Hello to my fellow LOTCers, I hope you're all having a good day.

I'm sure that many of you have heard about this situation with Knox and raids, and I decided that to make things as clear as possible, I will make a post regarding my view on this whole situation. Hopefully it will help everyone understand a few things.

Time and time again I have heard people say, "I won't post a br, staff won't care" or, "Staff don't do anything to punish people" etc, etc. So here I am to start doing something.

When I claimed that ban report I knew that I had banned Knox before for breaking server rules. There was no doubt in my mind that he would do it again. Then watching how he barely tried to defend himself, expecting the ban report to be ignored, I decided that I would ban him for a week, just to teach a lesson.

However, then I received a message saying that someone had more information, so I reopened the report. Then another person sent me proof, and another. In total i ended up with five people and multiple occasions of various rulebreaking. Not just raid, but meta, powergaming, returning to death point, no-rp and excessive harassment and trolling. So I made the decision to extend the ban to a month, because that was far too many cases, besides the fact that a few gms have handed him warns.

The fact of the matter is I'm not going to cuddle players because of a silly fear of people on the server hating me. If the staff does that LOTC will only get worse. The rules are there for a reason and as a member of the staff it is my obligation to stick to those rules. Staff have a unique responsibility to protect the roleplay of the players. It's not just staff however, players have the responsibility to recognize the purpose of those rules and to treat other players and what they enjoy with respect that any other person deserves. It is the staff whoever who have the obligation to punish those who break those rules. Ignorance is not an excuse, and we as staff cannot be lenient if we are not strict more often.

This is why, beginning with Knox, i will be far stricter when it comes to rule breaking. I will not ban any others save him for past rulebreaking, and I know plenty of people will say that that is not fair, but the staff has been far more than fair with him so far.

I am not biased against Oren. I have some good friends there. From this time on you may send me screenshots dated after this post and I will deal out one warning to each person. After that i will begin issuing bans. So i suggest all of you go back and read the rules, just to be safe.

I'll also say that it's best to talk about these sorts of things. If you had a question for Chikaea, or indeed, any member of the staff, put something forward to us. Don't act all silly on the forums or ingame! We're here for a reason, y'know ;). When every side is calm and the issue is clear, the whole situation ends up for the better. We are not teddy bears, but we aren't iron cudgels either. Happy RPing, folks!

The reason why Knox was so uncaring about the ban report because it was clearly fraudulent from the start; he was being banned for being online at the same time as empirerebel doing a diplomatic meeting (which sparked to conflict) with the Orcs. He wasn't even with said raiders at the time and the ban report as a whole was flawed from the beginning. If it had provided a serious argument than perhaps I can see why you'd like to punish him for his nonchalant attitude but given any other player it would have been a joke.

 

And I thought it was made clear that evidence had to be made public in order for the sentence to be brought out (or at least shown to the one being accused of ban). A bunch of little snippets from people trying to commit ban warfare sent over skype should, at the least, be presented for Knox and Oren to defend.

 

You made it quite clear in your skype logs that you hold some sentiment against the current Oren leaders and are actively seeking to have them banned over reformed and the fact that you've singled out Knox for your supposed raise in bans only stirs the pot in controversy. Even the original OP of the ban report admits the whole process has been blown out of proportion and trying to defend a nonsensical ban is only going to fracture this conflict further and further and divide the community. You can pretend that being the bad cop is best for the server in this situation, but it really isn't as it only continues to fan flames in the wrong direction and continue this impression of corruption and biasness among staff rank when multiple leaders are caught committing the same offense but one is singled out based on your distaste with him.

There's no rule or even issue with a nonchalant attitude on a ban report. If someone posted a ban report on me for pugsying when I don't even have access to the minecraft server, me replying with a nonchalant attitude shouldn't be grounds for punishment. Likewise, Knox not even being present in a raid which incriminates said raid would result in a less than serious attitude.

 

And as I said, these "other minor snippets" of evidence should at the least be presented to Knox so he can defend his claims. Things like metagaming and powergaming are incredibly arbitrary and should at least be allowed to be defended.

Your concern primarily regarded my first verdict, and not the second one. And quite frankly, i admit i don't like what Oren has become. But judging by the people agreeing with me, I'm thinking my decision was the right one.

Edit: it is GM misconduct to be strict on rulebreaking? Interesting.

 

If you have personal bias to a case, A.K.A. not liking a group, why would you specifically take a case on them? Do you not think that could lead to a rushed and biased decision? 

 

On another note why would you only take into consideration those telling you you did a good job. Anyone can be a suck up and tell you that you do everything right, and while it is nice to appreciate those things the real focus should be on negative feedback. If even one person doesn't agree then you shouldn't remain blind and idle to the disagreement.

Just because you have 26 +1's by friends and people who dislike Knox doesn't make your decision right. Please don't assume that there is a server-wide consensus when a vast majority of players don't like the idea of GMs intervening in their wars to target specific players whom they dislike. If you need proof of that, look at the +1's on Emenzi's Report of Corruption on yourself. 

 

I'll reiterate that not only is your clear bias evident and it would have been far better for Gms who actually oversaw multiple aspects of the war to deal with this verdict, but also to actually display, at the minimum privately to Knox, these 5-6 players messaging you about every rule Knox has broken as its a bit unfair for him to be banned over hearsay without his ability to defend himself.

This makes me furious. This sheer ignorance and openly admitting bias and hatred towards a part of the community. You chilaea DO NOT deserve to be GM. You are a disgrace with this kind of attitude.
