[Rant] Stop This, Seriously.

Alright, so basically, this is one of my biggest pet peeves or rather, pet hates on LOTC. Basically, when I see people with a certain skin that doesn't even make sense compared to the time period of LOTC, now this /really/ annoys me, like seriously, when the server is ment to be set in the 15th century and I see people wearing Fedoras and 20th century suits, it really gets on my nerves and it destroys immersion, now I get that this server is high fantasy which is all fine and dandy but at least try to stick to the period in which the game is set in. Moving on, this is when I really start to get pissed off, I walk around to see people with vibrant coloured hair, which is completely stupid, why on earth would a Woman want her dye her like that in the 15th century, oh wait, they wouldn't! They would most probably be accused for being a Witch! And burnt, gg. Now to finalise, this is where things really, /really/ piss me off, the worst thing of all is when I see people with Weapons and tools that don't fit the time period whatsoever, I see people using hypodermic needles which didn't even exist until the 19TH CENTURY. Now I get that you may want to inject people with things fair enough, but you could at least use a Knife coated in the substance, it's much more lore friendly, and to continue with the whole needle idea, there is no way in hell that someone could make a Hypodermic needle with such a fine, hollow point, they just don't have the manufacturing techniques, to continue with this, yesterday I saw someone using a /Wrench/ as a weapon, a Wrench, a tool which is used to dissasemble and help assemble nuts and bolts, which again, don't even exist.

The reason why this annoys me so much is because when I create a skin/character I try to make their apparel and look fit the time period as well as their overall character, I was so tempted to give one of my characters a Cutlass, but as they weren't even invented yet, I decided not to, and instead gave him a Falchion, it's really not hard people, If you want to play some edgy steam punk guy with a respirator I suggest you find another RP server or try to come up with an alternative. Now to end on a positive note I will add that most of the people on the server especially groups such as Renatus, Carrion etc actually do use skins, armour and weapons that actually fit with the time period, along with some other groups who are less advanced in technology such as the Fáoláins (Hate to brag), Orcs and Kha who use more primitive weaponry and armour, so props to you lot!

LotC is not meant to be set in the 15th century. Some of our technology, attitudes, and ideologies are as advanced or more advanced than those of modern times, and other technology, attitudes, and ideologies are analogous to the early Middle Ages, or earlier. We're really not medieval at all. (Not to mention that most people who try to act medieval actually fail to be realistic and base their 'medievalism' off of misconceptions).

that doesnt mean that people should wield wrenches

wrenches would be okay if this was a steampunk oriented server or had a dash of it, but it isn't.

No, perhaps not, but Im speaking generally, the server is mainly based off of Medieval and Ancient history rather than modern day Europe/USA, when I say this I mean that the majority of the landscape is built with Medieval housing and Castles, Government is also very similar to that of Medieval England (Especially in Oren) I mean, there is no Electricity that can be harnessed for power yet, is there? Nor is there any sort of Gun or Firearm that has been developed.. (Though I am unsure of Cannons.)

We have golems, which are effectively robots. Sounds like we have a dash of steampunk in our server. Why should someone not wield a wrench? We actually do have machine-like objects around that might need a wrench.

We have magic that functions as electricity does in many situations. In fact, certain places have light switches that can turn lights on/off at whim! Sounds like electricity to me. I disagree that the majority of the landscape is built with medieval housing and castles. This is true in Oren which, surprisingly, is the part of the server that Rps 'medievalism.' We don't have guns or firearms because the Lore Team has said that it will never be added ever for a plethora of reasons. Considering we have gunpowder and explosives of other forms, it's realistic to believe that without the Ooc barriers, we would indeed have firearms and cannons given our current technology.

LotC is not a medieval Rp server. It is a fantasy Rp server where people are allowed to Rp what they want within the bounds of our extensive lore. Just as you are free to Rp living in the Middle Ages with medieval governments and castles, others are free to /not/ Rp living in the Middle Ages.

For a start, the Golems are made from /Stone/ not Metal, so I highly doubt they'd need a wrench because as I've said, bolts and nuts are not yet created, and as for the lights and light switches, I went to a town and I saw the Electricity pylon, and the Lore masters did /not/ allow it, and I think that closes my case..

Not set in the 15th century.

Women and men can dye their hair whatever colour they so please without fear of being accused of being a witch. Why? Because magic isn't a huge deal in LotC like it was in medieval times, not to mention it exists in lotc at all. There's small sects of humans (i think small) that go around burning "witches" but that's about it. It doesn't matter.

IMO medival/low fantasy is way better but I understnad not everyone likes it, so do what I do and just stay in the human lands.

I didn't say just golems. There are other machines around that are made of metal and might need a wrench. I will admit that I've seen that wrench weapon and I too have to agree it's a bit silly, but such is the freedom of Rp. I don't harbor any resentment towards someone because of the way they make their character.

This is true lol. Considering a large percentage of the population openly practices magic I'm not sure we should abide by the same magic superstitions as the real world did.

This is true for me as well. We have lots of different groups on the server who use the environment to Rp what they want to Rp. Don't get mad oocly at other groups because they don't conform to the same standards, that's how the environment gets toxic.

Well if they were somewhat wise, they wouldn't do it anyway because of those small groups, I mean, who the hell would want to risk being burnt just so they could give themselves an Edgy hair-colour?
