency, nor social skills enough to see the ludicrous pettiness of "raging on the internet". Rules need to be strict on the Game Mod contacted, he/she has to keep it completely secret and any proof that arises that said GM wants to gossip like a douchebag spells out immediate expulsion.

I have seen enough ban reports and made enough that I hate going to the forums to post one. I see one in recent topics and feel bad. Not just for the person reporting but also the person being reported.

Having it private makes things less messy and less inclined to bring more drama.

"OMG! Did you see the BR on Bob?"

"Yeah. What a total jerk! How could he say those roses are white. He obviously needs to be banned."

-gm doesnt ban-

"OMG! That GM must be so biased to go ahead and let him get away with that!"

this is the type of conversation I hear on TS or in game. Private BRs and Appeals can also make GMs look less biased when they make a decision. Not everyone is going to agree with the GM, but it cuts down on the sass and back talk from others when only those who are in BR are the ones irritated with the decision.

Shift, I appreciate that. I would love to keep BRs quiet.

Appeals should also be quiet as they can be for the smallest thing, such as you accidently left a floating tree. The appeal for that shouldnt be made public. Just PM the GM and the one who made the BR with the apology, show you are sincere, then be on your merry way. Heck even just PMing the GM that banned you should be enough.

I think this should become a regular thing. If people like the drama, then start RPing more. Drama is something you can include in your RP, and will make it flavorful. If you want outside RP drama, go to your Facebook. Plenty happens on that website. Besides, GMs get negative treatment, and unnecessary rumors spread when it is all public. I have seen this unfair treatment towards GMs even when they were right in their decisions (which is the majority of the time)

This is probably one of the best ideas I have seen in a while. Nice job Jade!

It's not the bickering that's interesting. That's boring. I skip over it. It's the GM stepping in with an unbiased verdict and seeing what's going to get down. Since nowadays no one gets banned, revoked, or anything and gets slaps on the wrists, I guess it's not that interesting anymore.

Reports: Yes

Appeals: No

This might sound a tad bit bonkers but the community should be able to see who the heck you're just allowing back in.

Having never been the subject of or reporter of a ban report I have only witnessed the problems and I say YES. +1

I like the spirit of this idea as a means to minimize drama, although if I were a group leader, I'd want to know if I was recruiting a member that had a history of problematic behavior. I'd also want to know if a member of staff had offenses that had been swept under the rug. I'm all about being up front and public about ****-ups, and we've had a long and lengthy history of Admins and GMs mishandling the hell out of ban reports and appeals and the consequences thereof, so I feel that publicly displaying all of these things serves as a solid means of checks and balances for us as players to keep our staff members in check on their decisions. It's also a solid way for our staff to maintain the trust of the community they serve.

Primarily for this reason, a healthy distrust of the staff in general based on previous offenses, I am against privatizing ban reports and appeals. If I were a staff member I would feel the same way. It's mutually beneficial to everyone here that we just be open and honest about everything.

This isn't intended to bash the staff, I like quite a few of you guys, but it's a valid point that has to be raised. I'm sure many of us can remember, in vivid detail, instances where the details of various staff members' and players' offenses were obscured and we didn't offer transparency and the **** storm that followed. Let's not go back down that road.

Good call, as usual *winkyface*
