A Letter Delivered To Norithel

A surly high elven messenger walked through Norithel, grumbling all the way. The Maheral often forced her to march through all kinds of overgrown landscape without so much as a days notice. It was always "Good llir, I have need of you!" or "Do be a dear and take this to someone for me." or even "I'd very much appreciate if you'd inform Kalenz that he is a simpering ninny." And, once more, she was told to march out to the middle of nowhere and hand a letter to "Dwyn of Norithel." Impossible, obviously, that he would get out from behind his desk and walk there himself. No! Send this one instead! She wasn't doing anything important!

She grumbles once more, before spotting the elf described as "Dwyn" by a local. Walking up to him, she places the letter in his hand without another word, before grumpily trudging off. Her tea was likely cold by now.

If Dwyn were to open the letter, it would read as thus--

"To Mr Dwyn/Signus or what-have-you.

As Maheral, I take an interest in many subjects, mainly that of the natural philosophy of science. The  true-world intrigues me far more than the workings of magic or the doldrums of political flim-flam. It is both my passion, and my vocation. So thus I come to you with a request.

I desire to construct a large crane-like device within your quaint little village. Likely in the location I have illustrated (rather well, might I add)--

Upon it will be suspended my newest attempt at a submersible vessel. I will not require too much room, but your settlement is the only one with enough deep water for my experiment to be performed without continuous difficulty.

I would ask your permission for such a project to begin, however that would give you the illusion of choice in the matter. I will be bringing around supplies for its construction in the next few elven weeks. Worry not about the actual assembly. My Consortium and I will handle such matters.

Regards etc etc,

L. Sullas, Maheral."

"A ship that sails UNDER the water...? What would you call that? A marine vessel that traverses at sub-surface levels...Hm...Marine...Sub...Sub...Marine..."

Art wanders off, stroking his non-existant goatee as this question would keep him occupied enough to abstain from self-toxication for at least another week.

Thanking the woman for delivering the letter and shooting her a polite smile. He unfolds the letter and starts to read through it when suddenly Artemic walks up, snatching away the private letter delivered directly to Dwyn's hand. The elf stands there perplexed as Artemic reads and begins mumbling to himself.

"A ship that sails UNDER the water...? What would you call that? A marine vessel that traverses at sub-surface levels...Hm...Marine...Sub...Sub...Marine..."

Promptly dropping the note, Dwyn snatches it from the air and strides after Artemic as he stokes his non-existant goatee. Swiftly he hits Art in the back of the head with the letter, shaking it in his face when he turns around "The nether are you doing, are you 'slow'? Don't take people's mail"

Turning away he walks off to his family's tent- the collection of cloth the townsfolks temporary home as construction on homes continues. He sits in the grass, crossing his legs and reading over the notice. When finished he grabs out his writing supplies and a board to use as a flat surface, writing out a response.

Lucion Sullas, Maheral of the Mali'Aheral

While you may not remember fully we have met before in the town of Leanniel, you spent some time speaking with Quavinir- the man whom I have my 'Last Name' from. Dwyn Signus would be the proper written form, though my last name is only by marriage, as I do not use a last name myself. So Simply Dwyn will suffice.

Onto the contents of your letter- I appreciate you taking an interest in my settlement, and I thank the Sohaer for allowing us to use this land in order to construct our town's farms- It can also be noted that the fish that has been flowing into the Citadel has came from our very waters, fished by the delightful Della.

Your interest in building a vessel has been noted and we will endeavor to give you the space for building, if your people require aid in any sort we will do our best to meet them. I only ask that you or your builders do not cause unneeded conflict within our walls.

It is a rule that all of the town must follow, and if disobeyed those who incited anger or conflict will be asked to leave the town for a short while in order to cool down.

All this simply means is have your men and women keep to their work and not fling useless insults at my people as some Mali'Aheral often do. As it only causes conflict between our people where energy can be put to more useful efforts, such as science or working the land.

I wish for your safety and health, and good luck in your efforts to build this submersible vessel,

Arveldir smacks Artimec in the back of the head, "It's always either stealing letters or omnipotent comments with you. Shush."

"It travels at a sub level of the marine environment. Therefore we shall call it a "Goey Underwater Device."

Ellsia looks at plans for a dwarven submarine which were never finished due to the stupidity and uselesness of such a device. She then takes a sidelong glance to a dwarven steamship, which she knows Elves don't have plans for. She then wonders how this submarine was supposed to even go forwards.
