Moot 1719 Share Posted April 4, 2015 So no doubt a lot of you have seen the recent list! Edit by Kowaman: The list contained usernames that hackers will try to bruteforce (crack the password). If your account is migrated, you will not be at risk. So #1 concern should be to migrate your account if you haven't, and assure you have a secure password. Welp, it's an unfortunate part of the internet, but tends to be those out seeking your information. For those of you unaware, there is a list of MC names (many of those being some of LotC players) which have been posted on some website, with the intent of being cracked, and hacked. I wouldn't be too alarmed, as this does happen from time to time. Also note, it was most likely done by someone random, who simply logged onto the server, and picked up the user names of those online. So if you're on the list, and worried- or simply worried in general, I suggest changing your password. Always remember to have a long password, with a mixture of lowercase and upper case letters, with symbols and numbers. This will ensure the least possible chance of someone hacking your account. A good example is: r@eLp7aYeR7489I hope this addresses some concerns! Edit: I'm also unsure if I want to start linking the site, as I'm unsure if it's safe or not. I'm sure you can find it in the status updates, or a friend. I don't suggests going on the site, simply change your password for peace of mind.
lawnmowerman 3040 Share Posted April 4, 2015 Is it possible to see this list anywhere? Simply wanna be aware if any of my alts are there. EDIT: Does it make a difference if your account is migrated? (As in you use an e--mail to log in?)
mmat 7460 Share Posted April 4, 2015 At the very least, people on the thread literally said something like "This is dumb, I'm not doing this."
Avacyn 1712 Share Posted April 4, 2015 the accounts were posted with the intention of being bruteforced and sold. bruteforcing is a rather simple method of hacking and functions in a way that is comparable to deductive reasoning: trying option after option until all others are eliminated and one works. thusly, a more complex password makes it much harder and near impossible to bruteforce. and if you're getting fishy error messages like "invalid session" change your password ASAP
Lita 677 Share Posted April 4, 2015 Technically speaking, symbols, numbers, and letters don't help nearly as much as a long password. For example, "I_really_hate_Minecraft_and_LoTC_Is_The_Only_Reason_I'm_Here" would probably never be broken.
monkeypoacher 8055 Share Posted April 4, 2015 Bruteforcing and selling minecraft accounts is a business, sadly. Use a lot of characters and numbers in your passwords friends! I have nothing new to say.

Supah 334 Share Posted April 4, 2015 If it makes anyone else feel any safer, if your minecraft account is migrated, it can not be cracked with simply a username. They'd need the email attached to the account to actually access it. Though, for more peace of mind, I would still suggest changing your password. mmat 7460 Share Posted April 4, 2015 Basically every letter you add to your password exponentially decreases their chance of bruteforcing in.
KarmaDelta 969 Share Posted April 4, 2015 I wouldnt recommend putting your actual password in or future ones, but check this site out: https://howsecureismypassword.net/ If you want to see how long it would roughly take to bruteforce a type of password you're looking for, go try it. For example, IAm2Sexy4MyShorts Would take around 23 trillion years. Also, the reason why I say not to put your actual password in, is because everything you type in there is recorded and put onto a client side document or something like that. Someone in my class found it out, so caution with that as I said.
Priceflash 832 Share Posted April 4, 2015 Entora the resident slightly knowledgeable hackerman here. If your account is migrated, they're not going to end up cracking it unless they have your email. If your account isn't migrated, you're still safe unless your password is relatively simple. Literally no reason to panic, you are all probably safe, I wouldn't go changing all of your passwords. I guarantee you if you've played Minecraft outside of LoTC you've probably been on a list like this before, either private or public. someone probably longed on as a ws and scraped usernames pm me the link to the list if you want yo
