Universal Songs For All To Know!

PLEASE NOTE: I wasn't entirely sure were to post this, but I figured ideas was as good as any place.

Not everyone on this server will know who I am currently as I just came back from a very long absence. But in my short time back I've noticed something that is lacking, after watching some Elves sing "The Safety Dance" in an Inn I realised, we have nothing to sing! No drinking songs, no folk songs, no songs of heroes etc. When people get drunk, they like to sing! When people march, they like to sing! So I've taken it upon myself to compose, compile and gather a few short drinking songs accompanied by a pair of longer ones that should be known throughout Athera for people to sing! It will give an opportunity for people to get rowdy together as they sing these bawdy drinking songs about women and ale and wine. Feel free to add to these songs, write your own songs, find your own songs, anything! Just so long as they're great to sing in groups or with friends in some cheery Inn.

Songs:

“The Oren Knight’s Wife.”

The Oren Knight’s wife was as fair as the sun,

and her kisses were warmer than spring.

But the Oren Knight’s blade was made of black steel,

and its kiss was a terrible thing.

The Oren Knight’s wife would sing as she bathed,

in a voice that was sweet as a peach,

But the Oren Knight’s blade had a song of its own,

and a bite sharp and cold as a leech.

As he lay on the ground with the darkness around,

and the taste of his blood on his tongue,

His brothers knelt by him and prayed him a prayer,

and he smiled and he laughed and he sung,

"Brothers, oh brothers, my days here are done,

the Oren Knight’s taken my life,

But what does it matter, for all men must die,

and I've tasted the Oren Knight’s wife!"

“Dwarven Drink”

“Oh you can search far and wide, You can drink the whole town dry,
But you’ll never find an ale so brown,
As the one we drink in our hometown,
As the one we drink in our hometown,
You can keep your fancy spirits,
You can drink them by the bottle,
But the only brew for the brave and true…
… Comes from a Dwarven flagon!”

“Down in Dwarven-town”

“Clash, crash! Crush, smash!

Hammer and tongs!  Knocker and gongs!

Pound, pound, far underground!

Ho, ho! my lad!

Swish, smack! Whip crack!

Batter and beat! Yammer and bleat!

Work, work! Nor dare to shirk,

While Dwarves quaff, and Dwarves laugh,

Round and round far underground

Below, my lad!”

“Wine in my hand!”

“My intention is to die
In the tavern drinking
Wine must be at hand, for I
Want it when I’m sinking
Elves when they come shall cry,
“Spare this drunkard, oh my, he’s high,
Absolutely stinking!””

“Ho! Ho! Ho!”

“Ho! Ho! Ho! to the bottle I go
To heal my heart and drown my woe.
Rain may fall and wind may blow,
And many miles be still to go,
But under a tall tree I will lie,
And let the clouds go sailing by!
But always I shall remember my!
Love for the green glass bottle!”

“Four Old Whores”

“There were four old whores from Pravets

Drinking ale and wine.

The topic of conversation was

"Mine is bigger than thine.'

Roly, poly, tickle my hole-y,

Smell of my slimy slough.

Then drag your nuts across my guts,

I'm one of the whorey crew.

The first old ***** from Pravets said,

"Mine's as big as the air.

The birds fly in, the birds fly out,

And never touch a hair."

The second old ***** from Pravets said,

"Mine's as big as the moon.

The men jump in, the men jump out,

And never touch the womb."

The third old ***** from Pravets said,

"Mine's as big as the sea.

The SHIPS sail in, the ships sail out,

And leave their rigging free."

The fourth old ***** from Pravets said,

"Mine's the biggest of all.

A man went up in the springtime,

And didn't come out till fall."

Har!”

“The North Remembers”

“Mountain’s high and valleys low,
The Northmen know, they know, they know,
Hearths of roaring red flame,
Snow as white, innocent as a maid,
The North knows, oh they know, they know,
In halls of log and stone,
In our castle keeps built on bone,
The North remembers and they know,
They know, they know, they know, they know,
Ne’er to forget, the deeds of those from long ago,
By blade, by cudgel, by axe, by stave,
The warriors of the North have gathered fame,
So gather round me hearty lads, and hear the tale of the Northern bands,
Winter, Othaman, and Stark!
The North shall ne’er forget these names, we know, we know, we know,
we know,
So quaff your ale young green lad, and enjoy our tales or two!”

Beware the Necromancer!

Old as the Earth, they came to stay
Casting their spells and spreading disarray.
Gloom, fright, dread and fear
Watch out children for when you hear,
Quiet, grief, pain and misery
Watch out men for when you see,
Creaky, crooked, ruins and immoral
Watch out dwarves for when you smell,
Death, evil, haunting and squeal,
Watch out elves when you feel,
Old, ancient, dark as night,
Watch out Halflings you’re in for a fright!

“Remember the Lenfarthing”

Sow the seeds, pluck the weeds!
Bake the bread, brew the mead!
Lenfarthing! Lenfarthing!
Who remembers the Lenfarthing!?,
Warm as a hearth, pretty as a maid!
Who remembers the Lenfarthing?

One sad day, with skies o’grey!
Dancing along on our merry way!
But a good day it t’wasn’t meant to be,
So carefully, carefully be on your guard!
For the angry Scourge are coming to play!

Bravely those of the Lenfarthing stood!
Waving their buckets, shovels, sticks and tools!
The Lenfarthing was not so merry on that day,
We worked all together, together as one!
But alas our efforts were all for none,
The Lenfarthing fell, and so did our homes,
But the Halflings are the merriest of folk!

The Ale ship floated away, stowed away the remaining brave
And Gamle Irongut kept the spells at bay,
But alas our our efforts were all for none,
And we were forced to sail away.

The Lenfarthing fell but our spirits remain!
You can’t take the fight from inside our frame!
Rebuilt and renewed we get on with it all,
For the Halflings are the hardiest of all!

“The Lord and Bastard of ‘Bresi”

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes
By the port, and the music in it roars
I love not man the less, but the Bastard o’Bresi.

A ruddy drop of manly blood,
The world uncertain comes and goes;
Like daily sunrise, like a sullen dusk
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
The twisting streets and broken cobbles,
Picking ones way carefully, all to seek the Lord’o ‘Bresi.

Break, break, break
On the cold grey stones,
O’Sing for the Bastard o’Bresi
Ballads for Ostromir and Tuvya,
Boldly they led, boldly they took,
Clean pickings o’Bresi,
But the tender grace of a day that is dead,
Will never come back.

“Ode to Kal’Dwain”

Brave few there were left to hold the walls,
To the gates lad, to the gates that should ne’er fall!
Grungron, Dominic, Spriggar, and Darius.
Tinkerers, warrior and brave all led the Dwarven few,
But it t’was to little avail, they stormed the walls,
Flooding in, pushing us back into our halls,
Tinkerers proved to be the bane of the attackers,
Their traps were vicious leaving none untouched,
But it was folly, Kal’Dwain was to fall,
We were but too few, stout defenders that could not go on,
And with sad tidings we do say, that day we lost Kal’Dwain.

“Kal’Karik”

Bellowing out, leading the charge,
Old King Hiebe was not about to break,
He rallied the legion, pushed the moral,
Old King Hiebe was an Irongut after all,
Deeds were done and names made,
Grungron Irongut proved his worth that day,
And legendary Kjell, the warrior above,
Fought till the hilt of his axe snapped clean,
Gorum Goldhand, the hero of the halls,
Leading the defence in a mean last stand,
Old King Hiebe sings his praises for all,
Even poor Reklu who gave all,
Grandaxe, Irongut, Ireheart and Goldhand,
You can always count on the Dwarves to be a hearty band,
Old King Hiebe lead the charge, he was not going to yield,
The attackers could not match the fury they showed,
Old King Hiebe made to throw back the evil men,

Many fell and Old King Hiebe toiled,
But King Hiebe did not stay,
Brave Dwarves squabbled,
And a new king came, but old Kal'Karik was there to stay.

Great job RedBench! You just got back and your making great songs!

If I could, I'd like to request the fall of the Ironguts hold in Asulon Kal'dwain, and the great siege of Kal'Karik when we held against the flays. PM me or msg me at Hiebenhall IG about it.
