Alright, this has been fun, but I think this thread (with so many GMs actually reading it) is the perfect place for us to sit down and have a little chat. A primary part of running a business based in entertainment is to remain both likable and entertaining. I like a lot of you, as judged by your posts, whereas I hardly even know Rhia but dislike her from what I've seen so far.

 

Rhia you literally asked for constructive criticism, someone gave it to you, and you snapped at them. That's foolish. Don't be foolish.

 

In all too brutal honesty, we as a player-base don't care what you as the moderation and administration want for this entertainment business, we want to be entertained. (Areyounotentertained.gif) The thing that makes leading hard is that everyone wants different things; a lot of people love pvp and crashing settlements, whereas I think those people are scummy plebs who deserve nothing less than crucifixion.

 

I don't care what you want. I want to be happy and entertained. I came here to be happy and entertained.

 

I'm not entertained right now, I am growing slowly more bored as I hold out a dying light that things might turn around and I'll be entertained again, like a crummy patch in well... any other game... being fixed. If people aren't happy, especially if this many people aren't happy, and being this vocal about it; there is something terribly wrong with this server.

 

GMs, stop telling us to calm down or shut up about it. If you can't handle discontent among a couple of people, you are not fit to lead. Give us descriptions of what your jargon means, don't be hypocritical, and shape up. I am willing to donate money to this server once it starts doing things I like, even if your rewards are silly. If you want money, do what people want you to do. Dance, monkey, dance.

Yes, we listen to player feedback and try to make choices that everyone can live with but the truth is we have a large enough player base that not everyone sees everything eye to eye and no matter what we do someone is going to be upset about a choice we make. We know this is going to happen EVERY time we make a post about an update or change in the game. It's just apart of the job. 

 

The flash of your post is cute but if you really feel so strongly about people who PVP that you want to crucify them... I would have to say this isn't the place for you. 

 

Donations are exactly that... you giving the server something because you are enjoying your time here. If you are not entertained and have nothing to say other that you are unhappy, I can help you find the door.

The fact is though, that even if the GMs are the ones calling the shots, if everyone but the GMs on the server are screaming at you to introduce something new, simply because you're in charge doesn't mean you have the right to screw over all of the people who are the reason you are a GM. (Considering the purpose of a GM is to be helpful to the players, a GM on an empty server would be completely useless.) If you honestly want to be a leader in the community, then you should listen to others outside of the GM team. Have polls on the forums, hold a QnA to figure out what the players want, not what the staff wants. I've also been hearing quite a bit that the reason that we can't release 4.0 is because youtube tutorials and trailers aren't out. I understand the tutorials, as a forum post could be somewhat difficult to understand. HOWEVER. The fact that you need a trailer to release the next map is absolutely ridiculous. You honestly could release the map without any confusion in the current playerbase without a trailer. No offense to the Media Team, but the only people who watch the trailer are new players and the occasional bored current player. (That I know of). 

 

Also, the Fringe ****ing sucks right now. And while I know that 3.5.5 is coming out shortly, I think it needs to be said that isn't an excuse to not have ANY events on the Fringe. Start building up the hype for the next map, it's not that hard. Introduce something beneficial to the players as a motivation to move to the next map, rather than a new antagonist. Come up with some random resource that players will actually want to get, such as some rare mineral that can only be found on the island that creates stronger tools or something. Honestly, no one really wants another temp map, so you should introduce something new to motivate them. I asked some of my friends over skype and TS to see if they even cared about the new map, and generally the response was "Why can't release 4.0, I don't care about the new plugins at all". This is not to say that players don't care about the new plugins, however they don't think they are a very good motivating factor to push them to move from the Fringe to the next map.

 

That's my two cents worth on this whole matter, sorry for having such a long winded rant. I felt it needed to be said.

I can gladly explain it. It's akin to you knowing who just let out a nasty smelling fart in an elevator, and calling them out on it. I called it a rant because it was a heated, one sided and very long monologue on one subject.

Just curious, perhaps your analogy is bad, but what do you gain for 'calling them out'. Doesn't make this 'gas' dissipate any faster unfortunately. Trust me, I've been there done that.

We have "your view" and players can create feedback threads.... All of the tools are in place... they just need to be used. I never meant that GM opinion was the only one that mattered... If you read it that way...Sorry.

I see no reason why people would dislike 3.5.5, considering when 3.0 and 3.5 came out people complained about the plugins and asked why they weren't tested before launch for both bugs and the communities opinion one them, this is what 3.5.5 is hoping to achieve and if the only reason you're against it is because "no-rp" reasoning, I wholeheartedly trust there to be a reason to move over, even if it was as cliche as "oh no Gaius is leading an army of super intelligent Buddhist monks to force peace down our throats, oh no let's skedaddle!"

Okay... I usually don't post on "flame" threads, which this kind of resembles, but I do feel that I want to say a few words. ((For Gaius... it needs to be said :P))

 

This is a video game... the sole reason it exists is for people to have fun. If you are not having fun you have 2 options:

 

                     1 - Leave! Period! There is nobody forcing you to be here. If you are so upset at the state of things at LotC, then feel free to turn around and get the hell out of here.

 

                     2 - Give "Constructive" criticism. Let the admins/GM's/Mods/Whatevers know what the problems are, AND a possible solution. If you have no solution then don't make a post. Easy! They have heard from roughly 13 million people that whatever you are complaining about is wrong, and your post won't make a difference.

 

             Now, if you are a member of the staff, your job here is different. You are REQUIRED to make this a fun place. The only reason you exist is to make the server fun. You were chosen for your position because you showed something that other staff thought would bring fun to this server. If you think you are here for ANY other reason... you are wrong. Media Team makes videos about how fun LotC is. Forum Team keeps the negativity out of here so the rest of us can have fun on the website. Event Team runs events that create a fun environment. GM's make sure everyone has fun as a whole on the server. You may have the ability to "Call the Shots", but you don't... the community does. Without a player base it's just you, spawning diamonds for yourself in a tower somewhere for about 30 days until the server closes. Woohoo.. such fun! 

 

         That being said, I have huge respect for the staff, I know you put up with a lot of crap. But you signed up for it. You filled out an application to be a babysitter for hundreds of teenagers and children. You have nobody to blame but yourself. 

 

Okay, let's get to the solution part of this post...

 

           The staff needs to be reorganized. Badly. Each section of LotC needs a set group of Admins that are dedicated to making that area fun. NO CROSSOVER STAFF. When you try to take on more than one area, you can't spend as much time in each area that needs to be spent. Focus on your section and make it the best. When players are asked which part of LotC is their favorite... they should say your part. If they don't... work harder. This will require more staff than we currently have... that means hiring more staff. There are enough good people here that it should be no problem to fill the slots that are needed.

 

           Next, set the rules, with punishments, and uphold them. A strict rule set should be implemented that prevents people from breaking them. If people are having fun, they are less likely to cheat the system. The ones that do, don't need to be here. Banning forever is a perfectly legitimate punishment. People who willingly break rules are a**holes... get rid of em.

 

           Finally, trolling (OF ANY KIND) should not be tolerated. My opinion, but if you get enjoyment from treating others badly, not only should you not be on the server, but you shouldn't be allowed on the internet. Tell me your parents names so that I may punch them for raising such horrible children. Again this is a game... meant for fun... fun for EVERYBODY... not just you! That is selfishness and it is stupid. I feel that trolling in game & on the forums(either IC or OOC) should be a bannable offense. Again, just my opinion.

 

           That's where I am gonna end this post. Feel free to yell at me with CAPS LOCK, since that's what most people that disagree with me do. I love Lord of the Craft... I have since I joined back in 2011... I put as much into this server as I could when I wrote lore, and RP'd my little Dwarvish heart out. I would hate to see this community fall because of bad choices, forum yelling, and a delayed map change. 4.0 looks amazing so far, I along with many others have put SO many hours into the build and lore that I know it will be fantastic. Just be patient. Delays happen. It's not like Shift is just sitting back, watching you all suffer and laughing at how long you wait. They are trying. Give them a bit more time.
