Because the main-road plot is just as beneficial for activity for them as it is anyone else. It simply manifests in a different way.

"If you're not a high elf or one of their specific friends."

Second part is true, yes, but I think that for the location, the high elves are too restrictive on who they allow to Rp there. If what really matters is seclusion, why make yourselves a massive plot on the main road that everyone goes to?

I think you are playing into the trope that high elven RPers can't change. Sure the gate is closed but there are plenty of random people who come in just for the sake of creating RP. It really isn't about seclusion and I think it has been pretty successful in creating RP for not just the high elves but for those that come to that gate. Yes there are some helven players who fall back into the "not a high elf not coming in" but overall I feel we have curved it to where anyone that comes and offers RP that isn't trolly can very likely get in.

The two reasons that I'm not fully satisfied with HE RP:

- I can't find any people to be racist with. I mean, we should all get together in a band and walk into the Standing Inn and insult random people. It's a perfectly normal characteristic of the aheral.

- No one is at the Haelun'or gates to let me in. D:

If it's creating Rp then I stand corrected, but I've only ever seen it closed and people not being let in, so that's where my words are coming from. Granted, I wasn't on before today for three or four days so I don't know exactly what's been going on but it's not entirely encouraging when people you give gifts Rply ignore your attempts to Rp with them. :p

I generally despise closed-gate policies whenever they exist, though, as I find them to be an Rp canceller rather than an Rp enabler.

People tend to kill them for that, these days. :(

And that sucks about the gate, dude. But keep trying! Timezones can be a pain!

I'm sorry to say this but my favorite part about being a high elf is gate rp.. I can have a nice friend conversation with someone without them being able to pvp default me or you know try and stab me. If that is all your after then the gate has served it's job.. but if I really feel safe I can come outside the city and come talk to you. The City is our home much like your city is yours. We keep our door close because we like to pick who comes into our home. This also generates a feeling of safety which makes the high elven city a very good place to want to be and not get kicked out of.

As for our rp reason, I don't believe this will change too much to an open gate system for the reason that if we dont have to worry about thieves and murderers coming after our loved ones, we can spend more time studying and having tea parties which I love doing. There is no worry about walking by someone who's cybering or bad minas or die rp.. Just simple, nice, logical rp. the kind that makes you think or sometimes want to hit the other person over the head for calling you a 1000 and one names. :)

What I'm saying is that there are many types of rp on this server. This is just one of them. A people that fights with mainly our words.

HE have had a closed gate policy since early Asulon, so it's not likely to change any time soon.

Also to all who'd say this is destructive to HERP it's been 3 years and still kicking so... yeah.

immortal race, immortal culture :)

Pie's point wasn't that it hurts Helf RP, but that having a large plot in an ideal location on the main road doesn't make sense for a group with a closed gate policy. You guys would do just fine wherever you are, yet you're right on the road where everyone can find you but no one can get in. Coincidentally, all the past helf locations have been somewhat out of the way, or even totally hidden.

Frankly, I like being off the main road a bit. Being right on the main road is asking to becone an edgy den

We have 20 people bound to our pillar now! Another 16 who live here but just have build perms. I'm super optimistic about laurehlin

We have a lot of Citizens who also are not on skype so I cannot be bothered to gather them all up one by one to fill out this survey when you can easily look at our nexus pillar for more accurate results

As irritating as this "my cock is bigger than your cock" thread Supremacy made is, I'm happy with the current situation between us and the high Elves

They should make a chart comparing who voted and where they live to how satisfied they are with RP. Also, I would make it a grading system insteady of a yes no partially.

Seems one group of elves were informed about this in advance ;)

Edity edit: Elven roleplay is vague, should be split up into Wood Elves, High elves, etc. I'm happy with wood elves, but not so happy with the skype diplomats.

-snip-

This. However, after spending more time observing how things have been going I'm going to rescind my closed gate complaint. It's being handled just fine from what I can see.
