A Letter To Archduke Winter

A messenger arrives bearing a message to the Archduke

"I, Duke Jon Othaman, would like to suspend my vassalship from Archduke Edward Winter the Second in the hope that I may be of better use to the kingdom. A Winter has not set foot in Valles in years failing to do their job as our liege lord in protection and guidance. The king has agreed to recieve Valles and all its vassals under him directly.

I wish the oath I have had to you since I was a young lad be considered null and void so I may move on towards higher prospects for the benefit of not just Herendul but for Oren. May you continue to do the Creator's work for Oren where we may live as eternal friends on this world and into the Seven Skies. May the Creator bless thee.

Sincerely,

Duke Jonathan Othaman

"You are a Duke. You can not be subject to another Duke. You were under King Heinrik all along." Silus says.

"Jon is under an Archduchy, which may hold ducal titles within itself."

((I am returning from London this evening, and I will discuss this then. Due to the agreement signed when the Kingdom of Herendul volunteered its support for a centralized Oren, the King of Oren does not have jurisdiction over vassal affairs in the Archduchy of Herendul and a vassal cannot break from a vassal-liege relationship without express or implied permission from the liege lord without commiting a high crime against the state. As such, this will be handled internally upon my return, and a mutual agreement will be reached. Until that point, the Duchy of Valles remains legal vassal to the Archduchy of Herendul.))

The Archduke begins writing letters.

((From John of Darfey who lost his most Holy password))

"A vassal cannot simply have his titles removed. The Archduke has to willingly give them up, that, or the King may declare war to forcefully wrest them from the Archduke's hands"

says John of Darfey

Then this is a rebellion for independence which Valles have already won as Hansetia can field no men.

Baron Harrison Briarwood sits with his castle steward, Ozmir, as well as his Patriots. They laugh and drink, before he suddenly says, seemingly without provocation, "Archduke Edward has no levies and no loyal vassals, and the entirety of Oren's nobles agree unanimously to removing him from his position! At this point, the king wouldn't even need the crown authority to do so, if he didn't have it in the first place!"
