((Spoiler contains big spooky spider. Thou hath been warned!))

skull-spider.jpg?w=640

Midnight.

Atop a large and mighty tree, found hundreds of kilometers from civilisation, a curious and soon to be endangered species of spider rest in relative silence. The empty rattling of bones is heard as each spider knocks into the other. Winter arrives, and with it, so does the great sleep. These spiders migrated from kilometers away, all to the tree that they had hatched from.

This, however, would prove to be their downfall. So great in number they were, that the tree would soon collapse upon them. A great and thundery crash later, and the sound of a thousand skulls cracking, the brood had all but disappeared.

Fifteen spiders crawled out of the mess. Their shells cracked, their cold minds rattled, but their bodies relatively unharmed, nonetheless. With no brood mother to follow, and no conscience keeping them attached to one another, they wandered away. Preparing for the winter would be the only priority on their basic, cold minds...

((Alright, following my recently accepted lore for Skull Hermit Spiders, I decided to write a RP post announcing that they are open for 'adoption'! The lore post is here: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/117172-skull-hermit-spiders/

If you want to have one of these spiders, please RP a little paragraph or two of your character stumbling across it and taking it in. Those who provide nice RP are bound to get what they ask for! If there are clashing requests, then I will choose who gets what.

Tip: These spiders are most likely going to be found in warm houses, as they must hide from the cold, even though they are capable of doing so in their skulls (because it's warmer in a house)

Spiders Available:

(The larger they are, the less loyal they will be, as they won't have been with you since a hatchling)

5 Small spiders, with empty egg shells upon their backs.
- Xirena (GrimHonk)
- Faunher'Gorkil (Faunherer)

3 Medium spiders, with a dog skull, cat skull, bear skull, or other.

2 Large Spiders , with an orc , human, elf, etc skulls.

1 Very Large Spider (Max size), with what looks like an overly large Olog skull. The skull has red burial paint on it. - Wun (jonhan2)

Uniques (For those materialists out there):

A small, curiously blood red spider, splotched with white. Just hatched, with it's empty egg shell as its shelter. - Hakav (Cneyele)

A small-medium spider, with golden-banded legs and a cold blue shape, like a sword, upon its back. It has a Bird of prey's skull. - Kryllaal (Intense_death)

A small spider, with zig-zag strips of green and grey. Its web is a violent yellow colour. It has a small cat skull. - Katari (Usoppthesniper)

A medium spider, with a horned goat skull. Its eyes are a red colour, and it has an odd, star shaped symbol upon its back and belly. - Zaviel (Triplewing)

Whelp, that's about it! Cya later!))

I'd suggest putting that picture in a spoiler. It doesn't affect me because I own a Goliath IRL but that is going to freak arachnophobes the **** out. Spoiler and warning should do.

Zaviel strolled idly within the keep of Nerezza, his hands buried deep into the pockets of his robe that waved in the hues of indigo as he stepped towards his room. A turn left behind the stairs, and a sharp turn right. The man bent down before a rather low doorframe, with a peculiar symbol carved above the door. He produced a key from the depths of his pockets, pushing it into the keyhole without further thought. The curtain that blocked the view inside the room swished to the side as the man stepped into the area that seemed much like a junkyard. It was Zaviel's chamber. Several crystals glimmering and shining their dim glow in the darkened room, and an orrery made of scrap bits of impure aurum and ornamental spheres slowly hanged just above his head, from the ceiling. The room was filled with odds and ends, and anyone could instantly tell the owner loved collecting useless, yet fancy junk. A sigh escaped his lips, as he made his way to his desk, looking at the endless pile of requests. They must've come from the chute above, as an odd pipe seemed to push through the ceiling of his room.

As he searched through the scrolls and notes, he noticed the skull of a goat move ever so slightly in the corner of his eye, it was something that used to sit atop some other parchments as a paperweight. "Huh?" He asked himself, as he turned his attention towards the skull. The skull seemed to slowly move by itself indeed.

In wary steps he inched closer, narrowing his eyes.. though soon his eyes widened as he realized the slightly hairy legs of a spider pushed out of the skull. He realized it could be his only chance to capture this magnificent yet ominous creature. His gaze darted across the room, towards a jar that could probably fit the spider; though it was already inhabited by a newt. He grabbed the jar and made his way towards the table where the spider was, going to try to trap it within the jar temporarily.. besides, the newt-dinner of the day was ready to be served.

I think you are fit for this! You get the goat skull spider, assuming you were aiming to get it, and that no one else wishes to contest it! Remember to RP gaining its trust, first!))

As the evenings sun slowly crept over towards the distant mountain that obscured the path of any whom tried to look it's way. A figure, dressed in simple grey robes headed along. Though no destination was planned. An escape from the chores of everyday life led along through the twisting forests that lay ahead. After what seemed hours, the woman stopped to relieve the hood that covered her head. Revealing herself as some would have known her as Stella. Though now taking on the name of Hakav Karm. Peering around a few times as darkness settled across the lands now, she then took a small, red crystal from one of the creases of her robes.

Giving a small squeeze, the odd material began to shimmer with a faint glow. Giving just enough light to see what was beyond a few yards. The woman moved forward, uncaring of where her feet took her. Until something along the ground that she watched seemed to skitter ever so slightly. Freezing in place, her eyes locked on the faint movements barely noticed as she was about to pass. Kneeling down after seeing no vile trickery of magic or that of a trap, ready to be sprung.

Only to notice a tiny, blood red spider, having white splotches on it, as well as what seems to be the remains of an egg. Draped over it as if it were purposely carrying it along as it etched its way across the ground. Eyes widening, the woman slowly reached a gauntleted hand down to her bag. A sense of urgency as she fumbled to take a small glass jar out. Sealed off on one end with a quark. Removing the spongy material from the end, she slowly dipped the open end of the container down in front of the tiny spider's path, hoping it crawls in as she tries to remain as still as possible.

((I'm interested in getting one of these, but I don't know how the RP of gaining it's trust and loyalty would work. What exactly would a character have to do? Just feed it and look after it? Also, I assume that if someone picks the smaller spiders, they will eventually grow into large spiders. Am I correct about that?))

The spider, oblivious to the jar-trap about to change its life, wanders towards the only source of heat it can sense; the woman. After a short climb, it would find itself against a cold and hard surface; certainly not the warmth it had expected! ((You caught it! Now you can become the best spider-master, like no one ever was! RP the correct taming (feed, provide skulls as it grows...feed some more. A little training, perhaps) and you're good to go! Also, please provide your character name! :)  ))

((Feed and look after it. Yes, they grow into larger spiders, and you must either allow them to acquire new skulls (less bonding) or give a new, clean one to them (they will love you for that!...well, as much as a cold predator can love) ))

The path to San'Vitar trembles under the big feet of the giant Wun, snacking on a handful of squirrels. While stopping to pick up a big rock, a huge skull spider hiding in an olog's skull is revealed to him. He stares curiously at the spider, dropping his dead squirrels as he reaches in to grab it, but before he could even move his hand anywhere near the spider it has already sprinted over to the squirrels to feast. Wun stands there quietly for several minutes, watching the spider eat. "Har har har, id am layk Wun." The towering olog mumbles, as he grabs his bag of food from his back, tossing some dead swamp rats to the spider. He squats down to the big spider, gaping at it's hunger, not understanding that this spider has probably been stuck under the rock for quite some time.

The spider's appetite is not as great as the olog expected, and crawls up Wun's leg, making it's way into his bag filled with the warm bodies of dead rabbits, squirrels and other 'snacks'. Wun does not bother with this, chuckling as he walks home with his new friend.

After watching the small, crimson colored spider take refuge inside the jar she had so carefully placed in it's path. The other gauntleted hand moved to slowly cork the end off. Shedding a faint smile, Hakav stood to place the container in her robes once more. Making sure to keep it warm on the trip back. Pulling the weathered hood over her head and turning about. The robed woman set a course in the direction she had walked from.

Kryllaal stomps into San'Vitar, not noticing Wun having fun with his own giant spider. He grunts when he reaches his cave, pulling a handful of warm fish out of a sack and dropping them into a pile of other rotting foodstuffs. He frowns as he does so, noticing that the pile is wriggling more than usual, even though there aren't many maggots. He snorts, and pushes the top half of the pile over, and rotting food spills across the cave floor. Kryllaal blinks several times, taken aback by the spider underneath quickly retreating into the skull of an eagle. Next to it lays a raw, partially eaten, fish. He scratches a tusk, with an amused smile on his face, and leans down to pick up a fresh piece of meat from the counter. He sits on the floor, and pokes at the skull with the steak, grumbling happily as the spider slowly crawls out and begins to eat the meat. After finishing this, the spider crawls part-way up Kryllaal, and then onto the counter to carry on eating the steak that's there. It appears that Kryllaal had made a new friend.

((I like how you incorperated the feeding into the RP! Remember, it will likely leave unless he keeps it caged up for a few days, and feeds it until it trusts him. Perhaps have him go hunting with it. Realise that it will prefer roaming free, and might only want to hang around Wun when called, since it's not as loyal and is big. Have fun RPing with it!))

Katari shivers slightly, the cold from the Urguan mountains spreading over his homestead as he walks through the gates. He shuffles inside, sighing in relief as he closes the doors. The house was built to trap the heat, one of the reasons why his Druidic wife was able to maintain all the plants in the house with ease. He trudges downstairs, making his way to the Mini-grove to visit Leonard the III, his pet sheep. He sighs contently as he walks into the Mini-grove, watching animals and nature scurry about.

The sound of a small bone smacking another one catches his attention, his gaze shifting over to a side of the room where mice lived. He saw Marx, the reanimated skeletal crow, pecking at... He squints, pondering to himself. "Is that a... cat skull? What. Did it just move?" He trudges closer, scowling at Marx which in turn causes the bird to hop away. He blinks a few times as he sees flashes of green and gray sink into the skull as the spider retreats back into its home. A small scurrying catches his attention as his gaze diverts to the wall. A small family of rats had made their way into the Mini-grove, most likely for the same reasons why the spider had found its way down here.

"I take it you're hunting them?" Katari murmurs, tapping his chin a few times. "Well, most things in the Grove are strong, so be careful. You've come to a rough neighborhood." He stretches idly before making his way over to rat nest. He kicks some dirt into it and makes a small ruckus, causing a few rats to scamper out. Katari curb stomps one of them and picks the body up, heading back over to the spider. He places the corpse down in front of Acaelus the II (name for the spider) and takes a step back, waiting to see what it'll do.

The room filled with the musky scent of damp fur as Faunher'Gorkil dropped the freshly killed stag on the blarg's hard clay floor.  The Uruk's hawk, which was a useful messenger, and often accompanied him on the hunt, departed his shoulder and flew to its perch.  Faunher'Gorkil lit a fire in the center of the room, then descended below to his workshop to retrieve his skinning knife.

While sharpening his knife, a soft thud from above disrupted him, then a broken and gargled screech.  Hurrying back up the ladder, Faunher'Gorkil witnessed his hawk laying on the ground below its perch, wings outspread and twitching slightly.  Its amber eyes turned a deep red as quick as the twitching subsided.  Faunher noticed the neck of the bird was slightly swollen, as if its neck had been broken.  The Uruk peered up at the perch, to see what may have caused the fall, and he saw a small creature, smaller than his fist, with what appeared to be a small shell enclosing its body.  Eight thin, hairy legs protruded out from the shell, and from a crack in the front poked out two perilous fangs, gleaming red with the blood of the hawk.  The hawk was four times the size of the small spider, yet it fell nonetheless.

Faunher'Gorkil watched, dumbfounded as the shelled-spider descended from the perch with a single spindly string onto the body of its prey below.  The Uruk would have been compelled to kill the creature, if he were not too fascinated with what it was doing to the corpse.  The spider, with the ridged inside edges of its fangs, peeled the flesh back and scraped the meat off the hawk's skull.  Upon revealing the opening at the base of the skull, the spider started feeding on the bounty within.  In less than an hour, the spider had cleaned and hollowed the skull, which was slightly larger than it.  Faunher'Gorkil was impressed with the creature, to say the least.  He would have been furious at the death of his hawk if he did not see in the spider an opportunity for a greater hunting partner.  Crouching over the stag, Faunher'Gorkil hacked off a section of backstrap and tossed it towards the spider, which voraciously began consuming the meat.  Faunher'Gorkil was pleased and mystified with this new beast, and was determined to make it his.

I'm going to sleep now. Will check this tomorrow! If you want me to remember, please quote one of my posts on this topic, as my update bar will notify me xD Night!))
