Sky 0 Share Posted May 4, 2014 A Your View on The Media Team. Due to past threads being derailed into feedback on The Media Team as a whole, instead of the OP of the threads, I have decided to make this Your View thread. Not sure what else to put in the OP other than, please be mindful that the things you may bring up are connected to people and that you should choose your words carefully, as to not come off as abusive. So, comment away.
Kemp 71 Share Posted May 4, 2014 Is it your job to make people cringe? Bollocks to news - no one ever wanted it. Try making an entertaining video that isn't greasy nerds desperately trying to not sound awkward Edit: Huh.
IrishPerson 693 Share Posted May 4, 2014 Make videos for newer players. Use Shiftnative on Reddit to your advantage before 4.0 comes out and use Reddit more actively. Get more members who produce high quality work. Cut it out with the news, it's getting old and frankly does nothing to help the server aside from bringing IC into an OOC news show that makes us all look like complete twats to most new players who may be looking on youtube for a minecraft roleplaying server.
Draeris 3124 Share Posted May 4, 2014 Do larger projects.. I have seen nearly no progress or initiative from the advertisement team, and the Media team creates things with lacking voice actors. Why not make an epic GoT-themed trialer, a novella storytelling movie or so. I see only minor things done by minor groups or individuals, we need to work as two large team together guys! Emp 209 Share Posted May 4, 2014 I feel for the MT. I sense you guys are being pressured at every step, in every direction. I'm thinking you would be better off not scrambling to appease the community - don't put out material every week if it's for the sake of sticking to a schedule. Evaluate what is needed, and what you actually want to do. If you want solid suggestions of alternative projects, I'll direct you to my proposal: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/109475-idea-media-team-documentary-series/#entry1029900
argonian 14254 Share Posted May 4, 2014 Stop the news stuff. It's just plain horrible. And stop only showing builds in trailers, show battles like the ones at Scourge island. Builds are on every server, huge battles 50v50 are a bit less common and more exciting.
Raptorious 1899 Share Posted May 4, 2014 As has been said quite a few times before (by many people, mind you, not just a couple), the quest the Media Team to deliver "news" to LotC is an un-needed one. They're not particularly interesting, they don't serve any purpose (other than delivering information that we can already access on the forums or through friends) via voice instead and honestly hardly anyone watches it. We don't need news, we need an efficient way to attract new players and generate a positive image to players that AREN'T on LotC yet. You're not fooling us, we already know what it is. Make interesting trailers, funny or exciting videos (like action cinematics or comedic videos like Zilldude's) to show the rest of the RP or Minecraft community that we're a good ******* server to play on and not a bunch of boring scrublords. The Media Team needs to divert it's goal to what the server actually needs as opposed to what it thinks could possibly be nice for it to maybe have. That kind of stuff should be a secondary objective. And even if the advertisements aren't on a regular basis, at least they'd be out there giving us a good image. Edit Like Supersodapops said, back in the day the Aegis animated trailer with undead, the old classic one was extremely popular and what brought most of the players in at the time, including myself. That's what you need to make, exciting videos like that.
LaCabra (Soda) 1519 Share Posted May 4, 2014 The trailer with animations that showcased all of the races - even Undead - was what brought hundreds of players in. You've got a larger team now, you can make an even better/more complex animation... But I think that's the way to go. To be frank, it's a waste of time making weekly news videos, they're barely watched and can be appeased with a simple forum post if anything. MAKE ANIMATIONS.
Overland 349 Share Posted May 4, 2014 Firstly, thank you for making this. I hope can be constructive enough to help... But anyway, I'll list the things which I believe could use some benefit. I also hope I don't offend anyone :/ Media Morning Herald I don't mind this at, good on Jade and whoever else is involved with it. But my only concern with it is that it feels a bit too centred on the Media Team. I'd rather it be like Danny's old monthly newsletters instead. It doesn't matter how often it is, but I believe it would be a bit better than what we currently have,no offence intended to anyone. LoTC With Me I was going to speak about the current LoTC News, but I've already posted there . Now, LoTC with me is nice and all, but is it really needed? The same could be said about other projects. My concern is that could the time be spent doing other things like trailers? I believe that it would be more feasible for things that attract new players. Trailers If possible and the MT gets permission I believe it would be best if a teaser trailer was to show an idea of 4.0. Not major, but enough to lure in players about what our world is like and why they should go our server instead of another one; this could function as a way to keep our current players as well. All in all, I believe it is best that we maintain ways to keep our players and get new ones as well. This normally comes in the form of trailers. So this may sound hard, but I believe it is better that we get new players, who may bring more life to server, than try to appeal to everyone. If you're capable of making a few videos a week, than I'm sure a trailer that takes a few weeks to make wouldn't be hard.
Moot 1719 Share Posted May 4, 2014 Trailers, News **** and the like doesn't keep the players in. The server keeps the players in. Learn to bring in more players, our players ain't going anywhere fast.Videos which make people cringe won't keep players in, it'll make them question why they're here.
calculusdesola 1658 Share Posted May 4, 2014 Agreed with both Dalek and Raptor. As an outlet, news does nothing but perpetuate information that travels fast regardless, and often at the expense of our entertainment with the media team's videos. Try making some dark, gritty minecraft cinematics about some roleplay post in, say, the Orenian Empire's subsection, or that of the church instead of repeating useless information that we probably already know, and as Dalek said, in ways that make me want to open my wrists from cringe. One personal thing I've noticed with the media team's videos is that the videos generally attempt to pander to the entire minecraft audience with a mild fantasy RP overtone, rather than the legitimate roleplayer audience like you or I. The former in the equation consists primarily of half-literate 11 year olds who come on with the retro hoodie, bangs-over-eyes skins and contribute to the downfall of RP - autists, they are called; that group in question being the REAL autists, rather than "people i dont like" as the term has become. Anyway, the latter, such as Esterlen or Gaius Marius for instance, RP characters that make the world a whole lot more interesting - crude, immoral, unrelenting and constantly changing - rather than your stereotypical 18 year old adventurous human whose parents were killed by white roses in a concentration camp and is out to save the world from the baddies. That's old and repetitive and boring, and reigning those people in just waters down the roleplay even more for everyone, not just one area. The only cinematics from the media team I've really seen consist of stuff like the aforementioned adventurer, or a peaceful, unharried walk through the human capital where everything is apparently fine and dandy. Where's the interesting stuff? Where's the starving peasants and beggars and executions? Where's the zealous priests giving sermons to a roaring crowd? Hell, where's the romanticized battles? Where's the bards and songs? Never seen it once from the media team, but I'd sure as hell love to. Step your game up. In short, stop making news because it's pointless, stop working on "peaceful and quaint"-type projects, target a more authentic, mature audience and start making gritty, realistic cinematics to reign those more mature players in.
Moot 1719 Share Posted May 4, 2014 I agree. After all, would you read a book without conflict? No, because it's boring. Add some visible conflict, it may perk new players interests.

calculusdesola 1658 Share Posted May 4, 2014 I agree. After all, would you read a book without conflict? No, because it's boring. Add some visible conflict, it may perk new players interests. I would like to add that this notion that we who think the media team is putting out extremely cringeworthy content are a "vocal minority" is ridiculous. Just about everybody I've come into contact with, even some other staff members, have voiced something critical about the cringe, which you'll find described in my previous post. The entire community is screaming it out, but because of conflicting likes and dislikes and perhaps some stubbornness in the media department's leadership, it falls on deaf ears. "They're just random plebs," they say, smirking comfortably, reclining in their chairs. "Plebs whose opinions mean nothing!" Really?
