Lol

Stop being an elitist and learn that we're not all perfect serious Rpers like your own obviously perfect self. RP is fun when its chill and laid back, PvP is fun because its chill and fun. Neither is perfect, hardcore mega serious RP (and RPers) is a festering boil on lotc

Don't you mean appearing elitist?

There's nothing wrong with PvP or 'hardcore mega serious rp'. With PvP, some players want to be done with conflict quickly and be done with it. Before I blabble on about 'hardcore mega serious rp', may I have your definition of it first, please?

Tougher moderation of the RP forum could work, but only if we straighten things out.

Let's not waste our time trying to work out what "trolling" is. It's a bullshit buzzword with a fluctuating definition who's severity bobs up and down like the tides. Trying to ban or moderate "trolling" is both subjective and pointless. You can't tell someone not to do something when the definition of it varies wildly from person to person. Use the wider definition and LotC has at most four trolls. Use the very loose one that LotC's fond of and LotC is 60% trolls. While I commend the efforts of a few GMs to crack down, you're wasting your time fixating on what's essentially a single word. Don't bother.

Instead, lay down the rules unambiguously (or at least less ambiguously). For example:

  • Out of character posts on the RP forum are forbidden unless the main post is itself OOC. Any issues with RP posts can be handled via PM. Any OOC posts will be removed by FMs.
  • Posting as unnamed characters (ie: random peasant) is forbidden. Any such posts will be removed and if the content is considered inflammatory or an OOC jab then the poster may receive a forum warn at the handling GM or FM's discretion.
  • The RP forum follows the same rules as the rest of the forum. Posts that do not contribute to the RP in a roleplay thread and are considered clearly only intended to inflame or mock OOC by multiple GMs will be removed.

Not claiming those are solid, flawless rules, they're just for example purposes.

That's how you should approach it. Clear rules, not trying the impossible task of sticking a solid definition on a vacuous word.

It sickens me now-a-days how everyone blames pvp as the problem. All it does is tear a rift in the community even more. People now-a-days don't wanna be stuck at their computer screen for hours to finish one fight. But forum mods could step it up and give out some warns. I mean ever since I hit my 9th warn I've tried to stay remotely out of trolling on the forums.

Tell you what, I'll stop being elitist when this stops being a god damned rp server. We came here to RP. We're the reason this server exists in the first place, and why there are so many people in it; because we actually create fun, interesting environments for other players to interact with. If you don't like that, you can just get out now, because LOTC clearly is not the server for you.

Now, Sneaky,

Am I talking about pvp default? No I'm not, surprisingly. I'm just talking about RPers who aren't willing to actually make good rp.

Alright Hex, I will tell you something, I don't try to offend but this is the truth. You is what makes me want to **** off from this server. All this serious rp, one, its not healthy for someone to take rp as seriously as you and some of your friends do. LoTC is an absolute stimulant that gives people the abillity to disconnect from their own lives and live a life that they chose on a minecraft server. Secondly, as a new player, all these elitests just stressed me out to an extent where I just stopped enjoying rp lol. I have /many/ issues with the server (and of course rp elitists is one of them) but I play on LoTC because of my own personal reasons as well as enjoying its unique features and sticking with my LoTC friends.

You can remain in your serious rp group just keep in mind that you pass off an /extremely/ agressive behavior in terms of when you rp (as in scolding new players for accidental power gaming and meta gaming) and just stressing your self out. Strict rp defeats the purpose of the server, which is to relax and have fun. Constantly following lore and trying hard to rp really takes the fun out of this. Just my 2 cents on this.

RP elitists, you just sound like complete dipshits in my opinion lol. This server is for people to have fun and "roleplay" on, doesn't mean they have to be serious every second of the day, that would just get rid of the concept of fun.

Go back to your little cybering chats in skype and reevaluate your lives.

My issue is. You have a serious rp going on, everyone is serious and trying to do something. Some guy randomly shows up and tries to make the whole thing a joke.

Okay, annoying.

I dont care if we are goofing and having a blast with unserious rp. but when others are, try to be curtious and not bother them.

^^

Thats fine, thats agreeable. But I want you to just know that serious rp is really just unnecessary at times. It takes much more energy from a person, makes them spend more time on the server instead of important thing they (might) have to do. Now, Jade, I hate to point out individuals, but since you commented I feel it is necessary to bring an example to my issue. I joined june of 2013, was finals weeks of exams for a young freshman in high school, and I joined a week after the battle of the dread fort. My first destination was Kingston, and I pawned that clinic you and emeriick had.

Anyway, I was a noob and I didn't know wtf I was doing lol. All I could remember was a bundle of emotes and you /yelling/ at me in the ooc chat. Yep, serious rp at its finest. I knew from that moment how stressful and unnecessary serious rp could be. I want to avoid these people who bust their ***** hump over rp when this is a game. People try so hard to maintain serious rp when they live a person who they aren't /actually/ are, I want to avoid this. We should not be the server where we implore people to live lives that they should feel comftorbale about their character, but about themselves.

Screaming at noobs for not following lore and by accident meta gaming or power gaming is what rp elitists became, if this is what you want to do by making rp better, then do me a favor and gtfo from here because your stressing me and the rest of the server out.

Alright, two things.

One, I don't have a "group." I'm not cliquey, and I actively disinvolve myself from most if not all political rp. I'm free to rp with whoever I want whenever I want, and I do so regularly.

And two, who the hell are you to say I'm not nice to newbies? If I could hand out a month long ban for each and every time you or one of your chums bullied a new dark elf player both ICly and OOCly for simply existing some of your little group would be gone for upwards of a full year. I go out of my way to help newbies get better, you just push them around until they never want to see you again.

My problem is how hostile we are to small groups.

Large groups gang up on smaller ones and taunt the **** out of them and hell man, we are all here to rp. But there are some here only to PvP

Ok, I do appologize for mentioning you specifically its just the people I saw you mainly integrating with (Delvers and other elves from old malinor and such) people who do these faults to people. We are not here to stress newbies out by making them be as strict as a prep school teach in rp, that is just unnecessary. I want us to maintain some sort of form of casual rp, and I kill darkies people for what my character believes is wrong. I am not going into detail as to why my char kills darkies, and I try to refrain from harassing with a few exceptions.

Y'know serious RP can be fun as well, if you know how to do it right. And serious RP isn't just the stigma for "cybering" or being "boring" either. The fact that you're coming out here calling people elitist RP -Insert expletives- and being generally hostile towards people who really have every right to want what they want on a server that on the title advertises RP could be considered hypocritical and Elitist in itself...

Serious RP isn't to do with Cybering, lets get that out in the open. It is completely unfair to paint people in such a horrible way for something that literally less than 5% of the sever even partakes in.

From what I am seeing, most people who you are labeling as "elitist RPers -Insert expletives-"  are simply asking for RP that doesn't result in a joke or stupidity in the end. It's nice to have a joke every once in a while but after a point it stops being funny and starts being what the movie industry would call...

JAR JAR SYNDROME

(Burn it with fire)

I mean, lets take an example, Game of Thrones, the drama, atmosphere and tension is built up through /serious acting/ that captures the audience's attention to otherwise scare, captivate or startle them. Jar Jar Syndrome is where whilst you're trying to do this, you're throwing a comedic twist in, not once or twice, but constantly. You're constantly throwing it in, making it impossible for the audience to become captivated, to feel immersed, to feel that tension. Resulting in the a Phantom Menace's worth of ****.

The way I see it, people are asking for more serious RP. Again, serious RP isn't boring, and it isn't to do with cybering. Some of the greatest thrillers and horrors of our time are anything but and attest to this.

RP is like story writing, only you're acting the story as it is written. For every comedic part of the story there should be twice as much if not thrice as much atmospheric building, tension building serious RP.

Would Lord of the Rings be as great of a book or Movie if they stuck with the animated Sam, the bumbling idiot and otherwise Jar Jar of the 1970's for Peter Jackson's release, stuffing up the difficult struggles of Frodo and the ring with constant silliness and stupid jokes that aren't really that funny.

(It was a different time back then...)

Again, everything in moderation, comedy works /sometimes/. Not all the time.

You need to respect other for trying to take a break off and not busting their hump over rp dude. Strict rp takes out the fun of the server, its not nice to be scolded for not being serious enough in rp, no one wants to receive that sort of criticism because an mc server. I remember I would go ooc trying to joke around with you for example and you responded in very agressive way. Its not alright to implore the players to mostly devote themselves to very stressful and strict rp.

I have not responded aggressively here. It is anything but "TNT". Trust me, if I was being aggressive you would know it. You're saying that people need to respect others for wanting to take a break from serious RP. That is completely fine as well. But this is a two way street. something people don't seem to get. That understanding and respect goes both ways. You need to understand and step away when people are quite clearly trying to do some serious RP. You may not be in the mood for it but that doesn't mean you can just force everyone to do it how you want it. If they want to do some serious RP, let them. Tagging them as "Cyberers" and "boring people" will not help the situation or matter. It will only serve to increase the distance between the two groups.

Respect goes both ways. Respect them and they'll respect you. Note how I have not once sworn at you or called you names.

All my post said is that everything works in moderation. Please don't make it something that it is not.
