Splitchris 11 Share Posted January 14, 2014 The New Norwegian Kingdom - Short Update As the fighting breaks out between the Bismarck and the Norwegian corvette, the 2nd in command becomes captain in mere seconds as the bullet slams into the previous captain's cranium. He goes into cover to avoid being taken out as well, and starts coordinating the surprised crew. Semi-auto rifles are passed along and crewmembers are ordered to concentrate fire on the small cannon and bridge of the carrier, whilst a group of 3 rushed to man the 75mm cannon on deck, an electric buzz sounds as the big turret swings around and takes aim at the carrier bridge. The cannon only has two crates of shells and is old, yet the visual effect of having a 75mm cannon's muzzle pointed at them would be enough to thoroughly intimidate anyone aboard the carrier. A message booms from the corvette's speakers: "Cease fire immediately! We mean no harm and were unaware of your presence, yet should you continue your fire we will be forced to respond with heavier hardware." Meanwhile, up North in the capital, King Olav VI ponders on how to deal with the repair of the oil rig's drill, when an old man, having heard of the discovery, seeks his audience. The man tells of how he remembers a technology used a long time ago on oil rigs for exactly the kind of repairs the Kingdom was facing. It involved a pressurized chamber that was lowered deep into the water and had a hole in the bottom, yet the area inside the chamber did not fill with water because of the air within it. Inside, one or two divers in heavy metal suits were seated, and once deep enough, they would get out and conduct the repairs. Sure enough, after a bit of a dit around, a Royal scientist finds a book depicting and describing this method. Construction of such a chamber and two deep sea suits begin, and hopefully The New Norwegian Kingdom would soon possess the precious black gold again. xboxersz 222 Share Posted January 14, 2014 ============New Baltania=============== The nuclear apocalypse hit the Baltic states hard. Massive flooding waged away many buildings and cities. But among the ashes of the old UBR, a new civilization is formed. After the war, tribes sprouted up all over the Baltic nations. These tribes slowly built small towns and cities, and met with each other. The tribes agreed to trade with each other, and help each other out in a time of need. Small ships crossed the Baltic, connecting Finland with the other Baltic countries. Riga became a central trade hub for materials and food. Eventually, the leader of the largest tribe called a conclave with all the others. The leader called for an merging of the tribes, under one banner of peace and unity. The time came to choose a leader came, and nuclear physicist Leopold Slate was elected by the tribes, and he established a technocracy. A ruling council will advise the President, Leopold Slate, on all matters of state. The council consists of: -A politician -A chemist -A psychologist -A physicist -A geologist -A biologist -A lawyer -A technician, and an engineer. Next on Leopold's list is to establish borders. New Baltania claims the old borders of the United Baltic Republic, and plans to mark the borders with a steel cable. A census is taken, listing the population as 200,000. Out of these people, 70,000 will work on farms. The 20,000 children are taken from their parents homes to be educated, and are provided with housing and food. The Baltic military is formed, made up of 20,000 full time soldiers, 10,000 border patrol guards, and 2,000 police officers. These men and women are equipped with an odd mixture of swords, axes, shields, pistols, semi-automatic rifles, and a few automatic weapons. Border guards are given horses to ride, but the rest of the military is given wagons with no pack animal. Fuel is salvaged but is kept by the government. About 50 cars are in government service. New Baltania is divvied up into 7 regions, each with a certain job and specialty. Each region is assigned 28,000 people, with the exception of Riga, which gets 32,000. The regions are: Lapland: Mining. Oula: Timber. Southern Finland: Agriculture. Estonia: Agriculture, and mining for oil shale and peat. Latvia: Clay, cement, gravel, and sand. Lithuania: Agriculture. Riga: Industry and administration. A group of a hundred mounted soldiers and several diplomats is sent to Sweden, searching for a civilization. 50 explorers are sent to Rukla, home to the Lithuanian Iron Wolf Motorised Brigade. They come in 15 cars, and carry fuel with them for use in their cars, and use in any vehicles they may find in Rukla. Technicians and soldiers are sent to the Plavinas Hydro Power plant in Latvia. They plan on fixing the old plant to generate power for Latvia and Riga. ((4 pages.)) 100 men on horses are sent with a steel cable, to mark the borders of New Baltania. ((2 pages.)) _pok_ 1768 Author Share Posted January 14, 2014 The Sons of Arminius As the city of Koblenz and Heidelberg are connected via railroad, new deer stands and fences are constructed on the northern most border, the Governor seeing no point in expanding any further North. The Rhine was too radiated and the winters too harsh for sustained living. Work begins just north of Koblenz at the junction of the Rhine and Moselle of a hydroelectric energy plant. Primitive at best, the concept should be able to power most of the Rhine-Palatinate province. Smaller, more primitive wooden watermills power factories, which were constructed strategically along the river. The first of two iron mines is opened along the Moselle, as well as a copper mine. The resources, once mined, are loaded into boxcars and trains speed off to Heidelberg and the surrounding areas, being stockpiled in guarded armories. An old DLR research site in Frankfurt is the target of a scouting party which was sent off by the Department of Defense, hoping to find what could be the key to manufacturing steel. Governor Arminius looks to the south, desiring where he might be able to make further contact with the outside world. More broadcasts are projected in all directions, desperately trying to make contact with a stronger faction than those they currently face. *~ Mini Mod Post ~* The Kingdom of Norway The attackers from the Bismarck lower their weapons, waving a black and red flag to signify. The Army is not to siege Moscow. The 4 tanks are brought up to operational status as they rollout with the army. As the Army leaves, those drafted and volunteered have finished their training and are put into service to defend the town. 36,000 now remain to defend the town, the bulk of the army only being recently trained and inexperienced in real combat. The Chinese workers are kept well with housing as trade and transport is cut off between China and Russia The State orders that 40% of the production from this mine is to be stockpiled. 5678 260 Share Posted January 14, 2014 The runner team sent to the East Coast never returns, so it is deemed that the area will be too dangerous to travel to. The 20 or so men that came in contact with the Nomad's bodies are quarantined, the officers waiting to see what happens to them. It is ruled that the CDC will be explored. Ten criminals are sent into the compound, armed with clubs and crowbars. If they survived, found something, and then remained in quarantine for three months, they would be fully pardoned and accepted as heroes in the society. The men from Nueva Habana are welcomed to the City State, and it is agreed to trade coal and some iron for the goods of the Islanders. Further talks of a more established trade agreement between the two areas would be proposed. The runners sent towards the West coast return, speaking of another society living in what was once Washington. Envoys are sent to see if the people are friendly, and might wish to trade. The Port city of Newcastle is founded. It will be inhabited by about 15,000 people, most of whom will be sailors. The city state intends to use the Great Lakes as a stepping stone to overseas trade. Conditions of the area was notoriously hygienic, the government does not want some sort of new epidemic to break out. With the help of the book taken from the library, a few engineers study the design of a windmill that would generate electricity. It is expected to take quite a while ((5 pages)) Scavengers are sent to the public library of the South district in Chicago, hopefully it'll be filled with more than just two books this time. magister 11 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Maven Dominion The Maven Dominion had originally been founded by Christofer Mave, almost forty years ago. He had originally come to power in the ruins of Toulouse after taking control one of the minor factions there. The story goes that he somehow bested two of the largest factions in the city through a clever ambush, after which he had nearly uncontested reign of the entire area. Christofer formed the Maven Dominion soon after and named Toulouse his capital. Eventually, his influence spread into the nearby ruined cities of Barcelona and Marseilles. Christofer died a few years later, leaving the entirety of the Dominion to his son, Samuel Mave, who still was in charge today. Toulouse, Barcelona, and Marseilles were all affected from the Last War, though they had not been targeted. Much of the cities remained intact, with overgrowth slowly reclaiming the former marks of civilization over the decades. Samuel Mave in particular wanted to return the cities to their former glory. One-hundred-twenty thousand of the nearly five-hundred thousand citizens of the Dominion were pressed into some form of military service under his rule, the majority of them organized into parties for a massive scavenging effort of the outlying areas. Military-grade weapon caches from nations of old were found, former museums and police stations were ransacked, and anything of use was taken back to the cities. As such, many troops carried old Lee-Enfields and Lebels. The most elite troops carried the few automatic weapons in the Dominion's possession; G3A3 and FAMAS rifles, with a select few wielding G36E rifles. However, the majority of the forces used some sort of spear or short-sword, as ammunition was scarce. The once-bustling ports of Marseilles and Barcelona had been more-or-less repaired, with rusted, but still functioning, antique ships organized into a motley navy. The Dominion even possessed an old Aircraft Carrier, though it lacked a propeller and any form of aircraft besides three Helicopters. The majority of citizens in the Dominion not involved in the military worked in the major reconstruction efforts going on in all three cities, especially Barcelona and Toulouse. The crumbling skyscrapers in these two cities in particular were a constant reminder of the grand nations that once existed there. A few primitive manufacturies have been constructed over the years, primarily based out of Barcelona, though some existed in Toulouse as well. They primarily repaired scavenged items and old tools at the moment. Marseilles, on the other hand, provided most of the agricultural goods in the Dominion. The mass flooding had left behind rich sediments allowing for crops of potatoes, cabbages, and various grains. However, the floods had also left it's fair share of pollutants, of which were still an issue. Some land was still radioactive. Strangely enough, the citizens of the Maven Dominion used an amalgamation of the old French and Spanish languages, of which they called Maven. It was surprisingly elegant-sounding, though almost barbarically brief and to the point. When radio signals were picked up from the Sons of Arminius, they were unable to understand the messages, though Samuel Mave was excited by the news of fellow survivors and immediately began attempting communications with them. bickando 3967 Share Posted January 15, 2014 The Kingdom of Neo Sweden The New Norwegian Kingdom is sent a radio message back with an acceptance of the defensive and trade pact, and an outline of her direct descendance from Queen Estelle, the last Queen of Sweden. To the other Swedish states, many figures of iron engraved with jewels are sent on large trade caravans, showing its domestic power. The offer is sweetened again with Neo Sweden offering to allow the false kings and queens to stay as barons, counts, and dukes of their provinces, and Neo Sweden then says that if they do not comply, it would end badly for Sweden as a whole. The spies implanted in those states two ((pages, forgot how long each page is)) ago have been met with varying success; some have risen to very high, while some only about the middle. The government has only two factories that are functional, one producing clothing and the other refining iron. Many iron mines are still open, however, and are being used. The New Baltanian representatives are walking through the Neo Swedish countryside, and before they realize it a massive force of a thousand equipped raid soldiers jump them. The hundred men and diplomat are slaughtered without mercy, and so quickly they cannot even radio in that they are being attacked. The Neo Swedish army statistics are: 1 ship with 1 cannon. 10,000 peacekeepers stationed in the various towns and cities 20,000 raid-soldiers, protecting the borders and raiding enemy encampments at the same time. ((xboxershortz, the UBR population as a whole before the war was about half of Sweden. You having such a large population doesn't make sense, as it still would have been affected and had a lower population to begin with. Also, I should think that the entire area would not be so easily reunited after 200 years of almost no civilization.))
Zanderaw 162 Share Posted January 15, 2014 The Republic of Kuanesh The lush, overgrown ruins of Jakarta loom constantly on the horizon, for those in Garuda. Over the years since the city's founding, the people of the republic have glimpsed for the first time the majesty of their ancestors. It drives them, holds them to a higher standard. The beloved president who led his people out from the vault finally dies in office, and his son and prodigy is elected for the next term. President Gema Alatas, a large, proud man, wastes no time in making his mark upon the nation. Garuda is easily kept to the standards of the republic, with clean streets, efficient farms, and adequate defenses. A thriving fishing business has by now given rise to a new seaport, one that is filled daily with white sails. It is from this port that the republic once more sets out to fulfill its destiny. As the capital brims with population, public pressure to expand increases, and the government consents happily. Several small colonies are set up across the now mostly explored island of Sumatra, and in the interest of creating more, armed exploration parties are sent to the remains of New Guinea, where the president hopes to find a passable entrance to old Indonesian underground structures: it is well recorded in the vault layouts that New Guinea was the location of many copper and gold mines. In a similar vein, colonization vessels sail south towards the remains of Australia, armed with maps of old iron and coal mines. Their goal: find at least one usable location of each, and barring that, find a suitable place to begin mining anew. Mod Actions Cuba The sloops land on the Yucatan coast without issue, but as the exploration crews venture inward, it becomes clear that something is very wrong. Back on the ships, weeks pass, and supplies dwindle. Just as they are about to set off, two survivors emerge from the jungle, one of them badly wounded. They tell how the party was ambushed, and almost all of them killed by fierce warriors who wield strange obsidian-edged blades, along with the occasional rifle. The survivors, they say, were taken to a great city, where they were hauled to the top of a massive stone structure, and one by one sacrificed to some barbarian god. Their hearts were cut out still beating, they say, with jagged knives. Of how they themselves escaped, they say little, but the captains of the sloops set sail for home as quickly as they can. Texas Rangers The search of the libraries turns up little other than old maps, but one officer is very interested in something he finds, an analysis of Pueblo Indian tactics, with an emphasis on modern adaptations. He decides to incorporate some of the lessons into his own command, and if he rises in rank they could become even more widespread. The City State Most of the books in the library have rotted away after 300 years in a humid climate. The scouts are able to salvage more detailed maps, and interestingly enough, a partial account of the Ascardians, and their arrival on Earth. Sweden Little progress is made in diplomacy with the other Swedish states, who correspond with each other regularly and view the would-be ruler as an upstart. A new approach may be required. ((Just so we're all clear, every page is two months. Take this into account in your actions.)) New map
tnoy23 202 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Hanford Diplomatic / Domestic events As the City-States envoys near, they would be greeted by walls of crude metal plates with crude barbed wire along the top, with guards patrolling it. Upon speaking to the guards, the gates would open, an armed guard coming out and greeting the group. Upon hearing of their quest and story, the guards states that they would need to be searched before being allowed entry. They agree ((Masky approved)) and are given a stern warning to keep all weapons put away and safety's on. The guard yells up at the guards atop the walls, and the gates open fully. A small group of 4 armed guards come forth, stating they would escort the diplomats to the leader. They set off. They pass through the market, a wide variety of things being sold. You would perhaps notice a good amount of the traders have a good amount of food, and not many people seem especially hungry. Many traders would be selling tarps or scrap cloths, many people coming by and trading. Most people would pass with a Travois. The group would eventually come to the leadership building, and be escorted in. ((Presumably PMing from here on)) Foreign / Looting / Battle events The 200 by the Neo Mounties await a response from the walls. ((Edited, derped earlier)) The looters in Spokane would presumably find nothing. They send 10 runners back to Hanford, which return a few days later with new orders. After some debate in the leadership, they have decided to have the group of 500 instead travel all along the Columbia river and see if any of the 7 hydroelectric dams are still in functioning state, or could be repaired. This search is expected to take quite a bit of time. ((1 page))
bickando 3967 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Kingdom of Neo Sweden mini-post (reactionary) A few days later, hearing that her efforts had failed and frustrated, looked at the map. The four countries closest to her were Vaxjo, Kalmar, Borlango, and Gaive. She ordered 3 spies in each Vaxjo and Gaive to burn any belongings except a forged id from Kalmar and Borlango respectively, and assassinate the leaders and as many heirs as possible of the two countries, the spy in Vaxjo yelling out "Hail Kalmar" then commiting suicide, and the spy in Gaive doing the same, but calling out Borlango. The trail was hidden perfectly, all messages burnt, and it is hoped that the countries would declare war on each other for killing the monarchs and heirs, At the same time 10,000 raid-soldiers coalesce at the borders of Vaxjo and Gaive, beginning to raid towns and villages. Garukumus 81 Share Posted January 15, 2014 REINO DE NUEVA HABANA The reports brought back by the remnants of the Yucatan exploration team was... Not ideal. It had been hoped that the peninsula could have been colonized by the explorers and exploited for its lumber and iron. But now, hopes rest on trade with the more friendly mainlanders, at least until a formal military can be established to destroy the barbarians. Reports from the north, however, are much better. News of a friendly city state to the north has caused mass celebrations in the honor of Infante Fernando. It has been decided that a city ought to be founded at the mouth of the Mississippi in order to better facilitate trade between the two nations. A mass emigration is to begin to spur the growth of what would become the city of San Fernando, named after the infante's patron of course. Several sloops are being sent to guard the estuary in case of any attacks. The government of Havana asks to have trade rights within the city state, and trade sugar and tobacco on a case by case basis. They also ask for military cooperation to ensure that the Mississippi river remains a safe trade route. In domestic news, the functioning and sanitary hospital has been completed, with coal generators being hooked up to use the goods which the men of the north traded for sugar and tobacco. The fishing initiative is going well in most sectors, but some of the landowners are not cooperating to their fullest potential. Armed men are being sent to their operations to ensure cooperaion. GoldenSmoof 2 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Sikh Confederacy In the Sikh Confederacy, work begins on many farms in the country, to help feed the populous. ((3 pages)) Sikh troops are sent to occupy a region of territory that was home to the former capital of Pakistan, Islamabad. The city is almost completely untouched by the Last War, and is up for grabs. The people living in the city are happy to be a part of a real civilization once more, and the city is set as the new Sikh capitol. Meanwhile on the battlefield, Kabir Gajanan orchestrated a brave Sikh assault, to drive Kalat troops out of Sikh territory, and push towards the coast, perhaps even make it there, however Kabir did not expect to reach that far. In the battle the Sikh 2nd and 3rd armies would be pitted against the Kalat 1st and 2nd armies. The Sikh 1st Army and the Kalat 4th army were both away from the frontline, recovering their strength. Orange represents the frontline before the battle began. The red is the initial moves in the battle, blue the advances as the battle progresses, purple the closing stages of the battle, and turquoise the changes in the frontline. The battle began. The Kalat 2nd Army was initially pushed far back by the Sikh 3rd Army, but then Kalat troops launched a counter-attack, regaining most of their lost ground. The Sikh 2nd Army saw complete success, however. It pushed back Kalat troops in the opening assault, then for the second advance, they had help from troops from the Sikh 3rd Army, which closed in on the Kalat flank. Kalat troops set up a desperate last defense, which Sikh troops broke through in a third and final assault. After it, Sikh troops were deemed too exhausted to move on, and the battle ended with a minor Sikh victory. The Kalat 1st Army had been beaten badly, but the Kalat 2nd Army still stood surprisingly strong, much to Kabir's dislike.

WuHanXianShi14 0 Share Posted January 15, 2014 The Neo Mounties The battle for the oil rigs is long and fierce, the initial fire spreading and disadvantage of the surprise attack resulted in the untimely deaths of nearly a third of the Mountie/Coast Salish armed forced. However under the command of Deputy Commander Sebastien Shen and a portion of the newly acquired military grade weaponry salvaged from Kelowna, the camp survives and the mysterious Albertan attacks are fended off. Casualties are thick, the total death count being nearly half of the entire force, with more injured. With victory seeming to be an impossibility now, a risky plan is assembled. A group of seven highly trained and stealth oriented Haida Gwaii tribesmen are sent back west, to Kamloops, if they made it successfully there they would call upon a force of an additional 2500 armed mounties to storm and take over the oil rigs. ((One page to get there and back with reinforcements maybe?))
