The Year 111 BC

A band of Badiwiyun or Bedouin traversed the Sayhad between the Sabaean and the Himyarite Kingdoms. An elder in his forties requested to meet with King Kyrat and is ushered into his palace. The old man looked haughty, dressed in chain-mail and a purple turban indicative of the riches that he and his people seemed to have inquired. He sat at the foot of the throne and played with a peculiar orb that looked like a wooden die and rolled it between his two feet. He looked up and spoke at last:

"The Badawi look between thou and Karib il-Watar

Such a fight would settle a great matter

While we ride the fringes of desert and you settle oasis

Your kind and I have required each other on a daily basis

Do you not wonder who guards the caravan routes?
It is the Badawi, warriors guarding trade of varied amounts

Do you not wonder who feeds us and our cows and lamb?

It is to your settled kingdoms, indebted we truly am!

However, there rises two Kingdoms and the Badawi know not

Of whom the two we should serve, thus when you all have fought

We will know truly to whom we ought to aid!"

The Bedouin elder got up and began to exit the palace, stopping at the door and turning. He urged Muhammad Kyrat to choose the path of war and defeat Karib il-Water for then and only then, the Bedouin would truly come to Himyar's aid.

Meanwhile, half a continent away, the thing or assembly had convened. At the Danube River and its crossing the Amber Route, many tribes pitched tent and mound and rested a few days. Finally, the armies of the Theutobod arrived, numbering 20,000 and en mass appeared to leave the Aedui, Arverni, Rhaetii, and Saxones awestruck. A few druids of the Carnutes began the assembly by introducing King Theutobod of the Cimbri and Teutones. The King stood up as high as he could upon a shard of slate and began to rile the spirits of the Celts among him. He urged all Celts, no matter their cultural differences, to aid him in his quest to push south and invade the land of the foreign Etruscans donning linen cloths. He made known that his target is not simply conquest, but to throw down the false pantheon at the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus and cleanse the omphallos. He noted that the Gauls once cleansed the omphallos of Delphi and thus awarded with the right to enter to Otherworld [these Gallic tribes would become the Galatians most revered in Christian mythology].

The King looked to each of the representatives from the Aedui, Arverni, Rhaetii, and Saxones and gave them a week to ponder the prospect of joining his expedition south.

Meanwhile, Gaius Marius has been elected Praetor in Italy. He suggests a series of reforms that brought the Roman army out of a self-supplying volunteer force and into a state-governed military system that had their equipments improved and their organization stream-lined and rectified. The fate of this reform lies in the Senate's hands.

Moderator Actions

  • Egypt: Settlement and scouting goes as planned, the city-state of Halikarnassus requests Pergamum's assistance and warns the Ptolemaic Dynasty from expanding further west in Asia Minor.
  • China: Settlement and scouting goes as planned, but Turkic tribes are found and stirred. Likewise, along your coast, you find odd ships shaped in the round fashion of the turtle. Be on your guard.
  • Saxones: Settlement and scouting goes as planned, but you discover the Belgae to your west and they are mobilizing for defense.
  • Rome: Scouting and settlement leads you to discover the Ligurians who prefer your rule after they, through the Amber Route, hear word of Theutobod. They warn the Romans and advise the Romans to organize their military. Likewise, the Greek colony of Massilia is found and folds to the Romans due in part to preferring Latin culture over the barbar cultures of the North.
  • Rhaetii: Scouting/Settling goes as planned, but you discover the Illyrians and Daci tribes to your east. They appear to have some Hallstatt influence, but strangely do not speak your tongue. Possibly Slavic?
  • Aedui: Scouting/settling goes as planned, but you discover the Carnutes tribe to your northeast. Strangely enough, they ask for trade and offer to take royal children under their tutelage for the Carnutes tribe is one of the main-stays of Continental Druids, second only to the infamous Ynys Mon in Pritannia.
  • Brigantes: The Caledonians obliged the military alliance and share with you their southernmost province as a source for mercenaries. Scout/settling goes as planned.
  • Himyars: The scout boats are still on their way to India, your King is admonished if he is suggesting a monotheistic faith over the actual polytheism. They would respect Uzza, Allat, etc. as well
  • Lustotani, Macedon, Seleucids: This mod post will neither confirm or deny your actions, I will make one in the morning when I get back from work. Expect some big gears moving for the three of you hence I saved you for last.

Himyar

Mohammed Kyrat sits in his office, thinking deeply. He had ruled in peace for many years, only having to take care of minor bands of robbers, and occasionally the organized bandit army. For many hours, he sits and thinks. Finally, he stands, and nods to his generals. He rides quickly with a small group of personal bodyguards, moving to line up with his armies. He's left his son, Qasim Kyrat, who he'd been teaching rule to at home, in case the worst happened. Mohammed arrived late in the night to the camps, and caught some quick rest. As the sun came up, and the men were rallied and formed up, he rode to the front, giving a speech to the men.

They marched for Karib's host, for a battle that was sure to rock the balance of the Arabian Peninsula.

The Republic of Carthage

The Carthaginian scouts are sent further east and west from the Gamanites and Nubians, hoping to find other civilisations across Africa's coast.

In the Baelaric Islands, Carthage sends a large amount of settlers, with a 20 gold stimulus from the government, to sail north to find suitable land (Around where is now Barcelona), They are backed up with a unit of infantry, and to establish a trading city/fort to make territorial gains in Iberia.

From the newly built shipyard, Carthages navy is also sent to scout around the Mediterrinian, in hopes of finding islands (such as Malta)

In sardinia, The Carthaginians settle further north, to try and bring the whole island under Carthage's control.

Diplomacy:

The offers of trade from Macedon and Egypt are accepted hastily.

An offer of vassalization is sent to the Garmanites and Numidians, stating that they will be protected from potential aggresion from other kingdoms, and a fairly similar culture to each other.

The city of Gadiz issued forth diplomats between Kartuba and the Carthaginians, requesting dire military aid from a possible Lusotani attack. The city of Gadiz shared a Phoenician bond towards Carthage and hoped to pull on the common ties. Kartuba flew the flags of the Carthaginian Empire and fell under their banners in hopes of warding off Iberian antagonism.

Meanwhile, in the northern mountains of Thraikia, there stirred a great tribe. Byzantium sent an urgent missive stating to the Macedonians that an army of both Scythians and the Getai are nearing their town and pleaded for military aid lest the town be sacked. The Basileus of Macedon is urged to take immediate action.

Within the western portion of the Seleucid Empire, Jews began requesting more religious autonomy and separate courts for their Rabbis to supervise those of the Jewish faith.

  • Carthage finds that the Garamantes, with no centralized state, obliged the offer. However, the Numidians laughed grandly at the thrilling idea that somehow Phoenician and the Numidian cultures were anything alike and rejected the offer. Carthage awkwardly finds Ptolemaic settlers at Malta and the two navies seem to be at a stand-off.
  • The Aedui find the Belgae a rather harsh target and the Belgae are unaware of the assembly taking place by King Theutobod.

Parthia

Economy

Thirty Eight in newest tax

Sixteen from silk and toll road

One hundred and sixty from Resources and trade

Ninety Three in treasury

Two hundred and eleven*2- Five hundred and twenty two in total

Seeing jews clamoring for reform in the Seleucid Empire, Xerxes deemed Parthia should see that as an example. Not only jews, but any religious community or person was granted freedom of worship. Public places of worship were allowed to be built, and people worshipped without fear of repression. Along with all the works going on in the capital, Parthia was becoming a place of culture, trade, and science.

The Scythians mobilizing north of Parthia were to be dealt with light handedly. Given gifts, along with ten gold, they were assured Parthia would not expand into their lands. Xerxes bid the scouts spread the warning of the coming steppe clans to the Scythians. They are encouraged to migrate past the Caspian sea, and then down south into the crescent. -Mod

As for the threatening horde rumored to come Parthia's way, the army would expand again. The Seleucids are asked to provide military assistance if the hordes do come next. If they didn't help they would just be next to fall, and the silk road trade would be ruined. The two would have to stand together.

Recruitment begins, the following units issued into action

Ten cataphracts

Six Dahae cav archers

Four Sparabara archers

Fifteen heavy infantry

Ten slingers

Ten Immortals

Parthia's Total Army

Twelve Cataphracts

Nine Dahae Cav Archers

Twenty Five Immortals

Two ax-men

Fifteen Heavy Infantry

Ten Sparabara Archers

Ten Slingers

Parthia was left with One hundred Eighty Two chest of gold after the gifts and recruitment.

With the military expansion done in the east, the whole Parthian army besides garrison units return to the core of Parthian rule. Resting and resupplying for the expected steppe horde onslaught, the men would be stationed in cities throughout Parthia. After their expected rest, they would begin to aid in the building of defense projects and walls on the larger cities.

A School is built along with all the other projects in Parthia's capital. The gold is procured to build it, and people from noble families attend the first year of the school's existence. Parthia's treasury stands at One hundred forty seven gold chest.

Some of Parthia's troops are called from resting to expand into the four newest provinces that were scouted to the east. The lands closest to the core were expected to be taken easily, and the land by the Mauryans the same.

With the triangle alliance between the Parthians, Bactrians, and Mauryans cooperation in this part of the east was kept high. An entourage containing Parthian cataphracths, Bactrian pikes, and Mauryan noble swords heads down the silk road. Not disrupting trade or aggravating the local nations, they simply went until they would stumble on the rumored stepper horde heading their way. If their leader accepted to talk, the three countries allied would offer them gold to avoid their kingdoms. The military procession of professional troops would hopefully show it would not be worth fighting them and instead convince them to go around.  -Mod

Seleucid Empire

DIPLOMACY POST

"Full Trade Offensive"

TREASURY: 326 + 46(2)[Provinces] + 11(2)(2)(2)[Trade Deals] + 16[Trade Routes]

New Total: 522

Trade Caravans travel along the Mediterranean sea, and a port is constructed along the Coast nearest to Antioch in order to allow overseas trade. As such, new trade deals are offered to those surrounding the Mediterranean coastline which the Seleucids knew of.

A small merchant fleet arrives in the great Port of Carthage. On board are various exotic resources from the furthest reaches of the Empire which are offered to the Carthaginians in exchange for their own resources. (Trade Deal Only)

A smaller detachment, after resupplying in Carthage, would head to the great city of Rome. Word of the mighty Republic had reached even those in Antioch and the Basileus wanted to share in the wealth of this land. A trade deal is offered as well as talks of trading information about lands surrounding each of the two. (Trade Deal + Map Info)

Traders of the Empire soon reach the home of Alexander, and fellow Successor Kingdom, Macedon. They enter the court again baring gifts from far off lands in similar fashion to the approach in Carthage. Again the hope would be to secure a strong trade bond between the two as well as protect against lesser Successor Kingdoms who have no true right to rule. (Trade Deal + Military Alliance)

The Hymar are received in Antioch and given comfortable lodging while negotiations enter their first phases. A military alliance and trade deal are negotiated.

CONSTRUCTION

Port(x1) - Near Antioch (25 Gold)

Toll Road (x10) - Manned Stations Along Royal Route AND Silk Road (30)

"Wu Huangdi, Giant turtles are reported along the coast by fisherman and armored ships by archer regiments."

"Our Scouts have found tribes to our West, Wu Huangdi."

The Emperor Wu, now in his 70's, sat back in the Dragon Throne of the Celestial Emperor. He had known that his Empire would not be able to expand without eventually finding something, but the turtles were a different matter. The two reports were likely the same, which meant that Korea or Japan had built a new kind of ship.

Hàn wǔdì shuō:

(Emperor Wu announced:)

"Wèile yìngduì wēixié dì hǎijūn, wǒmen jiànlì chuánbó, dàn fāsòng wàijiāo guān qiánwǎng Hánguó"

(To combat these ships, we will build our own navy, but send a diplomat to Korea.)

"Bàojià bùluò jiārù Zhōngguó."

(Offer the tribes a chance to join China.)

Large Chinese Junks begin construction in the Han shipyards for 5 gold each (Unless told otherwise). 10 are built for a total of 50 gold.

Settlers are sent to explored and uninhabited provinces.

All images of Karib il Watar are struck down in anguish, the people of the Sabaeans tore at their clothes and wept for their fallen leader. Bedouin flooded throughout the eastern Sayhad and wrecked havoc, plundering all they could from temple and storehouse. Muhammad Kyrat came out a victor at the battle and the lands of Arabia folded from either the political vacuum of the fallen Arab leader or the Bedouin pledging support to Kyrat.

  • The Scythians oddly enough take the advice and suspiciously migrate east.
  • The Turkic tribes laughed at the offer from China, Korea is found to have a very good navy and moderate army. Oddly enough, you catch them mid-mobilization for an excursion
  • NEW RULES: Each trade deal gets you +20 gold instead of x2 trade resources.
  • NEW RULES: You can ONLY have three units per province now, +4 units per province if you are CELTIC CULTURE or MARIAN ROMAN CULTURE.
