“A man who won’t die for something is not fit to live.”
-MLK

War has consumed men recently. The Flays, once allies with the beloved raevir, has had its loyalty tested, and failed. They have betrayed the empire and attacked it, so desperate to kill the imperials, they have sided with dwarves and Tuetonic Order.
In the mists of the sudden conflict lies an old, loyal man, who has too had his loyalty tested today.

Damen Nikkelson, a man at the age of 80 stands strong and healthy despite his old stature. He makes his way to Kaldonia for a light walk, to be only alerted with violence.
Seeing swords and hearing armor clanking, he suits up immediately, searching for a fellow friend to join in the sudden battle. Unaware as he makes through the hordes of men in the streets of Kaldonia, he fines an old face. Sascha, grabs him immediately and drags him into battle. Damen barely keeps up, throwing his sword over his head. As he makes way through the dense violence, he sees familiar faces. Flay friends are spotted, so Damen immediately joins in, unaware of his enemy.

But as he moves forward, Damen spots tuetons and dwarves following the flays into battle. Dwarves and tuetons, on our side? Who has thought a day has come! Despite the strange alliance, he moves forward with them.
“Sascha, if our old enemies fight with us, who are we fighting?” Damen asks, and Sascha looks to his friend, frowning without a response.

After the fighting continues, it’s clear now that imperials are the enemies. They’ve held the crown far too long, and must be struck down. After raiding and taking over the Palace with Imperial blood written upon his sword, Damen another familiar face.
Yuri the dog handler’s wounded body, gasping for air upon the pavement in front of the palace, with his loyal dogs being slaughtered by the attackers. Damen knew this was his first sign that something is up, something wrong. Yuri didn’t die fighting against imperials, he has died fighting for them.
As Damen shakes off the thought, he treads through the streets on the way to Vekaro with a group consisting of Mirtok, Drelik, and various flays/tuetons following behind. “Were we going back to Vekaro for celebration?” Damen thought, thinking this was too quick of a victory.

On the path there, the group was stopped by a man in armor. It was no ordinary armor, it consisted of powerful enchantments. It emitted a glow, along with his sword as he stood. The group laughed at the brave man, then proceeded to quickly attack. The man did not go down quick despite fighting against a large group. As the long fight continued, flays and tuetons fell to the floor by the courageous man’s sharp, glowing, blade. The man even took down Mirtok and Drelik himself, before falling to his knees by one of the group members. Damen had no time to think, he instantly went to go tend to Mirtok’s wound, reviving him before helping Drelik and others who have fell. Upon taking the magical armor from the lone man, it was noticed that the man was in fact Ivo, a comrade that Damen has helped many times. Enraged, Damen shouted “Kill him, kill the traitor! Kill the man who dares fight the ones who defeat imperials!”. Ivo pleaded for mercy, pleaded to be saved before falling by the blade of one of the men. Damen calmed down, his eyes saddening as he breathed heavily, realizing what he done was a terrible mistake.

As they made back to Vekaro, they were found in another fight. Men defended Vekaro as the infiltration seeped in, Damen killing as many imperials as he can. Upon chasing a particular man, Damen turned him around and stabbed his rusting sword through his gut, looking to his eyes as his foe fell. Damen quickly realized, that this was no imperial, it was Devland, a fellow friend who’s helped Damen in rough roads. Damen suddenly cried, holding his old friend as he fell down, looking into his eyes of Devland, only reading the words:
“Why?”

As arrows fly throughout Vekaro, all sound was muted out of Damen as he stands up, looking around through the violence. He pushed away every thought from his head, as an epiphany strikes him. Damen slowly walked away, his old legs weak as he makes through the war, and walks for days as he thinks to himself.
Damen exiled himself, ashamed for his behavior. Ashamed of fighting for a side who would kill his friends. Ashamed of killing all those friends of his. Ashamed of helping Mirtok in his strive to kill imperials and ashamed for helping Mirtok when he was down.
Damen was a man noted for his loyalty to the Raevirs, he was a man who did not commonly betray. He fought for the Carrions, but not that day.

A couple of days have passed from the recent attack, as Damen thinks about his actions. Damen knows he can never be forgiven for what he’s done. He knew that there might be something see to his repention, he knew exactly what.
As the war goes by, Damen makes his way. Visiting strangers upon strangers asking the same question as he moves forward.
“Where is Mirtok of the tuetonic order?”

Damen finally hears of a recent outbreak, tuetons and flay allies fighting against the High elves.
Oh, the high elves… Once an ally of them as well, now turned on with little defense by the flays and friends. Damen makes his way through the warcamp outside the city, asking request of Mirtok’s audience. Damen does not know why he’s received Mirtok’s attention, but he does not question it. Mirtok smiles seeing Damen, knowing this was the man who had saved him from Ivo. The old man stands shakily with a hunch, frowning as he slowly speaks.

“For many years, we’ve been in conflict. For many years the tuetonic order has marked itself an enemy to the raeviric name. I stand before you as Damen. A couple of days ago, I have fought alongside your army, your order, thinking I was fighting to rid of the imperial enemies, I have done the opposite. I’ve helped kill Yuri the dog-handler, Ivo the loyal, and Devland the strong. These men were once my friends, but no longer are because of you. It is not all your fault, it is also mine. But they are the true loyal ones. Not I. I claim myself no longer fighting alongside your kind even if it means to rid of the Imperial scum. I refuse to fight with people who killed friends defending their traditions and culture. I refuse to fight with a man Siegmund himself would die to just have your name killed.”
As Damen finishes his speech, the warcamp filled with tuetonic order members unsheathe their blade, knowing what is to come. Damen does the same. Mirtok chuckles at the bold man before him, proudly saying “Are you mad, old fool? Are you not afraid of death?”
Damen frowns, whispering as he holds his fragile blade up “I do not fear death, I fear of dying for a wrong purpose.”
As he fends off the soldiers, he only aims for the real target. Hochmeister Mirtok.
The old man manages to penetrate Mirtok’s flesh eventually, grinning as his cracked lips look down to the leader’s bloodied body. Damen makes no attempt of escaping, facing his soon death by the surrounding soldiers as he looks to the sky, releasing his sword. Damen looks up before saluting the sky, saluting the fallen brothers and people he’s once served such as his old liege Siegmund, knowing that he is proud of what Damen has done that day.
“Do what you must, I have already won this war.” Damen cracks out before dying, knowing his old friends with Godanistan smiles down on him, opening the gates for the old man to join them.

(( Excellent read Eddy, truly. Had no idea you invested so much into your character. You should probably show that more often.

Yuri grunts, sitting down in a corner, his dogs licking his wounds.  Images of the battle race through Yuri's mind.  Surrounded by enemies, his allies being executed all around him.  The brutal images of war stain his mind.
