A Means To An End

Silence.  Only mere silence as Dranan looked towards his brother, Artorus the third and asked.  What he asked could change everything.  What Kayrin claimed, Artorus made him the Lord upon leaving.  Yet were this true?  From the moment Kayrin claimed this, it has been leading up to this one moment.  As the brothers simply stared at eachother, Dranan’s piercing eyes locked onto Artorus’ as he awaited the answer.

“I named no man my heir.”

As he responded a grim smile fell to Dranan, turning his gaze to the people surrounding him.  Those he trusted.  His people who are willing to die, to fight with sword in hand to their last breath.  Rose from his chair, no more than any others who sat amongst him, he spoke.

“Sons of Haren, Adunians.  Here lies with us my brother, Artorus the third, Son of Lachlan.  The last Adunian Lord.  Yet was it not Kayrin who claimed he was named the heir?  Perhaps the foolish man who lies behind his unfinished walls with an army of three has learned to deceive as Arnorian did!”

Laughter is heard around the room as Dranan motions for a young Adunian boy to bring the petition forth.  He holds it towards everyone, plain in sight.

“Twenty seven.  Twenty seven to two.  Yet he claims his people, his people wish him to stay..  What people?  This petition proves what little he have.  Truly, I would have thought this would’ve been harder.”

He would then place it onto the table, only to be taken later.

“Cirimas, send letters to the Grand King and Kayrin Earendil.  We must summon them for a meeting.”

Letter to Grand King Wulfgar Grandaxe

Your Grand Majesty Wulfgar Grandaxe,

Blessings upon your great name.  We Adunians grieve with you of the lost of Paragons Igor and Kjell Ireheart.  May their names live on for eternity. I, Cirimas II Elendil, write to you this day, the eighteenth of Sun's Smile, 1453, on behalf of my sibling Dranan,  rightful and true heir to Lachlan Mor, requesting your presence in the ruins of Dal Cais within the coming weeks, with utmost haste. A meeting is to be held, one to decide the fate of Adunia and her people, our future lies in the balance. The Council of Lords is welcomed and all whom are received will be given proper lodging for the duration of the discussions, we await your arrival.

May the Three guide your reign and gift you with wisdom and prosperity,

Cirimas II Elendil

Letter to Kayrin Hightower

Your ‘lordship’, Kayrin Hightower

I, Cirimas II Elendil, write to you on this day, the eighteenth of Sun's Smile, 1453, on behalf of my sibling Dranan, rightful and true heir to Lachlan Mor, requesting your presence in the ruins of Dal Cais within the coming weeks, with utmost haste. A meeting is to be held to decide the fate of our people, and your presence is detrimental. Do not expect pleasantries, but I swear by the Three, you will not be harmed. You, alongside Grand King Wulfgar Grandaxe and his lordly council, will take part in these discussions. They are to remain civil and it is expected that you bring whatever minute shred of logic you keep within the depths of your twisted mind. Arnorian is welcomed to accompany you as well, though, as an Elendil, not an ‘Earendil’.

May the Three lift the fog from your mind and grant you sense,

Cirimas II Elendil

Sounds of commotion echo from within the ruins of Dal Cais as the Adunians begin erecting a great hall for the gathering.  In only a mere few days, In the space known formerly as the ‘Faith Assembly’ now stands a mighty hall hewn of sturdy oak and pine. Upon arrival, one would see the land is guarded by Adunian spearmen.  The guardsmen would demand the invitations from those entering the land before allowing them passage to the hall.

Elandric stood inside the great hall, leaning against his shorter version of a halberd. He asked some low-born clanslad to go get him some ale, that the boy did - quickly. Elandric smirked and nodded at the lad's leaving. He took a swig of his newly acquired ale. All the noise made him feel at home, all the men talking and chatting, all the women with their gossip, it just felt alive. "Sae Dranan.. Think tha' lord o' Adunadinadane will be takin' part o' this gatherin', or cower loike tha' hen?" The boy snorted with a smile plastered to his lips "Moight be hard wiff only three men tae guide him!" He began laughing quietly, he then snapped out of it and held his axe-length halberd to his side, awaiting his Lord's word.

((Fixed.  Thank yeh.))

Dranan would look over to Elandric, remaining his serious expression.  He would stare towards the ale for a brief moment before giving a light sigh, gazing around to the people around him.  “If he is wise he will come.  No point on standing behind a settlement that can not be defended.”  Now looking towards his silver chalice in hand, filled with wine he drops it over the side of his chair.   “I wouldn’t get drunk, Elan.  Who knows what will happen here..”  Raising his hand, he gestures a servant forth to clean the mess.

Elan shrugged, looking a bit disappointed at the spilled wine. "Why.." He thought to himself. "This ale is nothin', think it be weak" Elandric says before quickly chugging it down. He wiped his lips with his free hand, his expression mirrored Dranan's after a few seconds of thinking. "Nae matter wha'll happen, m'lord.. Tha' Anadunes are outnumbered, an' most loikely dry on blade n' armour.. No matter, s'pose we shouldn't be tae sure.."

"The Hightower's 'will' is strong enough, Armas. His stupidity overshadows him, clearly displayed in his actions." Cirimas pauses, glancing up from the parchment strewn about the table in front of him. He meets the two with a pensive stare, arching his head back in dissatisfaction. "Let us hope Arnorian acts as a voice of reason." A boisterous guffaw escapes his gullet as he turns back to his writings.

Kayrin holds the letter in his hand, placing it on the stand before him. Those Adunians who call themselves the People of Anadune stand around him, and he looks at each one in silence. His face betrays him: pained and resigned. "So it begins," he says quietly, "You chose, the most of you, to ignore his petition, and I agreed with your choice. You made the decision as he, nor any of the Adunians who left us, had no right to decide who ruled Anadune. It is not, after all, Adunia - not the Adunia that once was. That Adunia was known for rebellion and strife. You all chose to follow me, and follow me you have. I am glad for that. I want no bloodshed, we are people of peace. I have promised you all that I will do everything I can to promote and protect that peace. Arnorian has done the same. I do not know Dranan's intent with our land, or why he cannot be content with land with his Orenians, but I know this. You fought for this land just as much as I, and it is your toil that has brought us to this point. If you continue to stand with me, I ask you to join me here."

His gaze moves to Arial, "I understand you chose neutrality, but that is even more a reason to come forward now and attend this meeting. I want your truthful opinion. I want this meeting to prove without a shadow of a doubt whom you support as your leader. I want to see Dranan's explanation of what he can do, and what he will do for you. You know me, and you know my plans, but I intend to explain those as well. I pray to the Three that these meetings will bring no bloodshed."

With that, Kayrin straightens from leaning over the table and begins his preparations.

Arial's dress seems altered now, however professionally done. She now wears a large hood, her face lost in shadows, and her skin completely covered with either gloves or her dress. Even so, her voice is still the same calm, friendly and curious tone. She stands near Kayrin and does not meet his eyes when she is spoke to, even if he would not be able to see her eyes anyway. She sways slightly as he looks back to his papers. Arial sighs faintly, "I will attend this meeting if you so wish, Kayrin... I do, however, want Brae to stay neutral still, least there be war because of the change of leader in Adunia. Though.. if an answer is requested, an answer shall be received. At the time of the meeting, of course." She looks towards his papers for a moment. "To the Aspects and the Three I pray there is no blood shed," she adds in agreement.

Aep puts his hands on his hips and looks left to Kayrin as they read the letter. He starts to drum his fingers against whatever surface they find as he considers what he and his clan will do. "If it comes to arms, I will not fight for what meager existence we call ours, my friend, but this man stands to take our lives into his hands." Aep moves around the room and itches his beard. "I have never met this man who claims to have the throne by right, and I for one would know his measure before I accept his rule." Aep looks to the small crowd of people still loyal to Kayrin. "I know this man not, and his only service to our people thus far has been to disrupt the peace and call our King a usurper! I will not got quietly, if it makes a difference in the end, and McLeod stands by you, my King, Jon wherever he sleeps, and Raven in her grave. We do not falter. He turns to attend the menial duties he has taken to occupy his mind, all with the somber expression he has adopted surrounding these affairs.

Rokkur gently steps out of his home, reading the news, and he sighs softly. He tucks the note under his arm, gently striding out to his horse. "Of Kings and thrones...perhaps I will ride."

He rides to Brom'Krah, eager to meet again his friends

Quinlan Campbell O'Keefe grumbles and rolls his eyes.

"Yer picking t'e wrong side, ...cousin? Wha'ever. Dranan seems alroight but t'is the Adunians in Oren who are in t'e roight place. There are nae more Campbells, all missin' er dead, just you an' me now. Take t'e roight path and leave the Hightower or ye'll have nae family left to rule."
