I - Brief Summary

Skalliege is not the stereotypical dwarf clan. While many other dwarvern clans tend to drink hordes of ale and generally have a casual time, the Skallieges are very serious. While older dwarves respect their values and traditions, newer dwarves show distrust towards them as they see them as having the ruthless attitude of humans. A culture typically obsessed with honour and tradition, they are fierce friends and foes alike, a sense of indomitable justice and honour surrounding everything. The colours of Skalliege are Orange and White.

II - An In-Depth History

The Skalliege are a splinter clan, which split from the Tunnelsmashers during Asulon, under the influence of Skalliege Tunnelsmasher. A young scholar named Skarl, who was also Skalliege’s brother brought to his attention the issue of the  Tunnelsmasher’s leaderless state during the time of Bael and his son’s disappearance in Anthos. Skalliege rallied his followers and stood up to take leadership. The line of Telchor followed him, but the other main line and a few minor lines decided to remain loyal and wait for Bael’s return. Due to this, Skalliege decided it was an ultimately better idea to split from the clan and form his own. Unfortunately before the would-be Skallieges split from the clan, Skarl disappeared under mysterious circumstances. To honour his fallen comrade, Skalliege made the clan chief’s title Skarl.

Although the split clan was incredibly small and weak, they adhered to a strict and organised breeding program, as so to form their own heritage, and keep the clan more or less able to be followed. However, all within the clan, even the freshest dwarfling can claim to have the blood of Skalliege within him. Being force to remain with low numbers due to the selective breeding program, the new Skallieges blended in with the other clanless dwarves, as so not to draw more attention to themselves besides the height they were gaining each generation, and their odd choices for weapon. Their cohesive attitudes to most everything turned many eyes towards them.

Turning to testing via trials, the Skallieges discarded the system of beardlings and age, turning to their own system, where only those who completed all trials could be considered a dwarf. A beardling could theoretically be a dwarf within the Skallieges, as the relative age of a dwarf does not matter, only their ability to aid the clan. Those who do not ascend from a dwarfling are the underdogs of Skalliege society, acting as servants to the dwarves of the clan, some favoured dwarflings ranked around the same as a favoured dog, most below, worthy of scorn and contempt.

Going through Anthos, and gradually building numbers, with the arrival of the Fringe, the population boomed, giving them enough numbers to pull free from the masses of clanless dwarves, and start to plan. Now, the Skalliege have identified themselves as a clan.

Lead by the Kadrel Kronok surfacing from his forge long enough to realise that there was an outside world, the Skalliege are beginning to muster under the banners of the clan Skarl, Yarpen. With the extinguishing of the small Tazarak’Kadrel, and many tears and protests from the Kadrel Kronok, the Skalliege have rejoined dwarven society.

III - Cultural Standards and Traditions

The Skalliege are a very proud clan, this is often shown in their cultures and traditions.

Skalliege are driven by their bloodlines and heritage. A reason for this is due to their obsession with being the perfect dwarves, they believe this can only be achieved via selective breeding programs. Due to the selective breeding programs, a stronger heritage or bloodline is respected among the other dwarves. It is not a rare sight to see Skalliege come to blows over whose father’s father was more just or honorable in battle.

The Skalliege are generally far from the dwarven stereotype. In fact, it’s considered quite shameful to be drunk off your arse not in the specific ceremonies where it’s allowed. Most Skalliege use alcohol as a refresher, not something to drink themselves under the table every day with, often choosing the juice of cave fruits and herbs over a mug of ale. Instead of getting into fist fights and brawls like most other dwarves, Skalliege use studying history or skillful sparring as a pastime.

Skalliege take breeding very seriously, they even have a selective breeding program. The prime dwarf in the eyes of a Skalliege is one who has dark brown eyes and dark brown hair. Also a tall yet strong appearance (tall for a dwarf). Dwarves who do not fit in this category, or who are deemed unable to produce desired children are barred from breeding. The children of dwarves who are barred from breeding are exiled from the Skalliege, they may still continue to live in dwarven society but will always come under scrutiny from members of Skalliege.. While Skalliege see themself as a higher breed of dwarf, they respect the lineages of other clan’s and recognise that they have also achieved many things over their lineage. The Skalliege are very devout in their following of the Brathmordakin. They essentially force the religion upon other dwarves. While the Skalliege believe that all races should follow the Brathmordakin, they do not force it upon other races as they realise it usually causes nothing but trouble.

It is tradition among Skalliege to respect those of a previous generation as they have helped continue the selective breeding program and have pushed the Skalliege further in their attempt to achieve the master race.

The clan forgemaster (Kadrel Kronok) is a highly respected position. They are the most skilled smith in the clan and take on one intern in their lifetime. This intern takes over with their master’s passing. While they aren’t as skilled as the Kingdom’s forgemasters, saying they are unskilled would be a very empty insult. Most Skalliege forgemasters were trained for the majority of their life, and spend the rest of their life doing their job.

The clan scribe holds the clan’s documents such as the records and scrolls of history. The scribe is also tasked with searching the records for lost clan members, but the Skarl can also take this duty when the scribe is absent.

IV - Physical features and clothing

Members of the clan Skalliege are typically taller and leaner than most dwarves. Lighter brown hair is considered the norm for clan members, it is possible for one to be born with black or dark brown hair. Light brown eyes are considered the proper trait for a Skalliege. However, blue or green eyes are possible but like darker hair, are a rare occurrence. The brown eyes were a desired trait of the Skalliege’s master race prophesy due to a mutation (brown eyes) that Skalliege had. The left arm (shield arm) of a Skalliege is often lined with tattoos to signify their age, achievements, heritage and rank within the clan. Much like the Tunnelsmashers which they split from, they often wear heavy clothing such as coats or robes when out of battle. The coats and robes are typically kept neatly and fastened tightly with belts. Skalliege beards are shortly trimmed and well kept. They typically wear armour made of overlapping plates, allowing for more movement. Conical helms with an optional lower face guard completes the battle wear.

V - Clan Values

Heritage - All Skalliege stand by a strong sense of heritage, some would even say that it is the most important thing to them. A Skalliege who does not care for his heritage is no Skalliege at all. Skalliege are often found argueing about who’s father’s father had better achievements, despite the clan’s overall sense of solidarity.

Justice - Skalliege are devout followers of justice. Justice must always be served for any crime. You’ll often find that Skalliege make good guards due to this value.

Solidarity - Skalliege is a cohesive unit, each member solidarity to the other. This solidarity allows them to work alongside each other almost perfectly. This value came about when the Tunnelsmashers began to breed vigorously with other dwarves, completely ruining the bloodlines.

Discipline - Skalliege stand by a strong code of discipline. This discipline is sought by dwarflings at a young age so that they may show the older dwarves how far they have come in their training and how much more refined their movements and manners.

Duty - Skalliege have a duty. A duty to their kin, a duty to their nation and a duty to themselves. The duty to their kin involves defending and fighting for their clan brothers and sisters. The duty to their nation involves fighting for their nation until their last breath. The duty to themself involves ensuring the other duties are always being followed and completed. Enlisted Skalliege also have a duty to the military.

VI - Clan Trials

The Skalliege must go through several trials in order to become ascend the title of dwarfling and be accepted as both a fully fledged clan member and an adult.

The First, History - Melkan’Koros: (Large Legend, due to lack of words such as history, etc.)

The dwarfling must vocally recite the key points of the history of the Skalliege, to a collection of the elder members of the clan.

The Second, Walk of Shame - Velak Eron Ekran’Dwak: (March, no walk, however can be interchanged. Of, simple enough, then Small/Little, combined with Pride in place of shame)

The dwarflings must march through the entirety of the keep (if not residing within a keep, than the dwarfing must walk throughout the entire dwarven capital), with only loincloths worn, their beards trimmed and incomplete markings of achievement and honour are painted upon their chests, screaming inadequacy. They are insulted and looked down upon by the entirety of the clan, even the younger dwarflings. Once the march is completed, they will have the symbol finished, and will receive praise for the rest of the day, and prepared for their next trial.

The Third, Proficency - Kronok’Elron’Kazak: (Master of War, simple.) The dwarfling must prove themselves with a shield, spear, falchion and halberd, and be at a proficient level with at least one weapon or combination in order to pass.

The Fourth, Slaughter - Melkan’Kavir: (Large Death, in place of slaughter. Fairly obvious) The dwarfling must go forth, seeking an ork to do glorious battle with. In order to ever return home, the dwarfling must kill the ork, and claim its head as proof. Multiple dwarflings are allowed to band together to complete this task, a sign of the cohesive unit that is Skalliege.

The Fifth, Duty - Anart’Tira: (Honour Work) The dwarfling must enlist with the Kingdom’s military, whether it be the Legion or whatever it is at the time. The dwarfling must remain in the legion for (two irl weeks). Most Skallieges stay in the military after this trial.

VII - Clan Ceremonies

Ceremony of Dwarf-hood.

This ceremony is held upon a dwarfling competing his trials. In this ceremony, the dwarfling has the tattoo of age imprinted on his arm, a sign of his passing. A feast begins where the new dwarf is allowed to drink himself silly, a rare opportunity when in the Skalliege. Upon the ceremony concluding life goes on like nothing ever happened. The dwarf is now part of Skalliege.

Ceremony of Victory

A ceremony of victory is held when a victory is achieved with no losses for the Clan, this could be something political or militaristic. The loss rule usually only applies to militaristic victories. Upon victory, a parade is held which is followed by a large feast. This is another opportunity for clan members to drink themselves under the table.

Ceremony of Retribution

This is one of the few Skalliege ceremonies that allow non-clan members to participate. During this ceremony, a dwarf branded as a heretic is brought to the center of the clan chambers. He/she is then laid upon the table, their wrist slit. If the dwarf manages to survive ten minutes on the table, the Skalliege believe that the tainted blood has left their system and they are once again un-tainted. To conclude this ceremony, the ex-heretic swears an oath to the Brathmordakin.

Ceremony of Death

Upon the death of a clan member, a ceremony of death is held. This is like a normal dwarven funeral except it is a lot more rehearsed and impressive to look at. Enlisted Skalliege start by parading into the Tazarak’Kadrel’s room before taking up a position along the aisle that leads to the Tazarak’Kadrel. As the body is brought into the room upon a cart laden with dwarven herbs and the dwarf’s belongings (if the dwarf was of the military, they will often be wearing their armor). The militaristic dwarves lightly drum their spears against the stone floor, the rest of the dwarves humming as the body is brought down the aisle. Upon the body reaching the Tazarak’Kadrel, the Clan Skarl says a few words followed by any other dwarf who volunteers. Upon these speeches concluding, the dwarf’s body and possessions are sent into the Tazarak’Kadrel to be used in the creation of the clan’s future equipment.

VIII - Religious Views

The Skalliege follow the Brathmordakin devoutly. The Skalliege consider dwarves who practice any religion but that of the Brathmordakin as heretics. While they’ll not slay the heretic, they’ll certainly scold them and are likely to ignore them, their duties and their heritage. It does not matter to a Skalliege if the child of a heretic has embraced the Brathmordakin, their bloodline has been tainted by their heretic ancestor. Only through certain trials can a heretic, or the child of a heretic be saved.

While the Skalliege follow all of the Brathmordakin, they follow one with more faith than the others. The Skalliege follow Dungrimm as he watches over all who participate in battle and fight with honour, valour and bravery.

Genuinely curious, do you take on those who already have another clan? As in, if they leave their original clan would you accept them?

They would have to be of our blood, so the answer is unlikely. The only way would be if they were lost to Skalliege, and joined another clan when really they had skalliege blood.

Alts are fine if they are played often enough. I noticed that you're Australian also, the majority of us are. Send me a PM to organize your joining if you're interested.
