Well if they were somewhat wise, they wouldn't do it anyway because of those small groups, I mean, who the hell would want to risk being burnt just so they could give themselves an Edgy hair-colour?

Because those small groups are rare. That's like saying people shouldn't be openly gay today since there are small groups who will LITERALLY KILL THEM today. It's a rare thing, but do you wanna risk that? Go get yourself a wife, buddy.

Just no.

now I get that this server is high fantasy

'Nuff said.

If it bothers you this much, the entire server shouldn't change the way they RP and have been for however many years they've been on the server. I mean, yes, we are in the medieval times and technology was a lot different than it is today, but one, as you already said in the quote above ^ and we have /magic/. They didn't. We quite literally have magic capable of raising the dead, putting items into the void, and giving things magical properties. The thing about someone using a weapon as a wrench, I could see where that's an issue, but the part about suits, hats, needles, etc. I just don't think it's that much of a problem. Sorreh, wasn't trying to be harsh

'Go get yourself a wife, buddy.' Ok I'm 15 but w/e, but yeah, maybe not, but honestly there are some people on the server who don't even bother to stick to the Servers time period, If you want to have the Edgy hair I'm all for it but to have the Edgy hair and use tools and weapons that are just completely inaccurate and then to go out and use clothing that makes you stand out  completely, then that's where I have a problem..

I always was under the impression that if it wouldn't fit on Lord of the Rings (the fantasy style the server was founded on), it wouldn't fit on the server. Keeping a medieval fantasy environment is pretty important, and I don't want to see stuff like computers or phones on the server. I personally agree with much of the OP and find that keeping our canon and mythos consistent is critical to a good atmosphere. We don't have to be entirely low dark fantasy like Oren and each nation should bring a different flavor to the fantasy genre, but it should all be a sensible fantasy that meshes overall.

There is no server time period.

We've got 3 1/2 years of precedent, including official lore, that disagree.

When I said that, I wasn't telling YOU EXPLICITELY TO GET A WIFE.

I was saying that to gay people, in this hypothetical situation, so that they can cover up their - you know what I mean. Gay people won't do it, black people won't do it, religious people won't do it, anti religious wont' do it. No one should have to do it, so no one WILL do it. Unless they live in human lands, of course.

So if you don't like it, form a group and hunt people down like this. Create RP, not fix it with OOC nonsense.

Humans attempt to be set in 15th century medieval but haven't really been convincing since early Anthos. Dwarves are actually set someplace akin to the 19th century in terms of technology, metallurgy, ect. (Really dwarves would know a /lot/ more than they let on or actually RP out.) Orcs are set around the 15th century as well. Elves are above and beyond what I can really explain. Really their knowledge of medicine is on par with 20th century medicine, their knowledge, especially the high elves, is even greater, yet I would think rarely applied. Magic on LotC is a game changer, and really lets us do things that we, in modern times, won't be able to do for several hundred years probably. Warping time, creating elements, messing with peoples minds using your mind, healing miraculously, summoning beings of pure energy, ect.

On the subject of fedoras however, I would consider them not very modern and more of classy and fit into the theme. If I saw someone with a baseball cap however, I would just sort of stare. When you see someone doing something like that, don't ask yourself if it fits 15th century medieval, ask yourself if it fits the overall theme of the server.

(Further note, I actually find the server is most similar to World of Warcraft for all intents and purposes. And if you go and look at it, you will probably agree. I like what the other guy said up there though. When thinking about something being alright, comparing it to LotR would be useful. Remember though it needs to fit into the theme of the LotR, which really half the stuff we have I could easily see in LotR half the time, although it would be stylized so you would never notice.)

Why does everyone insist on WH40K levels of grimdarkness.

If some people don't want that, they don't want that. Forcing it on them is silly. Unless they're making steam boats and shite, I can't see an adaquate reason to disallow certain styles of clothes that aren't ultramodern. We have Orcs, we have Magic, we have spoopy ghosts. Suddenly, a suit and a hat.

LYNCH.

I agree that people should avoid modern looking clothes and try to fit the general theme, but not all of the server has the same gritty low-fantasy medieval GoT-Witcher mindset as the majority of the human playerbase. It's perfectly normal for elves to dye their hair, in fact it was part of the original wood elf lore. Being that nit-picky isn't going to accomplish anything but stressing yourself out.

The fact is that every one who plays here is bringing their own interpretation of 'fantasy' with them, and drawing from their favorite works in the genre. Some will prefer historical accuracy, others want Lord of the Rings, or DnD. It's inevitable that there would be many different flavors of RP with a server this large. Using modern slang, clothing, or technology shouldn't be allowed, of course, but that still leaves a lot of room for variety.

In the Elven lore, it was meant that they would dye their hair green (mostly wood elves), in order to feel closer to nature, or because it fit (woods and greenery and what not).

Not dye their hair into a rainbow, or white with black streaks like a zebra.

In the grim, dark, darkgrim grimdarkness of the Lotc Server... there is only war!

I don't remember it specifying green, and again, I don't think it matters. Don't have a conniption over how a character chooses to dye their hair.
