4.0 Map

Greetings LotCers! Hehehe. I'm insane. For the last two weeks, I spent my character's entire life savings on iron ingots and compasses to craft myself the biggest and most detailed map of Athera ever made. Version 1 of said map, encompassing the entirety of the mainland and Aesterwald, is now complete. I'm working on Version 2 of the map, which will include the corrupted lands to the west, the Abyss, and the mesas to the north and east. This might take me a few weeks to get out though, as I'm going to be moving the map's location. Character is moving Icly and it will take me a while to move this massive map. Once I get a room built for it and the map placed in item frames, I can finish up Version 2 and post it as well. From there, I'll continue to update it, take closer up screenshots upon request, probably post versions with nations and towns marked and whatnot, and generally just make lots of maps from this base map. I'll keep track of all the updates with a timestamp and leave all the images on this thread for you to enjoy and use for practical purposes. Without further ado, here is the map in all its (small amount) of glory!

 

Version 1 - Posted on February 5th, 2015:

 

This is the original version, and is probably going to be the worst rendition. Because of the circumstances, I had to quickly take these screenshots in a darkened underground dungeon area with poor lighting and it shows. It's not fantastic, but it's workable for the first version until I can get a better screenshot and stuff set up. Don't judge me I'm a good map maker.

 

There are two versions, one that just includes the mainland and Aesterwald, and one that includes the finished parts of the map + the parts of the map that I am working on for Version 2 but haven't finished yet.

As for races, this is actually a tough one. I've only ever played a human as my main character on LotC. His story began in Aegis and on the same continent he effectively ceased being a human so eh, I don't have too much experience playing normal characters of the various races for any extended period of time. I've played most races with temporary characters, and out of all of those I'd have to say my dwarf was probably the most fun. I could simply go around getting drunk and doing random stuff for fun and that was a lot of fun.

Pie, what originally drove you to make this map?

 

I used to be the Imperial Cartographer of Oren under Chumpchump, and during that time I made a map of Oren at the same scale as this one. I really liked making the map and we used that base screenshot map for so much afterwards, it was really useful. Since there are no actual maps of Athera that are updated, accurate, or detailed around, I thought I would make one. Unfortunately I didn't have the resources or the space to make one. Fast forwards a couple months and I come into the possession of Embermoor. Suddenly, I have a plot big enough to house this massive map and lots of resources to spend on it that I confiscated from inactive necromancers or people who left the server. So, I started work on this and kept going until I reached the end of version 1. Map making is just something I enjoy, maps are fun to look at and I like playing with them.

I was aware of LotC/part of the community since before Aegis was released, my first map was (shockingly), Aegis.
