4.0 Update #3

Recommended Posts

Players that choose to role-play complex characters that are difficult to act out using Minecraft mechanics and plug-ins need to accept what they're getting into by doing so. The rules of the server and choices made need to benefit the majority of players, and the majority of players are working men that wield swords and click to kill. This is what is fun for the majority of the playerbase. Enjoy those few moments where you get a solid role-play battle from a cooperative player, but realize that by role-playing a Dread Knight, Golem or Mage, that you are a minority player with little support from the plug-ins or the rules and you simply have to find a niche and deal with it until the plug-ins are made or the majority of the community comes around to your way of thinking. I feel like in the last year there have been too many rare, magical characters trying to build there own personal legacy rather than simply getting in where they fit in and having fun with the rest of the playerbase. No offense to the rarities out there, I just see this struggle going on when it needs to be accepted for what it is. It was the same with the Undead, you throw that black cloak on and walk into town hissing and you accept the consequences of your character choice.

Precisely.

Not really. It just benefits people who can't be arsed to actually roleplay, and instead prefer to make people who try to provide roleplay lose all incentive to play their character. It takes effort to become a mage, or a DK, or a Golem. It takes no effort to get an iron block, put it in your inv, make a sword, and start clicking.

Disincentivise the horrible roleplay you say that the 'majority' play, because it's doing nothing but people RPing as russians and screaming about autism, as is the clique which encourages it.

Playing a game such as this shouldn't require effort or a select amount of online time, it should be fun. Quality will come with that.

Show me an example of the beautiful quality the type of RP you are discussing gives. I can give you a few examples of soviet propaganda, that is about it, in terms of the 'Quality' which has permeated the server ever since the viewpoints described above have become wide-spread, only annoyance has followed. This is most likely the worst series of changes to happen to the server since RP default came about.

What do you think the App is for to get onto the server. It used to be a way for the staff to stop people that just wanted to pvp all day from getting onto the server. I remember the days where I took 6-7 hours out of my day, putting some real time and effort into my Va's. I loved that,  and I am very thankful for that. Because now I have a very well rounded, nicely thought out character with goals of her own, along with objectives and a family. I have only been playing on this server for about 11 months now but I put time and effort into my first character that she is still alive and kicking.

I do not believe that this game is a game that you need to put hours and hours into. but it is not a game that you can wipe a character together in 20 minutes just to attack someone with.

Just yesterday I was able to get someone to rpply attack me so that they would be forced to rply fight it out with me, and when I pulled out my daggers they called pvp default and when they found out that they needed to role play fight me because of server rules. They mcly ran the other way.

I love this server and all the great wonderful times I have had on it. I really hope to get to see more rp combat in 4.0 and I hope the pvper's try their hands at some rp combat. Make some time and Enjoy role play.

So instead of warclaims you have to raid the opposing party until they rage quit then you can take their land?

Seems like a massive step backward.

I'm not going to act like raiding isn't going to be allowed because frankly, that's too much to try and mediate - as-long as there is a proper IC consequence for victimizing a group or slaying players repeatedly then it shouldn't be a huge issue.

Trying to limit raids through rules just seems impractical to me and either way, the options listed  would most likely be much easier to stomach than getting your entire settlement ripped out from under you.

I am beginning to fear that the 4.0 map will be too small. Is there anything to comfort me, shiftnative?

I personally think less raid restrictions is a good way to balance consent-based wars.

I'm looking forward to this.

Will there be, as implied, loosened or removed raid rules to balance the consensual warfare?

It can't be too small. If it takes ten minutes to get from the temple to the Human place, that's a bit longer than Aegis. And 2 towns were built on that road and we were fine. Fringe might be too small but that's like a minute from spawn to Humans and another minute at most to Dwarfs.

The map itself is not small at all, it is merely the gap between nations that is smaller than previous maps, which is a good thing. The actual map is thousands of blocks long taking into account the mc generated stuff

BTW Shift, more snow! I'm gonna keep nagging about it boi.

You need to limit the constant raiding so victims don't ragequit the server after being harassed 24/7 by trolls. Some raiders are actually good people OOC, but some people will raid just to piss them off.

At the very least, allow nation leaders or at least region owners the option to unflag PVP in their regions, so anyone who comes around for the taste of elf tears will have a harder time getting it. Those who want to provide fun and be creative will not be affected by it.

The constant overraiding is what caused the high elves to ragequit and leave the server.
